This weekend we shared the photos from Starfucker's amazing performance at MOKB's Official SXSW Showcase. We also clued you in to their upcoming album Jupiter which is scheduled to be released on May 5th though Badman Recording Co . Today we have an exclusive download from that upcoming album. Medicine is the synth-driven lead track from Jupiter and it has a bit of [...]

shoegazing as a music genre has popped in and out of fashion since its media inception around 1990. but these days it seems more popular than ever, with various blogs, compilations and new bands dedicated to celebrating and replicating the layered sounds popularised by just a handful of bands. shoegazing will always have a special place in my music collection because its arrival coincided with my own musical "awakening", transforming me from someone who liked a bit of music, this and that, bits and bobs, to a rabid indie guitar fan. so i've followed this most recent revival [...]

"The opening of Shot Forth Self Living seems to summarize Medicine's entire approach to music: a burst of guitar feedback begins and screeches for longer than one would think tolerable - and then, suddenly, drums and an elephantine bassline emerge and the listener finds that in the midst of all the noise, there's a beautiful pop song slipping through. Hence the omnipresent My Bloody Valentine comparisons - both bands have found that by "burying" the primary melodies under waves of sound, they can create something more subtle and more moving than the average pop song. Shot Forth [...]

Most shoegazer music came out of the UK, led by the likes of My Bloody Valentine, Catherine Wheel, Lush, Ride, and the Jesus & Mary Chain. The leading light this side of the pond was probably Medicine. Led by guitarist Brad Lader and singer Beth Thompson the band seemed poised to break with the stellar "Time Baby III", which was featured on The Crow soundtrack. But after a pretty good album, Her Highness , we didn't [...]

Jolie Holland and Herman Dune October 24, 2008 The Jackpot Music Hall Better Than : 500 mg of Doxycycline. By GRANT SNIDER To paraphrase Adam Duritz, poet laureate of '90s Top 40 Radio, I want to meet a girl who looks like Elvis. As Jolie Holland sings, one side of her upper lip curls into a King-like sneer you'd swear was lifted from a Graceland shrine. With no hip swiveling to speak of, Holland's facial contortions [...]
Reason #10 Why I Love Old People : The older you get, the younger I look. You're 83 years old and just told me you & your 89-year old husband thought I must be a teenager. Aww, shucks. Thanks for letting such a young kid interview & examine you. Reason #9 : You are blind. "It's so NICE to see a pretty girl here in the hospital!" I blush. By the way, you are also female. Reason #8 : You [...]
Medicine is (was?) a great shoegaze band from LA. Shot Forth Self Living is a superb example of dandy noise pop. It's fantastic headphones music, which is what I judge... well, what I judge a lot of music by. I imagine on speakers it doesn't sound that great (or as great, anyway), because you wouldn't be able to pick up the catchy little bass/drum intricacy in the first song or the waves of sound that float through the rest of the CD. The harmonies are perfect. Also, if you'd invested in a CD copy [...]

Medicine's grammatically confusing debut LP, Shot Forth Self Living . Due to my listening habits as of late leaning pretty shoegazey, I might as well let it show on here, so here we go. Medicine first appeared on Creation Records in 1992 with their single "Aruca". Shorty following "Aruca", an LP – Shot Forth Self Living – was released. It's a brilliant record – beautiful and noisy as hell, but not without it's moments of undeniable danceable-ness! The record's most shining moment in my opinion – aside from, perhaps, the bridge [...]
I saw it here first , but it just so happens that Coachella has officially announced next year's 2008 festival dates and a preliminary Stagecoach lineup taking place the following weekend. The "it's so freakin' hot out here" 3-day festival takes place April 25-27 at the usual spot in Indio, California. According to Billboard.com they will start announcing bands early next year. But why wait when you can build your own rumored imaginary list? Dozens of bloggers will be compiling [...]
Brad Laner , formerly of the bands Medicine and Electric Company , is currently at work on the score to Eric Green's shoegazer documentary, Beautiful Noise, which is currently in post production and is set for a likely 2008 release. The film focuses on My Bloody Valentine, The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Cocteau Twins and other bands that have been influenced by those three. Laner's former band, Medicine , is the only American band featured in the portion of the film focusing on the first wave of shoegaze (80s/ early 90s). Brad Laner [...]
The Postal Service - Such Great Heights.mp3 The Postal Service - Brand New Colony.mp3 I have been really sick lately. Listening to The Postal Service makes me feel a lot better. Music therapy has always been a field of medicine that fascinated me. The Postal Service is definitely my curl-up-in-a-ball-and-take-a-n ap-to-get-better music. thepostalservicemusic.net - myspace - hypem search
Remember this song is over 9 minutes long so don't be giving up the ghost after the opening minutes of strung out guitar feedback. Sure there are some industrial strength waves of screeching chords present throughout but beneath the mayhem there is a living and breathing tune. Brad Laner was responsible for the terrific racket but he took his inspiration from several European shoegazing outfits

I am squeezing in an update before tomorrows Thanksgiving festivities take place. This also means that I am going to try and squeeze in a bit more into this one post, so be prepared. I do wish everyone a safe travel to wherever you may be going to eat dinner and that everyone does have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Now on with my last update until this weekend most likely. For those that follow baseball, I just want to know. Have the owner's gone absolutely batshit insane this off-season? I mean I just got [...]

LA’s Medicine were one of those bands that I liked from the instant I heard them. I remember picking up the "Shot Forth Self Living" record and being incredibly impressed. I think what I like about it the most is that it had the whole "Creation Records vibe" but still has a punk rock feel. Even though they were picked up by American, I don't think they were ever given the proper attention they deserved. When I saw them play on "The Buried Life" tour, they played to a 350 capacity club which was half full. This Beach Boys cover [...]
