Fine Steps - "Tomorrow For All Of Today" Sacramento, the criminally-under-the-radar home for a bunch of talented bands, has done it again with Fine Steps , a band led by former Mayyors drummer Julian Elorduy, joined by Ganglians' Alex Soles and Kyle Hoover. This is some very un-Mayyors stuff, but, that being said, "Tomorrow for All of Today" is some excellent jangle-pop. The band's Bandcamp page says this song is from the Boy's Co. LP, out in 2012. This lineup for this next show is equally exciting, featuring the always-excellent Ty Segall and the final Bay Area performance by Sacramento's Mayyors . So kick off your Labor Day weekend with us by heading back to the bowling alley for another awesome night of punk rock [...]

In what promises to be the loudest thing happening on Thursday night, Ty Segall is playing a show with some of SF and Sacto's best known punk rockers. Francis Harold & the Holograms hide who they are and where they come from but L.A. RECORD still ran into them at Vinyl Solution. They sound like hellrock in hell with Debris, Crime, Flipper and the Electric Eels. They brought their own blood to a later photo shoot, but ended up using the L.A. RECORD stock blood instead. This interview by Janet Housden.

Well it appears that 2009 is about to come to a close and in preparation I've spent a portion of my time this weekend putting together that inevitable task of a year end list. After looking through it a couple times now, I feel like this was a pretty strong year for releases and it seems like a fitting list to cap off a decade or to kick off the fourth year of BOAWS. Either way, I hope everyone enjoys the list and possibly finds some more music to listen to along the way. However, to start [...]

here's what you missed during my frequent dissapearances down the rabbit hole... mayyors : deads obscuro-release ultra stomp somewhere betwixt hospitals, coachwhips and the amrep roster of yore. ten quid for ten minutes of music? you fucking betcha. ace! y'll need to google for a distro though. and they don't do the internets. collider : down in saturines in haste (and in no way meant in the pejorative) think porcupine [...]

Can you say internet buzz? Yes, these dudes have it. Now, can you say, holy mother of the most heavenly scuzz? Oh, f*ck yes. Fans of The Jesus Lizard, The Melvins, Clockcleaner, Pissed Jeans, and all things scuzz and fuzz, meet your new favorite band. They're Mayyors and they're from Sacramento and they're about to unleash some of the most primal scuzz your ears have heard in years. Unfortunately, for you, you're going to have a hard time meeting Mayyors, in the internet sense. They have no web presence and no available releases. [...]

Sacramento's Mayyors sling out a 12" full of brutality and then run it over with a car just because the love you. Mayyors – Deads 12" Last year saw a couple of Mayyors singles pop up and then disappear almost instantly, but the left a bit of a blistered wreckage in their path. Now the band has unleashed Deads and though its a bit more well rounded, its no less a harrowing experience. Loud as hell [...]

(photos from the Adriatic and entering Venice) And the rafts keep movin' on: - Gluing + duct-taping my shoes together for the third time this trip. Eventually I work out a combination of zip-ties and copper wire retainers . - Finding some amazing old weapons charts in an abandoned customs station. - Fried pizza. Yes it's that good. - Napping and I do not get along. - A snake set up home on Old Hickory for a bit in all the nooks and crannies. - Waking up one morning to a [...]

So the 2 releases are a bit delayed.... One didn't have good enough sound on the test pressing, the other is just delayed. Hope to have atleast one ready for the release party. While we wait you can download the Mayyors full set from WFMU . Mayyors has to be the greatest thing since sliced bread. Mayyors are not on my record label, but if someone involved reads this, I'm game. Mp3's: Mayyors recorded live at SXSW 2009 . Video from the show (the mp3's have good [...]

Sacramento is a small place. It's called the "city of a beer" by a website that was once dedicated to documenting the city's inbred band scene . A crazy ex-stunt driver in Sacto used to get away with hosting giant rock-and-roll junk-car crashing parties on his property once a year. A pal of mine discovered an underground drunk boxing league operating in a neighbor's backyard a few doors down from his house. You get the picture . Mayyors hail from Sacramento, and needless to say, they are inbred. In a good way: aggro, [...]

Seems to be the thing everyone's into nowadays. Obviously there's No Age and Abe Vigoda and all those other bands who hail from California but I'm goin' even deeper with the scuz. I'm talking about the bands where calling them lo-fi is an understatement. Where the fuzz and reverb totally obscures everything else. Vocals are barely distinguishable from the guitars or anything else. It all smears together into one blown out rock fest. And I gotta admit, it's pretty fun. Wavves - Wavves (from [...]
