I first heard singer-songwriter Matt Wertz in 2003 when I was entering high school and exploring new kinds of music for the first time in my life. Until then, my tape and cd collection consisted mainly of the mainstream artists that were currently dominating the television and radio charts; and so upon hearing Wertz's music, my fascination with independent artists was born. Suddenly, I was interested in finding out more about the talented musicians that, in my opinion, deserved as much attention as the popular bands that were quickly rising to fame. [...]

Matt Wertz is a singer/songwriter. Originally from Liberty, Missouri he now calls Nashville, Tennessee, home. Wertz's interest in music started when he was young, but it was his interest in visual art that led him to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he graduated with a degree in Industrial Design. It was while he was living in the dorms that his musical talents and ambitions grew. Upon graduation, Wertz gained a considerable fan base by performing at Young Life camps, after releasing "Somedays", his first album, produced by Steve Wilson. His next two studio albums, and [...]

Here at Carry You Away, we like mixes. Now that I have a car with a CD player, I really like putting together a collection of songs to fit a particular driving style or mood that I find myself in, and go from there. Recently, I got to thinking about movie soundtracks and how a lot of the hipster, indie films often have this sort of attitude - a mix-tape is generally just as good when it comes to a film. [...]

Well kiddos, this weekend I'll be in Lubbock watching the totally awesome Texas A&M Aggies play the perennially douchy Texas Tech Red Raiders, but I'm pretty sure stuff will still happen in Dallas when I'm gone. We of course made it out to see Lykke Li last night at the Granada, which was excellent ( Ed's Note : I wrote this yesterday before the concert, and she was way better than I expected - absolutely outstanding ), but that's the PAST. I focus on the FUTURE here. Zow. Find the events for this weekend after the jump. [...]

Welcome to another edition of my Friday Mixtape. After weeks of late postings, screwed up links, and errors that cause posts to disappear (last week), I'm hoping that this week's mixtape goes up as scheduled, without any hitches. If, in fact, you're reading this on Friday- I've suceeded. While I've been relatively unimpressed with the mixtapes this year so far, I'm well pleased with this one. There 's the track from AG Silver that was sent this week, and I'm totally diggin' on. There's also an awesome new colab between Switchfoot frontman Jon Foreman and Nickel Creek guitarist [...]
I love South Park. President-elect Barack Obama can now simply be called President Obama. Because he was inaugurated today. Bye bye Bushie! Living in Baltimore, I was kept awake the night of Election Day by swarms of black people dancing in the streets, honking their horns, yelling at the tops of their lungs little ditties like, "ANYTHING IS POSSIBLEEEEE" or more famously "YES WE CANNN!!!" In celebration of that momentous occasion as well as the official inauguration of our God-send, President Barack Obama, I have created my Yes I Can! Mix. Enjoy! [...]

Singer/ songwriter Matt Wertz (a recent major-label signee after about eight years working the independent circuit) taps into the place in our hearts that will always appreciate the unapologetically cheesy, yet still lovable R&B-lite entries of Hall & Oates or The Bee Gees on "Summer Sun", a recall of sunny seasons past smothered in '70's-era soft-rock warm-and-fuzziness. Sounding like the

Matt Wertz is from Liberty, Missouri, but has called Nashville, Tennessee, home for the last seven years. It seems fitting that he would be writing his own biography on the cusp of his first major label release, just as he did eight years ago before releasing his first independent album. This time, though, he's not trying to play it off like he didn't write it. Matt goes on to say "The record that will be released on Universal Republic is called " Under Summer Sun " and it is a combination of my favorite [...]

Matt Wertz has been bouncing around the independent scene for eight years, churning out catchy acoustic pop and blue-eyed soul. His well-earned major label debut, Under the Summer Sun, is set for a 9.16 release, but its too bad they...
