Boston folk-rockers Mean Creek (MySpace) touch on tender melodies and lovely harmonies in a song that could have been lifted from a Fleet Foxes EP. "You don't want anything you need..." might be good advice for these cash strapped times...

What a Night for Live Music ! A little secret for you music enthusiasts out there. The best nights on tour are the first and the last. (The latter for it's full throttle, come-to-the-end madness, while the former for it's pomp and the fun the musicians have on stage.) by charles poladian Enough talk of the summer, I figure I am jinxing it. Let's talk turkey, or BBQ, and fireworks. Are you booked? Any plans? If you do, or even if you don't, music will be prevalent no matter where you go. With that being said, I think I have said enough and the Blitz needs to progress forward. To get us going, here are three fresh tracks for your firework brain. [...]

Drug Rug When we first started doing press, that's all people wanted to talk about. And we were like, "Fuck, that's so annoying." Despite their fatigue with the topic — being in a relationship that exists within a band (or vice versa) — Sarah Cronin and Tommy Allen (who's quoted above), of the Cambridge-based, Beatles-esque, lo-fi rock band Drug Rug, are surprisingly welcoming and amicable when I visit them at their Inman Square apartment on a Friday afternoon. Cronin and Allen know what I'm [...]

I managed to catch the end of Mean Creek, who I enjoyed for their two last songs but I don't feel I can really write about them based on that. It was fitting that they were playing with These United States, though. They had a very similar style. These United States were quite
Seeing The Subways [ Official Site , Myspace ] live is the musical equivolant of a torrential downpour. It consumes you. You can???t escape it, and even if you could, you wouldn???t try. It???s the kind of rainstorm that you never want to end. The band???s energy is infectious. They have a ???go hard or go home??? stage presence, but also a wryness about them - a clear indicator that they love their day job. And this, in turn, makes you love them. They are also easy on [...]

DOWNLOAD: Mean Creek, "Hands Behind Our Heads" (mp3) Chis Keene and Aurore Ounjian were kicking around town as an indie-folk duo called, in true Damon & Naomi fashion, Chris & Aurore. But lately they've been fleshing out their songs with a full band, and they've rechristened themselves MEAN CREEK . Their debut, Around the Bend (on Boston-based Clubhouse Records), finds them filling out Dylan-esque roots-rock ballads with boy-girl harmonies that hark back to the heyday of mid-'90s post-grunge pop. Yes, that's pretty much the bass line [...]
