Temperature, precipitation, personal hygiene: these things mean little to the seasoned festival goer. Walking in through the gates of Sasquatch this year, I simultaneously felt nostalgia and excitement (with a hint of nausea as a particularly ripe gentleman blew past me screaming Bloody Mary) knowing that the world of large scale festivals in an enigma, shrouded in furry animal suits, just waiting to shock the feint of heart. The drive down from Vancouver to The Gorge Amphitheatre is one that, although prepared for by the onslaught of news stories the previous night, nearly took the wind out of [...]
If Sasquatch 2013 in Quincy, WA will be your first entry into your festival diary, you've made a grave error. Everyone knows you have to start with a feeble local festival, boasting maybe one act you've heard of and where the ticket price is a whopping zero dollars. A festival where ultimately you'll walk away with an unaffected attitude and a feeling of time wasted. By ignoring this rite of passage, you've ultimately set your standards too high and only a select handful of festivals will ever be able to match up. Essentially you're now experiencing what [...]

Stefan Kozalla, aka DJ Koze , is staple to the german club scene and one of the most underrated producers. Known for his hip hop skills, as well as house and disco, Koze brings something on the more minimal side showing us the genre boundaries don't scare him whatsoever. Mixing together a weird concotion of what sounds like Willy Wonka, Alice in Wonderland, And Nicolas Jaar, DJ Koze creates a psychedelic soundscape. Bringing on Matthew Dear , who is known for his unorthodox production style and Dj sets, they create an auditory lucid dream with a [...]
After experimenting with three formats for the Monthly Mix - MP3 zip, Spotify playlist, Soundcloud set, etc. - in March we finally came upon a solution that pleased everyone: all of them. And so, for you, here is the month's music, whittled down to its very best, via each of the aforementioned mediums, limited only by its availability on said mediums. This means a 13-track zip, a 12-track Spotify playlist, and a whopping 54-track Soundcloud stream. And somehow, falling through all the cracks and not represented on any is one of the month's finest: The National's straight-to-Youtube " [...]

★★★★☆ Koze through the looking glass is a reading of bedtime stories for cosmic disco romantics. A follower of its own path and bringing an enchantment honored by the album cover's mediaeval superhero impersonation, its light-fingered grip holds firm throughout. Heavy is the path less travelled, winding up like clockwork until the springs go loco when it does, with sighing vocals indicative of the reassurances Koze consistently offers. Deep house settlers keep things simple, working a little heartening charm that lets you reach your own woozy highs and joys, whether by long unbroken background [...]

Lord RAJA – Panthera Bengal We are always very happy to see an underground artist get noticed by a huge label. This bears especially true for Lord RAJA aka 21 year old New York producer Chester Raj Anand. His experimental & dreamy beats must have struck a chord with Matthew Dear as his debut EP, Rubies , is out now via Ghostly International. We first heard his music a few months ago and although we’d expect his sound to be released on a label like Brainfeeder, the more we listen to the EP, the [...]

Reading music blogs is an absolute must for anyone who likes to discover new music for their collections, but you knew that already. Today we deliver an artist that we discovered on the award-winning music blog, Crack In The Road . They are a collaborative music discovery service that stormed the music blogging scene in the UK like a freshly painted steam train back in 2010. Founder Josh and the gang have also just confirmed that they'll be sharing a showcase with The Recommender, My Band's Better Than Your Band and Killing Moon , hosting a [...]

Making a truly timeless record is really, really hard. Without the ability to look into the future and see what sounds and styles are going to fall out of fashion, artists often just have to take the gamble and see what happens. With all the knowledge and ability you have as an artist, you need to take a snapshot of the current that won't age even when viewed by an unfamiliar audience. The resulting roller coaster is an odd "win some lose some". It's the difference between Michael Jackson's Thriller and Bad , despite the fact that [...]

DJ Koze - Amygdala Pampa: 2013 With the world of "EDM" blowing up, it can become difficult to differentiate between what is good and bad electronic music if you're not careful. Dance musicians continue to up the ante with volume rather than innovation in instrumentation, leading to a world of cluttered, overblown beats. But as the popularity of mainstream EDM takes over, there is a handful of producers working to keep the reputation of house and techno in tact. One of those producers is Stefan Kozella, an artist who has continuously experimented [...]

By Stef Siepel March 15, 2013 The Weekly Froth! A weekly take on six tracks, most of which have recently popped up somewhere in the blogosphere. Bit of a mixed bag with a slight leaning towards house, disco, and remixes, but generally just anything that for some reason tickled the writer’s fancy. Track of the week: ‘Call Girl’ by The Right Now ( Dicky Trisco version ) Also [...]

What you know about DJ Koze? Destroying our understanding of what’s good and right in the world, DJ Koze debuted another single filled with worldly beats that pairs erratic bouts of freedom with meticulously managed restraint off his Amygdala LP which drops next week. There are producers who do great work melding beats and pieces into melodies and progressions, but then there are those who push sounds even further, breaking down preconceived notions of what we will allow ourselves to think and feel, progressing music forward and essentially creating a [...]

DJ Koze sekiz yıllık aradan sonra bu ay sonu çıkaracağı Amygdala albümünden ikinci olarak Matthew Dear'ın vokallerde olduÄŸu My Plans adlı parçasını tanıttı.
