First up on our schedule for Saturday was the Walk the Moon, hailing from Cincinnati, Ohio, on the Music Unlimited stage. Maybe it's our Midwestern connection, but we love these kids, and judging by the crowd-induced sing-a-longs, (many also showed up with their faces already painted, a nod to the band's habit of doing so,) we aren't the only ones. Several members from the crazed crowd battled through the barriers to get closer to Death From Above 1979, during their seriously BONKERS set on the Bud Light stage. [...]
World famous music festival, Lollapalooza celebrated it's 20th anniversary in Chicago's Grant Park and with style. It was my first one ever and I will definitely be returning again next year. With 125+ acts performing in the span of three full days, it was impossible see them all. However, the amount of awesome DJ's, rappers, bands, [...]

Photo by Craig Yunger In the past, Australia's own Empire of the Sun has had its share of bad luck, what with canceled shows and keeping members on board . But after finally making their U.S. debut last August , suffice it to say, things have remained pretty positive. Keeping that good fortune going, the synthpop sensation from Down Under will return stateside later this fall. Following a couple festival dates in early August, EOTS will arrive in America on September 8th for a seven-date run, including gigs at [...]

In honoring the late electronic music pioneer Dr. Robert Moog, I will admit that I've never pronounced his name correctly and will hereafter pronounce it properly (rhymes with "vogue"). It will be relatively miniscule gesture compared to MoogFest, a unique and growing festival honoring the doc's vast contributions to the modern musical landscape. After a strong debut at its new location in Asheville, NC last year, MoogFest 2011 boasts a diverse lineup filled with exclusive performances and exciting acts from all walks of genres. Leading the festival this year are The Flaming [...]

Earlier this year Deer Tick released their third full-length record The Black Dirt Sessions , an intimate and personal album thanks in part of lead singer John McCauley's extremely confessional lyrics. McCauley will now get a chance to showcase those tunes in a different setting from Deer Tick's usual rowdy and raucous shows, as he has scheduled an eight-date acoustic tour. McCauley will be joined by his band mate Ian O'Neil on guitar and vocals for a string [...]

Mayer Hawthorne I continue to underestimate the size of fan bases for certain artists I see in concert nowadays. I had already seen Mayer at Outside Lands this year to a screaming and obsessive crowd but I wasn't sure on the magnitude of that crowd. Well they sold out Bimbo's 365 and some even sported the same wardrobe as the man of the hour (one kid looked exactly like him with the Buddy Holly glasses, three-piece suit, and pale skin). But with one album out and a second long in the works, would the crowd eat it up? [...]

In 2003 power-pop act Fountains Of Wayne became household names behind their seemingly ubiquitous hit Stacy's Mom from their highly recommended album Welcome Interstate Managers . The New York-based quartet, whose last release came out in 2007, will hit the road this fall as a way of road testing new material for their next studio effort which will hit stores early next year. The band's short ten-date tour will hit markets on both coasts including a high profile appearance at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival and a hometown gig at Bowery Ballroom on Oct. 7. [...]

After an astonishing breakout in 2009, falsetto throwback crooner Mayer Hawthorne is set to embark on a national tour with backing band The County kicking off October 3, 2010 in Fort Lauderdale through November 12, 2010 in Los Angeles. Through Mazda's partnership of the tour, fans will be granted an up-close look at tour life by means of daily, personal blog posts that captivate audiences with downloadable content including the previously unreleased track "No Strings". Most importantly, Mayer's fans will have an unparalleled opportunity to connect [...]

Mouthful Of Diamonds (Michna Remix) by Michna North Coast Musical Festival was a freakin blast! I wasn't sure I would love it, but oh yes, I did. There was dancing and disco and crazy costumes, and hippie kids, and good, old fashioned bluesy rock, and some out of this world amazing music! I took my camera and played photographer for the weekend and that was interesting . I had little to no idea what I was doing, mostly I tried to stay out [...]

No matter your thoughts on the lineup you have to admire the ambition of the North Coast Music Festival . Holding a late-summer festival at Union Park, after artists and fans have already been picked over by established behemoths Lollapalooza and Pitchfork, not to mention the countless local street fests, seemed to be a recipe for disaster. But thanks to some unique booking and one of the most pervasive ad campaigns I've ever seen for a festival, they did pull it off, apparently selling 40,000 tickets. Oddly, part of the festival's success may be related to [...]

The second and final day of Outside Lands was a pretty successful music-filled day for me and my crew. I saw some seriously great music, ate some great food, enjoyed some $8 Newcastles, and generally left completely primed for the Worship My Organ face-melt that was planned for the late-night show at the Boom Boom Room. Mission accomplished. The festival was solid, though. We came away with tons of memories and a bit more energy compared to the two previous years when the festival was spread out amongst three different days. The [...]

This was the easiest festival to attend in the history of attending festivals. The glory that is Outside Lands , the Bay Area's biggest, finest, and currently most hip summer festival could not have been a more accessible festival to attend. Between the closeness of all the stages (four major ones total), the variety of bands (in one afternoon I saw a metal-head DJ, famous hippies, indie icons, and classic rock 'n' roll), the layout of the grounds (I could have walked through blindfolded), and the fact you left each night [...]

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v =RAxBdYM8opg Good for Mayer Hawthorne .The guy pays his dues for a decade in Ann Arbor anonymity, DJ'ing for Buff 1, under the ill-sculpted name Haircut, and generally living a life of underground indigence. Then one day, Peanut Butter Wolf discovers he has a golden throated falsetto and convinces him to record an album steeped in classic 60s soul a la Daptone. The next thing you know, he is Snoop Dogg's favorite white boy and he is cavorting in idyllic California sunshine with the hottest girls in Silverlake. Granted, they may be from [...]
