A pretty big release week. No idea why. Metallica is putting their new one out... on Friday. Whatever floats their boat. And the posthumous release from Mitch Hedburg will be awesome. I'll definitely be checking out stuff from Calexico , Fujiya and Miyagi , Woven Hand , Mogwai and Jesu too. And probably Brian Welch album for a good laugh. :: A Static Lullaby , Rattlesnake! (Fearless) :: Aids Wolf [...]

Joshua Radin's ability to make simplicity beautiful is what carried his debut album We Were Here to great heights. The way he can wear his heart on his sleeve and make it seen perfectly ok is what hooked his legion of fans. Well maybe that and Zach Braff's numerous uses of Radin songs in Scrubs and films. With a fitting name, the Ohio-born, Los Angeles-based musician's new album Simple Times, takes a step in a new direction while staying lodged in his 'simplistic' roots. The first thing that stands out with [...]

Meiko I couldn't remember how I found her when my friends haven't even heard her music. And the last time I checked, I cant find a decent site with her name. That kinda sucks. Meiko is an indie-pop artist who recently released an album under the Myspace Records label earlier this August. Meiko is not new to the music scene- Meiko's last album was the #1 folk album on iTunes and got more than 200,000 downloads. Her sound consists of plucky guitars & lyrics alongside her pop beats, and coupled with her lovely youthful [...]

Monday 8/25/08 [Recommended] Radiohead / Liars @ Hollywood Bowl (Sold Out) – I'm not a diehard like a lot of people, but Radiohead's still a great live band. I will be there tonight. [Recommended] Bon Iver / A.A. Bondy @ Troubadour (Sold Out) – Bon Iver put out one of my favorite records of the year. Justin Vernon was quite good earlier this year at a sold out show at the Echo. AA Bondy Warpaint / [...]

With just the right amount of well...everything, its time for the world to meet Meiko . Hailing from Georgia and currently residing in Los Angeles, the singer/songwriter got her start at the Hotel Cafe. Now she has a record deal with Lucky Ear/MySpace/DGC Records and is slowly creeping the way into the hearts of everyone that listens to her. She just re-released her self titled album on August 5th and for a bit of time if you purchase the album you get a limited addition acoustic EP (see it DOES pay to buy an album!). [...]
It's over. 32 concerts, tons of ass kissing, few surprises, late nights, and a few memorable performances. I could give a full report but I'll spare you the let down of the numerous negatives I could say. Instead, I'll let you know that seeing Ray Lamontagne's bellowing and airy vocals were a perfect match for the Boulder Theater's ambiance. Ingrid Michaelson easily upped her fan base and had my friends searching the Internet all day trying to lasso the tunes she debuted. I was almost embarrassed to admit I actually loved Brendan James' set...think [...]
I'm so super stupid stoked about Meiko re-releasing her debut album to the masses that I just couldn't wait to share about it. It hit iTunes today and can be found in stores on September 9th. I've mentioned her a handful of times and never really devoted a full post to her music and shame on me for that because she's seriously one of my favorite female artists of the moment and has been for a
We would like to introduce you to Meiko . When we kicked back, threw on the headphones, and listened to this artist we thought "If one could have a crush based on the sound of person's voice...this would be the one above all others." What did you think? Use a tag or comment to share your thoughts with everyone. Enjoy. Genre: Rock-Pop-Folk Label: Unsigned Source: [...]
Valentine's Day is all about love and occasionally... forbidden love. We've been the secret admirers of many a Los Angeleno so let this be the day to prove it. Close your eyes, this might get messy... Pleasant People of Henry Clay, You make everyone giddy and giggle and, yes, google up the name "Henry Clay". Your signature front kicks on the downbeat are miraculous, especially when they come

. 1. Don't wish for perfect health. In perfect health, there is greed and wanting. So an ancient said, " Make good medicine from the suffering of sickness." 2. Don't hope for life without problems. An easy life results in a judgmental and lazy ind. So an ancient once said, "Accept the anxieties and difficulties of this life". 3. Don't expect your practice to be clear of obstacles. Without hindrances the mind that seeks enlightenment may be burnt out. So an ancient once said, "Attain deliverance in disturbances" - Zen [...]
Olly recently wrote about Mieka's album "Elijah Drop Your Gun" which got me thinking about another singer Meiko . She is a local talent that plays often at The Hotel Cafe , as a matter of fact you can find her there this Wednesday night at 10 pm. Many around town of been singing her praises. Including Paste Magazine : "I arrived in time to catch a gorgeous set from Meiko, a waitress at Hotel Café and from what I heard last night, my pick for their next [...]

To learn more about Mieka Pauley, read my article over at BTR . This post here today is about the serendipity of Mieka and meiko. Last week, I got Mieka's album "Elijah Drop Your Gun" and meika's song How Lucky We Are was the free from iTunes. The former is from Boston, the ladder is from L.A. Far as I can tell, their music is close in style, feel and emotion. Although Mieka has more crunch than meiko. They are made to be posted together. Listen: Mieka Pauley ~ [...]
"Don't you dare come to me for forgiveness you traitorous bitch." I hope Sara Ramirez gets an Emmy nod for her portrayal of the jilted wife this season because she is SUPERB. I wanted to post a still from that particular scene but couldn't find one and since to me that's THE defining moment in last night's episode I just decided not to post a photo at all this time. On to the tunes... Kim
Yawn. Is it just me or is this show getting really boring? I think every time someone new from Meredith's life is introduced on the show, a little part of me wants to change the channel. Maybe it should become a drinking game, or something. Thankfully the music in this week's episode trumped the actual story lines. There are too many interns. I can't follow. Anyways, the music. Some typical indie pop from I'm From Barcelona and Miss Lily Allen to keep the show from getting too depressing, added with some more daring choices including KCRW and [...]

So it has been brought to my attention that the end of summer is getting closer as the days pass. I feel like I haven't really been able to enjoy summer the way I would've liked to. If I could do it over again, things probably would've ended up the same way. We decided to put together a mix to help facilitate the end of summer. Pop this into your ipods, go to the beach, watch the sunset, and be happy. Summer will leave us soon and we will welcome autumn. A few of these artists are local, as in [...]
