Odd Future-ers Hodgy Beats and Domo Genesis have been trickling out a few leaks from a collaborative project over the last few weeks. But as is the way with the ever-prolific OFWGKTA lot, they like to confuse us older folks. Why the confusion? Well, the pair is known as MellowHigh. Not to be confused with MelloHype, Hodgy's partnership with fellow OFWGKTA-er Left Brain. Those crazy kids. Whatever will they come up with next. But just like MellowHype, MellowHigh (so many mellows, so much confusion) seems to be a pretty damn good [...]
This week Odd Future's Hodgy Beats and Domo Genesis teamed up as Mellowhigh to release a Lex Luger-produced new song, "Timbs". On the 20th of April they were back with another new... [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my website for full links, other content, and more! ]]
Odd Future - The OF Tape Vol.2. Odd Future Records: 2012 Odd Future 's meteoric blog-fueled rise was fast, probably too fast. Eventually things slowed down as the shock wore off, leaving a group of kids grappling to find themselves as musicians maybe before they had time to fully develop. Fast forward a year or two of critical backlash and the group is releasing The OF Tape Vol. 2, nothing ground breaking but a refreshing reminder of why the group got where they are in the first [...]
Earlier that day, at the pop up shop, I heard a random British teenage boy pose an interesting question - "What's the big deal for some asshole with a backwards cap and gap teeth?". Hours later, at the Odd Future concert, unable to breathe amongst the craziest and most tightly packed crowd I have ever seen, I could not help but wonder the same question. What was it about Tyler and his group that made me, normally a fairly sane individual, try to knock a grown man over to get a better view of [...]

In the words of OFWGKTA fringe player L-Boy: "Once upon a time there was this group of dusty-ass motherfuckers, create lidl group for theyselves. They call theyselves Odd Future ." When not perfecting kickflips atop Californian concrete they'd flip out verbally on erratic mixtapes which went on to receive ecstatic acclaim far beyond their native State. Linguistically filthy and impulsively derogatory, interest soon evanesced leaving the future of this multimedia-molesting collective indeed odd and altogether uncertain. Such flagrant misogyny, bigotry and vitriol may be, from a rational human perspective, preordained [...]

Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All, thankfully shortened to Odd Future for this release, is a hip-hop collective led by Tyler, the Creator , though I'm sure if you've heard anything about their crazy hype in the past year, you already know that - Tyler won MTV's Best New Artist award at the Video Music Awards this year for the crazy awesome video, Yonkers, off of Tyler's sophomore release Goblin. Tyler has been a controversial figure in hip-hop, packaging questionable production value and obscenity on a vile enough level to be considered [...]

Hodgy Beats - " Ave. (Prod. by Thelonious Martin)" Last night, as promised , MellowHype -man Hodgy Beats let loose a new Untitled EP featuring the star-studded production talents of Three 6 Mafia's Juicy J , Stone's Throw beatsmith Jonti , and the inimitable FlyLo . As someone who leapt off the OF bandwagon shortly after Goblin ( eghk ), I have to say—it [...]

As you may know, Odd Future have a new album, OF Tape Vol. 2 , coming out on March 20th. The collective, as unusual and silly as ever, have premiered the album's first single and video, "Rella." Tyler, the Creator , Hodgy Beats , Domo Genesis all trade verses over a seriously mean beat from true star Left Brain . Check it out below: Continue reading: New: Odd Future - "Rella" Read more articles like " New: Odd Future - [...]

Photo by Heather Kaplan Odd Future will be just as busy this year as they were last, with plans for a number of studio albums, along with a spring tour. To start, the Los Angeles-bred hip-hop collective will release a new mixtape, OF Tape Vol. 2 , on March 20th via their own Odd Future Records. 2011 was a fantastic year for Los Angeles based hip-hop/skateboard collective Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All with releases from Tyler the Creator , Mellowhype , Frank Ocean , The Internet and Mike G , and yet after all that it looks like the group still won't be slowing down in 2012. Following last year's Goblin , Tyler the Creator is set to release Wolf sometime in the [...]
I've just moved to Los Angeles to finish my final semester of college, and so far… it's everything I thought it would be. Yes, there is a lot of driving. Yes, it is much slower paced than NY. Yes, In N Out Burger is amazing. However, living in LA has inspired me to think about the greatness of the LA hip hop sound, and how accurately the tracks match the environment out here. That got me writing about my favorite California Hip Hop tracks. This is my top 5... [...]

Their stock may be falling , but the well-adjusted young people in the Odd Future rap collective are staying productive. The generally unhinged Hodgy Beats, for one, posted a couple of new songs on his Tumblr . One, "BKLYN," is a drifty solo track with production from one Thelonious Martin. The other, "Lift," is credited to MellowHigh, which would be MellowHype, Hodgy's duo with producer Left Brain, with fellow O.F. rapper Domo Genesis as well. On "Lift," Three 6 Mafia's Juicy J also shows up for a verse. Listen to both below. Read More...
