New lyric video for Mayer Hawthorne's "Her Favorite Song," from the upcoming Where Does This Door Go album. iTunes: Her Favorite Song - Mayer Hawthorne

‘Her Favorite Song’ is the first single from the upcoming album from MAYER HAWTHORNE , to be released on July 16. The thick guitar riff immediately allows this track to become a funk anthem. Vocals from HAWTHORNE mirror a PHARRELL esque quality that you can’t help but drift away to. As soon as JESSIE WARE ’s vocals hit the airwaves, the tune transforms from a masculine bass filled track to a shimmering duet. WARE has been dazzling listeners for a while now, including her glittering performances on [...]

A few weeks back Mayer Hawthorne , one of 200 Words favourite soul singers, released Designer Drug , an uplifting and cute tune with impressive production that sounded like nothing Hawthorne had done before. On his first album the production was simple and old-fashioned - in a good way - , the arrangements were beautiful and Hawthorne’s voice fitted on top of that beautifully, his second album was more of a straight-forward 2011 blue-eyed soul album and didn’t manage to impress me. Now the soul singer has grown a beard and [...]

Hello everyone! The photo above is a crane I saw at Canary Wharf in London. ( download the high res version ) Not sure why I picked it today, it just felt right. Things have been a mess around here lately because @DorothyJS and I have been travelling so much. So my apologies for the weak performance. Sometimes work, travel, and having fun get in the way of running this website. Back in the day when only a few of you we're listening it didn't matter. But now that there are thousands of people listening each [...]

Mayer Hawthorne's new album Where Does This Door Go comes out July 16 via Republic . The album's first single is a soulful affair that features Jessie Ware on vocals. It's a perfect combination that creates a smooth song that is easy listening perfect for the spring.

Soul-pop crooner Mayer Hawthorne looks to have taken a step in a slightly more contemporary direction of late, if this dish is anything to go by. 'Her Favorite Song', which features Jessie Ware laying down some rather undecipherable (but lovely) vocals, retains his jazz edge albeit with a 21st century production, and that familiar high-pitched vocal still feels as soothing as an ice pack on a hot sunny day.

Retro-soul man Mayer Hawthorne is set to release a LP coming this July titled Where Does This Door Go? Here's the first single from that album, "Her Favorite Song" featuring none other than Jessie Ware , who is one of my favorites from the UK right now. This soul/funk/bossa nova influenced track is quite smooth, as Hawthorne croons about a lonely lady making her escape with her 'favorite song'. That lonely girl would be played by Ms. Ware, who says very little words on this track - but in this case, less is more! Have a [...]

It's been a while since we have written about Mayer Hawthrone . The Ann Arbor native is making waves with a new album, 'Where Does This Door Go,' which will be released July 16th. The album will feature co-production by Pharrell Williams, Greg Wells, Jack Splash, John Hill and Oak (of Oak & Pop). Hawthorne's lead single features a fellow retro singer and UK artist, Jessie Ware and it is a joyful/funky track that will have you humming along.

- Frequenze News - Mayer Hawthorne Her Favorite Song (feat. Jessie Ware) Fa bene Mayer ad intitolarla così. Perchè è uno di quei brani che messi a movimentare i primi attimi di una pista da ballo può provocare un grosso ondeggiamento di pubblico femminile. Parte come [...]

Mayer Hawthorne is going next level on his new LP, Where Does This Door Go , out July 16th via Republic . He enlisted production assistance from the likes of Pharrell Williams, Greg Wells, Jack Splash, among others. Hawthorne described the LP as "Steely Dan meets the Beastie Boys" and “a journey into the unknown." Sounds intriguing, right? The first single, "Her Favorite Song," enlists the help of Jessie Ware and was produced by Oak of Oak & Pop. Listen below.

Mayer Hawthorne looks to impress with his upcoming third album Where Does This Door Go . He's pulled Pharrell Williams in on album production, and now the album's lead single features vocals from the ever-soulful Jessie Ware . Titled "Her Favorite Song," the single is a funky, charming tale of overcoming troubles, with Ware's harmonies adding sensuous nuance throughout. Hawthorne impresses indeed. Check it out below. Where Does This Door Go is out on July 16th.

Photo by Brittney Bollay The Dodos have announced a new album, Carrier, which will be out on August 27th, and they've shared "Confidence" from that album. Carrier follows the loss of guitarist Christopher Reimer , who joined The Dodos in 2011. Singer Meric Long revealed that Reimer was a big musical influence for him, “seeing how he could transform and shape sound with an electric guitar inspired me to explore more tones and use those tones to begin writing a song.” [ Pitchfork ] [...]

Unless you're a dedicated soul connoisseur , you probably only know Mayer Hawthorne from his feat. on Sebastian's brilliant 'Love In Motion' back in 2011. Well, this guy and his smooth voice have been around for a while, with three albums to his name and a string of guest appearance and production credits to boot. Although we haven't really covered Hawthorne's music before, seeing Jessie Ware's name (we know you've heard of her) got our ears pricked, as the Mercury Award nominated songstress has a pretty great track record when it comes to collaborations. The pair have worked together on [...]

"Her Favorite Song" makes sense. All the pieces are there. It's a bit of updated soul complete with a catchy chorus, guest vocals from one of the hottest/most talented artists out, production by Oak of Pop & Oak (Drake, Nicki Minaj, Britney Spears, Chris Brown), and even a sassy and repetitive "shake it" section of the song [...]
