Matthew Dear - Elementary Lover I'm not the only person to big up Prins Thomas' Resident Advisor mix (check out DC friends The Nearest Faraway Place and Talking in Stereo ) and that's hardly surprising cos it's blummen great. Listen closely and you'll hear hundreds of munted Canadians going bonkers as testament to its quality. The first half hour or so of deep, dubbed out strangeness is just the sort of thing that would really get my juices going on a night out. I thought I'd post Matthew [...]
You And Me Baby We're Nothing But Tappers So Let's Gchat Like They Do On The Discovery Channel by Alex Carnevale Sometimes I accidentally say things that I don't mean. Fortunately they usually come on gchat with Danish. For example, today I said, Suppose we found that a form of genius was also caused by a virus. Would that mean that genius is a disease? Danish responded, Now you know why I used the other bathroom [...]

It's an electronica overload this week, as label mates Matthew Dear and Mobius Band bring their sampled sounds to the area and mix it in with a full band. Both have new releases (Mobius Band's out Tuesday!), so expect a mix of old and new. 10/2: Johnny Brendas , Philly 10/4: Rock and Roll Hotel , DC Matthew Dear - Don and Sherri Mobius Band - Hallie

I am pleased to announce that we will be hosting another ticket giveaway. It is featuring an electronic artist who nearly defines artistic consistency. The winner will receive two tickets to the Matthew Dear show on Thursday, October 4th , at the Rock 'n Roll Hotel in Washington D.C. ; the opening act is the entertaining Mobius Band. I wrote a lengthy feature on the electronic whiz back in April when Dear released the first single, "Deserter", to his exceptional new album, Asa Breed . Since then, [...]

It's my birthday today, huzzah! So to celebrate, here is a mix I made recently which clocks in at 59 minutes. Give it a spin. If you're signed up to the podcast, the mix will download automatically. Let me know what you think anyhoo. I'm taking the rest of the internet day off in preparation for Hard Working Class Heroes and El-P this weekend. A new album that just came into my hands from our friends at Inertia is Matthew Dear 's third solo album Asa Breed. Truth be told I had no idea who Matthew Dear was when I grabbed the CD as it came under the genre electronic on the press release which always catches my attention. I like to have my recently added playlist on shuffle most of the time at home and when the first song of his started playing it immediately caught my ear. I took the player off shuffle and listened to the rest of [...]

A good description of Asa Breed is techno/electro with soul. I can't take credit for that description, but it was one that resonated with me. I've mentioned my enjoyment of Matthew Dear's new album a couple times, but haven't really given it the time it deserves. Dear's layers of synth and noise give the songs deep texture and combined with Dear's baritone vocals, it all blends into a very enjoyable experience. It seems electro and techno have evolved in more frantic and worldly directions, [...]

(Matthew Dear credit , Four Tet credit ) Ah. More concrete proof that Four Tet is the official King Midas of indie rock instrumental-crazy remixes. Enjoy kiddos. (mp3) Deserter (Four Tet remix) Godspeed!

Fresh off their contribution to Stereogum's OK Computer Tribute , the Brooklyn trio Mobius Band has signed with the San Francisco label Misra Records , will release a new record on October 2nd and will tour with Bishop Allen and Matthew Dear. The new record is entitled Heaven and is the band's second full-length release, following their 2005 release The Loving Sounds of Static which was released by Ghostly [...]

Sometimes I'm too busy to give music the attention it deserves. So with that in mind here's a roundup of some albums I've been enjoying over the last month. Matthew Dear - Asa Breed Certainly not something I would usually jump at, but the reviews got me interested. Asa Breed is a wonderful electronic dance pop album full of spectral dance music with a house feel. It has also spawned one of my songs of the year so far in "Deserter" - sort of a moody texture-rich companion to LCD Soundsystem's "All my Friends" [...]
If you listened to our latest Podcast (and I highly recommend you do!), you will have heard the excellent original of "Deserter". We also mentioned we hadn't heard the Four Tet remix yet. Well now obviously we have and it's a cracker. I prefer the instrumental remix as it's not hampered by Dear's grouchy vocals allowing Hebden to turn the original's dark atmospheric night-time mood into a enlivened mischievous summer evening. Asa Breed meanwhile gets better with every listen. Matthew Dear - Deserter [...]
Matthew Dear just released a quirky little electropop record called Asa Breed. While I don't believe it's the second coming of pop as some critics have claimed, it's certainly a tasty (if slight) record, well worth checking out. Matthew Dear...

Matthew Dear has been babysitting me for the past weeks. The shitty Berlin winter weather had me suffering from SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) and I thought that would all end with the arrival of summer. Wrong. It rains everyday. Some of you are like, "yeah, whatever you're just exaggerating". It rains EVERYDAY. Even if it is a drizzle it lasts for about 20 minutes and sometimes you get two of those a day. Then sometimes it just wilds out and ice is falling from the sky - in May! Matthew Dear has been getting me through these rainy days, by [...]
I really don't, not really into holiday's in general, don't know why. (I feel like I should be working today.) However, thought I would share some tunes that I've got lying around. To be honest, i don't know where half of these came from. They are just sitting in a folder on my computer, in no particular order, very haphazard. Eeek! Some are quite appropriate for today. (Again, if you celebrate these types of things.) Download Etienne De Crecy Download Bismarke - Bunker Download Electroheadz - That's Hot [...]

Before your days of D.A.N.C.E. there were Swedish electropop cries of W.E.E.K.E.N.D. Start your weekend off with a smile. Komatrohn - W.E.E.K.E.N.D.
