Espers frontwoman Meg Baird 's second solo album 'Seasons On Earth' was, fittingly, released at the beginning of Autumn. Its organic, rustic nature is perfectly suited to nights drawing in and leaves turning yellow, and new download-only single 'Babyon' is the kind of crystal clear, gently plucked folk that's built to soundtrack cosy nights by the fireside, a glass of your favourite tipple in hand with "golden company" . This is surely a track that will go down well with the beards and knitwear brigade but should also appeal to the Laura Marling generation. Depending [...]

Local folk musician Meg Baird is currently on tour in the UK with no Philly performances scheduled for the near future. However, you can click here to listen to her recent interview and performance on World Cafe with David Dye. During her appearance, she discusses and performs tracks from her second album, Seasons On Earth , which was released by Drag City back in September.
Meg Baird is a singer-songwriter who first rose to prominence as part of storied psych-folk outfit Espers, a Philadelphia collective whose three full-lengths crystallized the sound of the more somber and sonically kaleidoscopic elements of the mid-aughts "Freak Folk" scene. Between Espers' second and third records, Baird released Dear Companion , an understated but deeply affecting solo record consisting primarily of covers and traditional songs. Those who fell immediately under Meg's spell had to wait an excruciating four years for the follow-up, Seasons on Earth , which arrived on Drag City [...]

I am becoming more and more confident in talking on the radio. I am slowly developing my voice - my on-air personality. There is still room for improvement; namely in the transition from Stuarto's show to mine, but I'll get there eventually. Last Friday's show was centered around indie-folk again, with plenty of psychedelic folk, orchestral folk, and folk-pop as well. As started last week, two songs will be featured at bottom. "Notorious Lightning" by Destroyer off Your Blues "Shanty for the Arethusa" [...]
Local folk musician Meg Baird has a new video for her single, "The Finder," off of her latest album, Seasons On Earth . The video is just as sparse and mellow as Baird's eerie, wandering vocals, featuring the artist in vacant rooms and empty fields. The whole thing isn't entirely melancholy, though; make sure to catch the unexpected but sincre smile the songwriter cracks toward the end. (Thanks to Make Major Moves ' Elliott Sharp for the heads up.) —Marielle Mondon Meg Baird's "The Finder" [...]
