MEN at Terminal 5, 10.9.09 Friday night I unexpectedly ended up at Terminal 5 for Gossip , Apache Beat and MEN before heading over to The Museum of Natural History for Amanda Blank's gig later that night. I'd never seen any of the acts on the bill in concert before so it was exciting to see the show without any pretense or expectations. In this post I will discuss MEN and Apache Beat with a review of Gossip to follow. Brooklyn's five-piece band Apache Beat kicked off the night [...]

Our guest photographer, Andrea R., attended last night's DC gig and assures us that it was downright epic (it even included a brilliant cover of Tina Turner's 'What's Love Got To Do With It?'). Stream the full playback via NPR. On Tuesday, The Gossip dropped by Kimmel. Read my Q&A with Gossip here. View many more [...]
We have two tickets to give away to tomorrow night's Gossip , MEN , and Apache Beat show at the 9:30 Club. To win these tickets, leave a comment with the most indie, hip, clever one-word band name you can come up with. Let the games begin! Brief bios of the bands... Apache Beat is straight out of Brooklyn, NY. They've just finished recording their debut album with Martin Bisi and John Agnello (think Sonic Youth and The Kills ), and [...]

"After our kiss, Sean texted Madonna and said, 'I just popped my cherry kissing a guy. I thought of you. I don't know why.' " - James Franco Posted in Beats, Queen Of The Night, quote Tagged: franco, gay, james, kiss, madonna, men, penn, sean
I am a dad, and pretty busy, but after reading the snark-dumb of the recent Frisky article " 22 Things Women Can Teach Their Sons About Women and Relationships ", (is it 22 things per the title? 15 per the link title? 18 per the CNN title ? Come on ladies make up your mind!) I feel I would be remiss if I did not respond in kind. I know an awful lot about men and how to avoid irritating them, so I plan to pass that knowledge down to women in hopes that it will stem the flow, [...]

Here we have the new single, "Tropics", from the Brooklyn based Apache Beat . Produced by Martin Bisi (Sonic Youth, Afrika Bambataa) and mixed by John Agnello (The Kills, Sonic Youth, Andrew WK) it's a short, sharp slice of NYC indie. The band will also be on tour with The Gossip and MEN in October across the US, for anyone of that persuasion. Apache Beat - Tropics (Sendspace) J. X

The Men, also known as The Human League, was composed basically of 3 performers: Martyn Ware, Ian Craig Marsh and the better known Philip Oakey. In spring 1979, The men - I don't depend on you didn't make it to the charts, but the instrumental version The men - Cruel (instrumental) will manage to find some regular air playing in major cities in north america back in the days. This will open doors to the Human League will a more electronic sound as we're familiar now, produced by Martin Rushent who I [...]

A staple of the NYC hip-filled, dj/dance sweaty good times vibe is coming to an end tomorrow. Ruff Club is going out in a no-holds barred bash and if you're not there, then pffft on you! Will we see you there? I'd hope so, judging by the above line-up, ya dig? Free booze too. Win/Win! mp3: MEN - Off Our Backs (Jeppes Money is a Major Issue Remix)

Lately, I've found myself feeling bored with the crop of men in L.A. In all fairness, you're out there men, you're just gay. I don't live in West Hollywood anymore, which made it impossible to meet anyone at the local Trader Joe's. But since I moved to another part of the city (Miracle Mile) and I work in Santa Monica, I'm meeting tons of straight men. But the story doesn't end there. In the grand tradition of dating, there are 99 probems, but this bitch ain't one. It is with great frustration and vast experience I present to [...]

Glad to see some local names surfacing on the fashion platform. Qasimi is a young fashion desgner living in London. Tom Ford just hired himself again to be the spokesperson and model for her newest cologne Grey Vetiver. He's flawless, but it'd be nice if he hired someone new, like Ongina maybe? Anyway, his colognes and perfumes are always up to par. So, we only expect the best from this. He describes the fragrance as "the equivalent of the classic blue blazer, the beautiful watch, or the cap-toes shoe." Click below to see him model: Posted in Fash, Queen Of The Night, Yankee [...]
I'm sure you and I can come up with a more enticing song title than this one above, but you're gonna have to give Men the benefit of the doubt here, they're surprisingly pretty damn good.
There are few actual men involved with MEN, a Brooklyn-based side project of Le Tigre's JD Samson and Johanna Fateman. MEN is an art/performance collective (completed by Ginger Brooks Takahashi, Emily Roysdon and Michael O'Neill) that tackles issues—wartime economies, sexual compromise and demanding liberties—over danceable beats and catchy melodies. The band recently embarked on a [...]

Kylie Minogue venture into the world of smells have been so successful that she managed to release three different ones. First it was Darling then Showtime then Couture . Darling was so popular it came in two other versions: Sexy Darling and Sweet Darling . Now, she has moved on to the world or men's colognes to satisfy every gay heart on the planet. The cologne is called Inverse and it features her boyfriend Allure Sport model Andrés Velencoso on the ad campaign. And he's some [...]

Dear Pretty Much Amazing readers: A message from The Confluence . Read on for a remix goodie-bag. Every now and then, out of pure frustration and exhaustion comes an idea that is unique and inspiring. I'd like to introduce you to the lovely 823KEYPROJECT. It is pretty simple, after giving a friend of his who was having a tough time a skeleton key necklace he made, offering the well known catch phrase, "when one door closes, another opens," Trevor Hubbard thought everyone could use a key. 823KEYPROJECT launched two weeks later as a way for [...]

Men is two parts Le Tigre , and they will be making their way to Austin this Wednesday night at the Beauty Bar. It seems that the group is predominantly the work of JD Samson, but there are other contributions from her former band-mates. Men will be hitting the stage with Gretchen Phillips. Sounds like a danceable way to spend your hump day. Download: Men - Off Our Backs [MP3]
