Megafaun : Lazy Suicide Birthday Boys : Righteous Man Learn More ... Megafaun ... Birthday Boys

I first heard "Lazy Suicide" by Megafaun and was immediately hooked. The song slowly builds with wonderful harmonies ala The Avett Brothers with just a hint of the sound that makes me love O'Death so much. The song slowly descends into a bizarre little jam full of unique instrumentation before easing back into the harmonies that hooked you in the first place. After listening to "Lazy Suicide" on repeat for a couple of days, I downloaded Bury The Square the morning it came out. I was eager to see what else was in store. [...]
The Good: LCD Soundsystem - "Big Ideas"; We here at Pop Tarts Suck Toasted have more or less reached the point where anything James Murphy puts out is pretty much as good as gold. I mean sure we'll be ready to call him out if he releases something truly questionable, but "Big Ideas" certainly isn't questionable and may in fact be as good as anything on Sound of Silver. Yeah it's that good, and

OK, count this as a classic Karen Mann brain fart: I was somehow under the impression that Megafaun's new CD was, uh, new. Turns out it's a re-release of their self-released CD from last year. Brad Cook from Megafaun says: "actually....the guy at Table of the Elements wanted to release that one as is.....so no new recording. We are working on a follow up as we speak....." Now, the reason why I didn't do anything with this CD when Grayson first gave it to me was that, until I heard them [...]

Each week (or whenever we have time) we take a listen to some of the top songs from elbows, review them and then give our selection of alternative tracks that we believe should be getting more recognition Tapes n Tapes "Hang Them All" I saw these guys play live at Fletchers a couple years ago and was really impressed. Their music is pretty down-to-earth, straight forward without being boring or unoriginal. Although I was a little skeptical of what they were going to be able to produce next and its quality, however [...]

Megafaun release their debut Bury the Square today. In all honesty, I have no idea how this record sounds, apart from the song below. They'll soon be supporting and playing as part of Akron/Family on their way to SXSW. After their SXSW Table of the Elements showcase (Th, March 13th @ Hideout Theatre) they'll be doing their own North American tour in April and May. The three guys in Megafaun used to be in DeYarmond Edison with Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) and also, Brad is co-owner of Burlytime records who brought you Bowerbirds last year. [...]
The man who wrote a music for a shoe company has decided to lob his Kelly Kapoor approved efforts in a slightly more conventional direction: a movie company. Sony Pictures is releasing 21 (as in never always double down on 11) this March and has commissioned LCD to write a track, which they entitled "Big Ideas." Other artists on the soundtrack include Rihanna, UNKLE, MGMT, Amon Tobin (contributing old songs), Mark Ronson and Kasabian (doing most likely a Motowned version of Kasabian's "Lost Souls Forever") and D Sardy & Duke Spirit's Liela Moss (doing something [...]
Alright, I can almost guarantee that regular AD readers will be into the following tunes; and hey, now that we've installed the streaming media player, you may as well stream a track...you know, save yourself that 20 seconds of downloading, and get your preview on. Megafaun, which I misread as Mega"fun" several times last week (and [...]

Not much is going to sneak out of North Carolina for a while. The blogosphere has an eye and ear firmly planted on all the exciting artists with ties to or making music down that way. Megafaun had a lot of connections to things that I am really, really into, so I was more than ready to give their ep a listen when it came in. The three guys in Megafaun used to be in DeYarmond Edison with Justin Vernon (of Bon [...]

Because I generally try to keep my coverage localized (Long Beach, Los Angeles, Orange Country, and sometimes the IE), I often wait to write about a non-local band until they come through the area on tour, but sometimes that opportunity never arises. And because I sometimes hate my own self-imposed rule, I today decided to include a new feature where I will highlight a couple bands (most of them probably not being local) each week for the next month who are heading to SXSW (only because I go for work every year and it seems most of Los [...]
Okay, so these songs have nothing to do with the Virginia primaries, but I'm stuck at work covering them. So I decided to go through all the promo CDs I have yet to listen to. Here are the songs running through my head at the present moment. Air Traffic - Come On Leerone - To Fill The Void Arthur Nasson - Postcard From A Never Ending Day Arthur Nasson - Memory Girls Eugene Francis Jnr - Poor Me [...]

Loch Lamond er Portlandsveit nokkur sem spilar seiðandi og ljúft þjóðlagapopp stutt af strengjasveit og eftirminnanlegri söngrödd forsöngvarans. Megafaun has their debut album, Bury The Square , coming out February 19th. If you haven't heard of them before then the best way that I can describe them is as a mix of Califone, a more primitive Cold War Kids, a little bit of the music you might hear on Harry Smith's folk anthology, or the backing band in the Cohen Bros O Brother Where Art Thou . Last year they were asked to tour with Akron/Family for six weeks, and not only did they open for them every night, but [...]
Victory Records makes a stand against online piracy From Victory's myspace blog : " Victory Records is taking a step towards actively combating the effect of illegal downloads on the music industry, by issuing cease and desist letters to those found guilty of leaking Victory Records' albums on the internet. The investigations have begun following the recent leaks of the new albums from Victory artists. These recently discovered leaks have jeopardized the future for several developing Victory acts like Across Five Aprils, Farewell to Freeway, Secret Lives [...]
