One evening , cold December , my rain soaked blue jeans trapped under ice floes , I lost my head . I found love .
Since October, I've been enjoying the first single from Matt Costa's upcoming album, Unfamiliar Faces (see previous post ), to be released January 15. "Mr. Pitiful" sees Matt Costa shifting from the guitar-based folk music of Songs We Sing to piano pop; whether the rest of Unfamiliar Faces will share in this change is yet to be seen. Though the song is a well-orchestrated piece of pop, it lacks the subtlety of even the weaker tracks on Costa's debut. With songs ranging from "Astair" to "Yellow Taxi" to "Cold December," [...]

In case you needed another reason to go out and see Modest Mouse touring for their latest album We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank , here's another. After touring like crazy for his last album, Songs We Sing , all over the country as well as at nearly every music fest worth its price of admission the last few years (including Coachella, Lollapalooza, Sasquatch, Bonnaroo, and Austin City Limits) Matt Costa will be opening for them on a couple upcoming select dates. Check below to see if you're lucky enough [...]
Every ones favorite British sardonic rock band teams up with every ones favorite Brooklyn-based bar band to create a night of rockin' debauchery throughout the US. After a slew of US dates this September, Art Brut barely have time to rest and will set out across America with The Hold Steady on NME's "Rock 'N' Roll Riot Tour 2007". ---AND--- The release of Matt Costa's second album, Unfamiliar Faces , has been changed to January 15, 2008, which will be supported by a headlining tour early in the year. This week I am in two weddings: my best friend's, and my brother's. It has me in a rather festive mood, and I'm quite happy for them (and their brides), so to celebrate, I made a list of great wedding songs. If you are at the reception, you might get to hear some of them. Alexi Murdoch - All My Days Bright Eyes - First Day Of My Life The Beatles - In My Life Jack Johnson - Do You Remember [...]

I avoided putting up one in June when everyone else did - Mars Needs Guitars put up my favorites here and here . Here it goes: Taking Back Sunday - You're So Last Summer Matt Costa - Sunshine The Positions - Summer Nights (download or die) The Little Ones - High on a Hill Belle and Sebastian - I'm a Cuckoo (Avalanches remix) [...]

It finally cooled off enough today for me to go out for a run just as it was getting dark tonight (almost 9pm, I love the long summer days). There was a humidity in the air, and as I ran facing west, towards the mountains and Pikes Peak, the sky was flaming orange and lightning was crackling electric all around me. Kinda scary, but also very cool. I had my iPod on shuffle and three great songs came up in a row that struck me as being perfect for my [...]
We're cleaning out the vault! Matt Costa is a laid back guy who doesn't take anything for granted. Should have some performances up from Cold War Kids, the Go! Team, and Split Lip Rayfield in the next couple of weeks. Matt Costa-"Cold December" Live (from Oct. 2006 at the Bottleneck) MP3: Matt Costa-Sweet Rose mp3 Buy Songs We Sing Matt Costa [myspace]

Don't you love it when a band you really dig puts out a disc behind your back? When I came across the new Mofro record yesterday, my first reaction was to feel like a teat for not knowing about it. Loved their first two records, but I guess it's just not one of those bands I make a point to track religiously. Sort of like Jon Secada. Anyway, I bought Country Ghetto immediately upon contact. For those unfamiliar with Mofro—or JJ Grey And Mofro, as this release is billed—they are a [...]
Can anyone argue that getting told 'I love you' feels better than anything in the world? Maybe coming in a close second would be a warm embrace, but words, specifically those words, are magical. And songs with those words are even more magical. So here are some of L.A.'s best heartbreakers for those with or without a hand to hold... We love you. Lavender Diamond - "You Broke My Heart" (MP3)

I'm still not sure why I titled this mix "fix me now" although maybe at the time I was working on this slice of music it was a cry for help. I've been dealing with a lot lately. I think that's all that needs to be vomited here. So below is the mix. Bowing to popular opinion I have decided to upload the mix as a single file download. The individual songs are still available here, but if you want to just snag them all at one time I've supplied [...]

Short and sweet. Catchy chorus. Nice vocal harmonies. Good message. Lot to love about this tune. (And maybe a sun will shine on me and ezarchive’s relationship and the link will work!?!) This is it, folks. The last half of the Festival. You made it this far. Keep it going. So many big names, so little time. Starting off the second half of the day is Philadelphia's own Ween . Unique is an understatement when it comes to their sound. Witty, outlandish, funny, but always musical, they perform to the crowd. I saw them the last time through and I was completely entertained. Across the field is the Hassidic Jew with the reggae flow, Matisyahu . If you have heard anything off of [...]

I really like Matt Costa. He's talented, witty and really not out to piss anyone off. He's a happy guy making happy music, and that's something that's in short supply these days. If you're one of the few who haven't heard his album, Songs We Sing , (which is on the equally loveable Brushfire Records) I would go out and get it. If you haven't heard the California kid, this post is for you because you really need to hear his stuff. If you're a huge fan, this post is also for people [...]
As Lollapalooza quickly approaches, these posts will be coming more frequently. Here are a few more from some of the artists that will be playing this year's festival. Lots of good stuff including the Chili Peppers covering The Ramones, The Subways covering TV On The Radio, and even a new Cursive song. I'm not happy about having to miss their set early on Friday, but I've seen them before so I guess I'll live. Oh yeah, Towers Of London aren't playing. MP3 | [...]
No pictures with this one, sorry. I'm on my work computer, which is so finicky these days. Do some searches if you're like me and love to have an image in mind of the person singing out of your speakers. There's a very particular theme between these three guys, but I'm not going to say what it is. Not that anyone will be able to guess, it's so specific and only applies to me. Mysterrrrrrry. (All songs are direct links to the mp3.) Don't Walk [...]
