There are a ton of blogs out there that I admire, but I have a huge crush on Flashlight Tag and Verb/Re/Verb . So when their collective label known as Absent Fever gave me the honor of premiering yet another single from an upcoming release of theirs, I was all sorts of excited. This time it comes by way of Caves, a talented 18-year-old producer out of Los Angeles that is spearheading his efforts with some rather intricate sample-based music. Trying his luck with The Menahan Street Band's "The Traitor", which was originally sampled by KiD CuDi [...]

This remix is too good. Menahan Street Band give the summer smash of last year a jazz club makeover. Just pure Autumn coolness here.

Cults has become one of those bands that almost seems too pristine to be remixed. But French music blog La 3e huere said it best: "When you keep the vintage dimension of their sound...". Precisely. You'll be allowed to finish that thought after you listen to these two mixes. This remix couldn't be a more perfect balance of legendary cool. What happens when you mix the Cults ' stir crazy track, "Go Outside" with the funky street vibe of the Menahan Street Band is you get a tune [...]
The final day of Outside Lands festival, arguably the best day of music of the three days, depending on who you talk to of course. On my schedule were 8 bands that I marked out the previous night, but as the day wore on and my feet became broken, that game plan changed, though I [...]

Hopefully in the future we will be able to go one a full week without putting up a Cults remix. Sadly, this is not that week. The latest " Go Outside " remix comes from established Jazz band, the Menahan Street Band . Their most famous work was "Make the Road by Walking" which would be transformed into Jay-Z's ode to the party life, "Roc Boys." They are on another stratosphere of talented. The remix puts the song into a Back to the Future-esque time machine, by incorporating some heavy and grounded backing through a predictably jazzy [...]
The cool thing about indie pop songs these days is that I've seen and heard more and more of them remixed. Although I don't consider Cults to be part of the "indie pop community," their song "Go Outside" has brought them to stardom in the sense songs such as "Postcards From Italy" did for Beirut. [...]

Charles Bradley - No Time For Dreaming MMMM 1/2 In the past decade, we've seen a resurgence of Motown and mid-'60s to early-'70s soul in popular music with the likes of Amy Winehouse, Joss Stone, Raphael Saadiq, and, of course, Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings. Out of that bunch, Jones and The Dap-Kings certainly have the most authenticity and deepest soul roots, truly capturing that old school sound. But 62 year-old Charles Bradley easily tops them all. It's [...]

I cannot believe that we missed out on these guys last year. Hailing from Brooklyn, 3 Titans team up with the Menahan Street Band on "Life of A Scholar", a smooth hip-hop track that starts off like Too $hort's "Short But Funky" then transitions into Jazzmatazz era Guru. Not bad for a trio of fifth-graders. You can purchase 3 Titans' 73 single over at Dunham Records . MP3: 3 Titans - The Life of a Scholar MP3: Menahan Street Band - Home Again! [...]
