Last year's Wanderlust Yoga & Music Festival was blooming with the latest and greatest of indie rock with acts like Common, Spoon, Andrew Bird, Jenny Lewis, Broken Social Scene, Gillian Welch, Girl Talk, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, Rogue Wave, Amanda Palmer, Kaki King , and Mates of State . That's quite an epic line-up for a festival in the mountains of Squaw Valley in Lake Tahoe, CA. However, there must have been a bunch of letters sent to the organizers of Wanderlust saying, "Hey! How 'bout in 2010...you quit with the indie rock crap and [...]
I know it's wicked ignorant to shit on people just because they're positive and healthy, but I'm having a tough time accepting the fact that there's a karma-pushing rapper named MC Yogi who rocks retreats and seminars. I'm all for conservative rap, and even nerdcore, but I guess I'm just not flexible enough for this. People who do yoga are annoying enough; if I'm ever at one of your apartments eating falafel, and you try putting this on for me, I'm going to wear my shoes in your living room.

Yesterday I had the opportunity to play radio ping-pong with KHUM-FM disc jockey, Michael Moore, Jr. KHUM-FM is a freeform radio station based in Humboldt County that's billed as "Radio Without The Rules." If you are not familiar with the concept of radio ping-pong it's pretty simple. One person picks a song - then the other follows it up with a selection of their own. I called into Michael's show at 11 a.m. and we played for two hours. Formerly a music director for KHSU (Humboldt State University Radio), Moore was a worthy and knowledgeable opponent. I saw this on MSNBC earlier this evening and was sure it was by the same dude whose very Shepard Fairey-looking pro-Obama video I had posted right before the election. Turns out I was right - not only that: this joint is on the homepage of YouTube today and has had over 800,000 views in 2 days! Bonus: Donwload the MC Yogi "Grassroots Movement" mp3 here . Not feeling the song so much but this video is flawlessly done. [via Illseed.com ]

Once again, I am amazed at the musical outpouring this US presidential election has inspired. And sorry John, they're not singing about you. At least, not that I know of. This one comes to us from MC Yogi, a yoga instructor, rapper, and "former graffiti artist" who has a new album just out called Elephant Power (think Ganesh with a boom box... which is actually the image used on the cover!). The song mixes Obama speeches with Yogi's rapping and some mellow hip-hop beats. Have a listen. [mp3] [...]
