![[Introducing] – Whitehorse](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4035141_lg.jpg)
Tweet Beginning the record with a dancehall radio ballad dream entitled "Eulogy For Whiskers, Part 13 , Whitehorse certainly set themselves apart from the crowd of country-folk mix that seems to have suddenly permeated the country. What is perhaps even more incredible, though, is the follow-up to this lazy, tripped-out modern take on a ballad is unmistakable rockabilly rock 'n' roll with harmonies to boot on "Killing Time Is Murder" , which is available for free download [...]
Winter. You may not like it, but you cannot escape it. Unless you live somewhere where they don't have winter, then kudos, you have escaped winter! For the rest of us though, it's best to find some way to enjoy these frigid months. Outdoor activities are fine and dandy, goodness knows our new skating oval here in Halifax has been a huge hit by all accounts, but if you're looking for something indoors, intimate and musical, then the 2012 edition of the In The Dead of Winter festival is a must. As has become [...]

The personal union of Six Shooter artists Melissa McClelland and Luke Doucet finds an artistic outlet in the form of Whitehorse which gets a release of the Canadian label later this month, it is of course not the pairs first musical collaboration, both have played on each others albums and Doucet handled the production of McClelland's trio of solo albums and between them they've gathered a number well deserved nominations and awards from the Canadian Folk Music Awards, the Hamilton Music Awards, Independent Music Awards, Juno's and Polaris. For this musical partnership, short album [...]

It's about time. A few months ago, I found myself attending a snazzy dinner at one of Niagara's fantastic wineries, sitting next to a lovely woman who was once a producer at CBC Radio 1 in Toronto, and having a great discussion about our favourite Canadian music, when the topic of Luke Doucet came up. We discovered a mutual love of his music, and I mentioned my long held desire to hear Doucet and his wife Melissa McClelland work together as a duo, saying that I could imagine just how magical their musical pairing would be. [...]

Whitehorse is the new project from Canadian indie rock supercouple Melissa McClelland and Luke Doucet. The self-titled album is out now on iTunes and gets a physical release on August 30th. Two songs into this one and I was already blown away. The arrangements are an incredibly vibrant concoction of roots, country, and other gritty styles. "Killing Time Is Murder", for instance, is a

Luke Doucet's appearance at The Basement completed my recent trilogy in covering Canadian performers visiting Nashville, and I must say...I haven't been giving Canada the affection and attention it deserves. We went to The Basement looking forward to a relaxed singer/songwriter night, and we shamefully, put a stereotypical stamp on what we were going to hear. Doucet slapped us in our judgmental little faces by unleashing his mastery upon his White Falcon. Yeah, might sound a bit over dramatic, but it's true. At times, I couldn't [...]

Just a quick mid-week pop-in to point coverfans to the 29 Springsteen covers WXPN solicited from their favorite Philly bands, courtesy of Bruce of Some Velvet Blog . The track list is stellar, with nary a dud throughout: Farewell Flight's bedroom folk cover of Streets of Philadelphia is especially noteworthy, and don't forget to stick around until the end of the playlist for Susan Werner 's lovely version of My Hometown and a slow alt-country take on Independence Day from the John Train Band . [...]
Toronto's own Melissa McClelland has recently released her third studio album Victoria Day. Brimming with alt.country sounds, Victoria Day adds several other musical influences that keep the songs fresh as the album progresses. Elements of jazz and swing can be found on "When the Lights Went Off In Hogtown" and "Victoria Day (May Flowers)". The horns pop up again on "God Loves Me" and "

We spoke with Melissa McClelland a few weeks ago right before she set out across Route 66 with her mom to research her family's genealogical history. The trip is timed perfectly around the release of her new album, Victoria Day , on Six Shooter Records. As she travels the legendary road she's stopping off to play a few shows...and maybe use her mom as roadie. Tell us about your new album. It's called Victoria Day , [which] is a holiday that we celebrate in Canada, the queen's birthday. It's kind of like Memorial Day [...]

Summer is a great time for the blues. Not the mood, but the music. Loud rock n' roll is great for the beach and Friday night cruises, but if the hot July sun has you spending a lazy afternoon under your favourite tree or enjoying a leisurely country drive, the cool sounds of a vintage guitar and a soulful, smooth voice will put you in that relaxing state of mind. No wonder there's so many blues and jazz festivals in full swing. Everyone from Derek Trucks to Johnny Winter [...]

Melissa McClelland | Living Room | May 28, 2009 It wasn't long after Melissa McClelland took the stage at the Living Room last night when I fell into a bit of a daze. She had a hypnotic voice that just sort of captivated me and hypnotized my senses for the duration of her set. I did break myself away from my trance long enough to snap a few photos, which are posted below. www.melissamcclelland.com | www.sixshooterrecords.com
