With piano, drums, guitars, bells, and even multiple vocalists, this gem from Portland's Menomena somehow manages to sound both large and minimal at the same time. The classic tension/release dynamic is also well utilized, giving the track an irresistable appeal. (I mean, how do you beat that?). In the words of Dyanu, "It would have been enough." But beyond masterful packaging feats, Menomena put forth a flip-book with the accompaniment of an entire album-worth of indie-pop piano-bass-drums coolness. Menomena will be releasing their third album Friend and Foe on Barsuk Records on January 23rd, 2007 (they signed back in August). The experimental rock band consists of Brent Knopf on guitar, keyboards and glockenspiel, Justin harris on bass, guitar, baritone sax and alto sax, and Danny Seim on percussion, with all three doing a bit of singing.
