first post in a month and first mixtape in a while too. these are all relatively recent chillwave-ish songs. chillwave is obviously a horrific term, but there is a certain reverby thread that runs through these. lie back and think of the jesus & mary chain. ::: wild nothing - cloudbusting ::: twin sister - lady daydream ::: washed out - belong ::: crystal stilts - shake the shackles ::: still corners - don't fall in love ::: la sera - devils hearts grow gold ::: beach house - i do not care for the winter [...]

Back when I started doing these mixes every month, I saw it as a manageable way to keep recommending music without the effort that it takes to do a researched, singular writeup. It seemed to me that picking out 10 random songs wouldn't be all that hard - I always have new things that I'm listening to, as well as my entire musical upbringing to highlight. A part of the experienced mixtaper in me was never satisfied with these as "mixes." For one, there is only so much you can do in 10 songs... they really seemed more like [...]

On "Kingdom Come" comes off like a redneck, backwater version of Fleet Foxes, but don't count out this project out yet. Eventually, the dam breaks and an ocean of layered acoustic instrumentation hits the mix. There's a nice sliced and looped crescendo in the track at 2:50 that really hits the spot, too. Though it sounds very messy and freaky on the surface, the track is very well structured; offering a lot of dynamics and diversity. Dig on the song below, which comes off the EP pictured above: The The Guests Guests Are Are Gone Gone Gone Gone . [...]

[7"] Mean Wind - Down for the count

Download: Mean Wind - The The Guests Guests Are Are Gone Gone Gone Gone Mean Wind have dropped a new song, but i'm gonna save that beauty for the pod, but as I'm as new to these as you, I'm gonna get you onto their latest EP: a collection of songs that are becoming my new best friends. Charming little folk pop songs, they got that signature haze that you cannae escape and do veer on the Bradford Cox and Beach Boys, but these little suckers have charmed me and who [...]
[via yvynyl ] Halifax's Mean Wind , former purveyors of charming, rough indie folk/pop as found on their free What Happens in Hingham Stays in Hingham EP , are getting into the habit of releasing a new track every week. The latest addition is "Down For The Count," an impossibly infectious, dusty folk/pop gem that premiered on yvynyl yesterday and is about as replayable as anything so far this year. Listen below: [MP3] Mean Wind - Down For The Count "I [...]

Damn, dude, sorry to hear about it. I never did get my Tendercrisp Bacon Cheddar Ranch . In memorandum of our sweet Prince, Mean Wind has penned a beautifully twisted jangle pop barn burner called "Darius Rucker is Dead." Let her cry, guy, let her cry. The band says: "This song is a cover of a song by The Chord Progressians (pronounced Progresh-eee-uns, a la Ray Davies in 'Session Man'), who were playing it in a dream I had several months ago. The scene in my dream was a lot like the Yardbirds show in Antonioni's 'Blow Up' [...]

PS I Love You - Facelove Af tvískiptri 73 Diamond Rings / PS I Love You (kom reyndar út 2009 en við látum það slæda í þetta skiptið). PS I Love You - [...]
I'm not really sure which mountain range the folks of Mean Wind have burrowed into, but I'm happy their radiant echoes have made it down the incline and into our valley. The The Guests... [go to the website to read the rest of the article, download mp3s and more]

Mean Wind - "Kingdom Come" This story takes place in a sacred house. A treasure house hidden by trees and down a rocky lane. The air thick with humid history, a fortifying stillness, a rousing energy of glad, of birth in the face of death. The story is simple: a family grows up. But the house, glory be, the house is what makes it. Like gilded velvet curtains around the same old play. [ Mean Wind are continually impressive, clever, sparkling. They have a new EP ]

Just a quick disclaimer here; for those new to herohill we only cover Canadian content so my favorites list - note: not best-of, as that kind of debate is a bit pointless - is kind of like the cast of SCTV or peameal bacon. If it had a sweater, it would be warm and woolly and if it had a favorite sport, it would be curling (or lacrosse?). One quick point of interest; I opted to omit a few bands that offered up killer EPs AND LPs to give a bit more variety in the lists, but overall it's [...]

There's a minor plot premise in Punch-Drunk Love where Adam Sandler 's character realizes that he can buy snackpacks of pudding for some sort of air miles promotion, and send in individual bar codes to essentially fleece the company and cash in on inflated travel mileage. For some reason, every time Mean Wind (or Long Long Long or the now defunct York Redoubt ) puts out another free EP, I feel sort of like Barry Egan hoping to reap the rewards before Caleb catches on and closes the loophole. [...]

What happens in Hingham stays in Hingham . Smakprov kommer nedan och hela släppet laddas ner på Bandcamp (d/l) Mean Wind - Equality before the law (the guests are here) Mean [...]
What happens in Hingham stays in Hingham sólo cuesta un clic y es una monada. [MP3] Pacific leather

That's actually inaccurate - there's nothing that blows about Mean Wind . These canticles are air tight. Mean Wind combines the snaky clean guitar interplay of various '90s tastemakers (think Bedhead on caffeine) with Liars' uncanny ability to take familiar rock elements and piecemeal them together in an unfamiliar manner. Mash play on new jam "Coming Down the Mountain" (not to be confused with the Jane's Addiction song, which is also top shelf without saying) for a good time, as well as "Kingdom Come." Mean Wind also wins an Internet for best MySpace . Keep it [...]

Mean Wind = Kingdom Come Man, I know I'm late on this one . But, these mysterious creatures just left a self-deprecating message with their music linked. As if this music would be considered to "clutter" my inbox. Mean Wind keeps their cards to their chest, but it doesn't really matter, cause their music has been playing nonstop since last night. They just released this single Kingdom Come . It's somewhat reminiscent of Fleet Foxes, Lord Huron; full [...]

What happens in Hingham stays in Hingham Mean Wind - Kingdom come
Props to my good friend Cole for turning me on to Mean Winds and their What Happens in Hingham Stays in Hingham EP. There's hardly anything on the web about these guys, with the noted exception of the aforementioned EP which you can download for free . Here's the EP's opening track: [MP3] Mean Winds - Yr Swword "We could be magistrates or con men, but we'd still be alone", according to "Yr Swword" and its pessimistic narrator. What he [...]

There was an interesting article on Pitchfork two days ago about the use of vintage images as cover art for a record, and the debate it sparks. While I'm sure the young men from Mean Wind could care less about the debate, the pink, purple and orange hues that date and cloud the image that adorns the cover of What Happens in Hingham Stays in Hingham says a lot about the latest project from the Halifax prodigies that concocted the most creative, infectious, noise filled sounds to come out of Halifax lately. [...]
