Revisiting some of the classics 5-star songs from my iPod. It was the discover of these songs that really got me into experimental, indie music. This is the third song I've played from Fabuloso. I'm figuring you can tell I just really like his sound. Melvern's voice is almost addictive. I drop by his website periodically to see what's new. MP3 File

Today I was thinking back on the fabulous parties I had the honor of attending during the recently concluded holiday season. One of these parties, the hostess of which prefers to remain anonymous, was especially gratifying due in no small part to the pedantic and erudite conversation as well as the high-quality of the crab puffs. Stuffing my face with apple and Armagnac croustade , I unwittingly found myself embroiled in a debate as to whether the ukulele was a legitimate musical instrument. When pressed for an opinion, I offered, both that the ukulele was [...]

Lacking time or ability to really focus on mixtapiness this week, I've asked a good friend, fellow music aficionado and blogger to take the reins this week. She's come through in stunning fashion. Thanks to Mel from New Leaves In March for keeping the Friday Mixtape tradition here going. At the end of each year, I put together a mix cd that acts as a sort of musical yearbook for me. I try to capture new artists I discovered as well as the songs that really stood out on the ipod during the [...]

On a rainy Saturday afternoon when Melvern Taylor was in seventh grade, he made his musical aspirations clear to his entire family. With his brother's acoustic guitar (which he wasn't allowed to touch) and an Eagles songbook at his side, he taught himself all he could about the instrument and music theory for months. Growing up on the classics of The Beatles and the Rolling Stones, Taylor eventually gained more diversity on his growing musicianship. During the 90s, he was the leading man for Mudfoot, whose rhythm section consisted of upright bassist Johnny Grant and drummer Bob Nash. [...]
