While I'm still waiting for the knock-out headliner to appear (Come on aging British band doing the reunion circuit in 2012. Pulp. Stone Roses, or even Jesus and Mary Chain, would do), the Pitchfork Music Festival has added some intriguing acts to the lineup for the weekend of July 13th-15th. None are more intriguing to this rocker than The Men, the anonymously named bunch of New Yorkers who have released the year's most thrilling rock album to date . Joining The Men are The Atlas Moth, Danny Brown, Clams Casino, Dirty Projectors, Flying Lotus, Iceage, [...]
. . . I'm seeking replacements for me. As I said before , I'm leaving this site on September 24. I may have a hand in one-off projects here and there, but it's time for me to leave daily operation of this site to others. I've been performing many functions (see below) and doing a barely adequate job at them. Dedicated people for dedicated tasks is the way to go. Except for the editor and writers, the positions should require only 5-10 hours each week. I'm confident that the right people can make this site much bigger [...]
Kitsuné was born in Paris, lives in Paris and lives for Paris, with this said Kitsuné created the clothing line Parisien. The Parisien is a line that grows up with new items every year in order to capture the essence of the Parisien look, all made by high quality fabric. The Parisien line, started of [...]

I came across a couple tracks by a band called Cascaders on Friendship Bracelet last week, and low and behold it is the new project of Jamie from Group Tightener Records and Men & Women . I contacted Jamie, and he sent over the three songs that he has finished. I've been delving back into some philosophy texts these days, and instrumental music is what I crave...and Cascaders pretty much hit that spot. Cascaders are dark cold compositions based in electronics and guitar. The sparse sounds remind me of being [...]
Jamie from Group Tightener Records and Men & Women is next in my best of series. Group Tightener is a label that I gained notice of earlier this year, and I had the pleasure of attending their un-official CMJ party at Monster Island (see videos of Best Coast at that show here ). Group Tightener Records has already released the Men & Women LP (technically on War & Moon), and Best Coast's Make You Mine 73...and appears to have a big [...]

It is elementary that freedom of expression (including academic freedom) is not to be restricted to views of which one approves, and that it is precisely in the case of views that are almost universally despised and condemned that this right must be most vigorously defended. - Noam Chomsky Remix Sunday 124 Zipped Up. So here is something special I found in the ole' inbox yesterday, a new Cousin Cole remix. It is a remix of the experimental NYC based project Men and Women 's latest release, entitled "South America." Cole is personal friends with these guys and was asked, along with Elliott Lipp , to lay down some mixes for Men and Women's first release off of War and Moon records. I am totally digging this mix; it's solid, it's layered wonderfully and it shows that thought and care was put into it. This isn't [...]
Nice leftfield disco by Men and Women . Their release South America is available now in Digital EP and 12" Vinyl on War and Moon Records . Formed in 2006, Men and Women's Jamie Granato and Brad Frost, hailing from opposite ends of the US met in New York while working in a record store. This is their first effort. On the B-Side, Men and Women invited friends Eliot Lipp (Mush, Eastern Developments) and Cousin Cole (Flagrant Fowl) to remix the title track. [...]

There's always a little streak of delight that curses through these veins when something new from the Flagrant Fowl camp drops in the inbox as Cousin Cole and Pocketknife are rare beasts of the blog in that they've upped their production game from straight up mashup club bangers to more considered gems (the Pocketknife Feist remix can carve a smile on even the darket day) Here Cousin Cole takes the shoegaze indietronicdisco of South America by fellow New York residents Men & Women and leads it down the [...]

Thank you Bennett, for your donation! You even included a little CD-r, which was totally unnecessary but much appreciated. Now I can use your money towards my first phone bill, or that new phono cartridge I have to order. All the 'Thank You' notes should be finished by this time next week, I hope...They'll all be mailed on the same day. After a week of film reviews (and no Top Ten, sorry!), today is going to be laid back and brief. It looks like a beautiful day outside, and I have to go to work, so here are [...]

While the impending Raster Norton boxset reissue of Wolfgang Voigt's monumental GAS series has given many professional music scribes the joy of brushing up on reading material from their favorite German Lit classes, it's in turn given me a stiff boner in my brain. Confluence, not Kant, is the password here. At what point do the forest and the ocean cease to be seen as different? Hearing GAS's Modern EP on the NJ domepike two winters back was lifechanging to say the least. Nevermind whatever elements might have been circulating in that [...]
