Just a few months ago Max Justus released his full length Mercy. On his new ep entitled Signs & Wonders Max keeps moving farther and farther away from the original beat making and to continue darker sound. The light peaking through at the end of the tunnel though is the addition of Max's vocals on all the songs. Tracks like Flesh and Doa are the stand out's and engage the listener with thoughtful lyrics. Pick up the new ep on Itunes.

You guys, we've been talking about how great the singer, songwriter, programmer, multi-instrumentalist, etc. Max Justus is for God knows how long (OK, God said over two years now, so there) and today we get a bleeping, blooping, crunching and blipping new song from him called "Flesh", off of the upcoming four-song EP Signs & Wonders , and boy are we super excited by both the song and what's to come on the EP. First off, Justus is employing more help on Signs & Wonders , with other musicians lending their skills and Justus [...]
Over the last few years Max Justus has been cooking up his own brand of dance and electronic grooves for Kansas City's The Record Machine label. His latest album Mercy is his third for them. While Mercy still finds Max expanding his signature grooves and brooding electronic tones it focuses more on vocal approach and songwriting. Max's last few albums have been primarily instrumental affairs while Mercy finds him lending his voice to bolster his compositions. Mercy still retains a few pop gems and dance hall grooves but the overall tone of the album is more dark and foreboding then [...]

Goosebumps. The 1984 demo turned 1986 Billboard Top 10 hit and power ballad standard that literally launched and finished the singing career of the late Patrick Swayze during the Dirty Dancing years, the simple synths and drum machine and vocal cover version here, from Max Justus (honestly this makes PERFECT sense if you think about [...]

I hate doing this. Rounding up the year's best local releases only makes me think of failure. Not failure on the part of any artist, mind you -- well, not usually -- but rather failure on my part... Continue reading "Harper's Neurotic Local Top 20 and Whatever, Don't Get Excited" >

I'm long over due for a Remix Rehash but its been slow on the receiving end for quality material. However, there has been a but of really enjoyable electro music to be had so this remix rehash is more electro than remix but, regardless, I hope you enjoy! Apple Jelly - Kissy Sell Out This track is pure fun. Kissy brings out play in its full glory. Building from a base that is strictly 80's sitcom montage score he pops [...]

The latest post from the Treasure Trove comes to us from Wisconsin... Since age fifteen Max Justus has been working on various projects in his hometown of Madison, Wisconsin when he released his first album and opening for illustrious artists Tortoise, Daniel Lanios (solo artist and producer of bands ranging from U2 to Bob Dylan), and Bob Mould of Husker Du. At nineteen he moved to Kansas City, Missouri where he now resides completing two albums, Ophelia and Talk to Strangers , which are only available digitally on Myspace. At [...]

We don't normally delve into the world of electronica around here (except for the occasional random song ), but I'm really digging the stuff this guy is doing. His name is Max Justus and he's . . . he's . . . See, this is why we don't cover electronica - I don't know how to desribe this shit (note to all the bands and labels that send me remixes: I hope you're paying attention). Funky? Groovy? Electronicalicous? I don't even know if I'm supposed to call this electronica. Can I just call it dance music? [...]

Photo by Culture of Me. Max and I have just returned from the whirlwind time in NYC. Max played 3 fabulous shows and we had blast. Check out the Culture of Me for some photos and nice little write up. We want to thank everyone who came out to the shows and big hugs and kisses to Mushpot for helping set up everything. I already miss being in the city.

The first rule of show and tell is that the second you're ready to show someone something that you've been talking about it NEVER works. That is essentially the story of today. If you remember yesterday, I went on about consistency and how I was going to do three posts this weekend. Well as fate would have it I woke up to absolutely NO Internet connectivity! This obviously made it difficult to uphold my promise. While I was frustrated I couldn't help but laugh. So here were are late Saturday night, with a post that should have been [...]

Instrumentals that screech and bleep and bop, Max Justus has always caught us in the best way possible, mashing together subtle emotion and an apparent tenderness with his array of laptop blips and upfront geekery. And this week he's finally...
