The Favorite: Spoon/Texas Though I think Memphis has this one locked up, I'm too much of a fan of Spoon to pick them. Go Longhorns! The Cinderella: Panda Bear/Oral Roberts I'm confident Panda Bear has enough spaced out layered sounds to disorient Interpol long enough to pull out a win. I know, I know. I just picked...Oral Roberts? Game To Watch: Bjork/Miss. State vs. Kanye West/Oregon The 8/9 match ups are usually the most exciting, and you can't deny that Bjork vs. Kanye West would be an ultimate throw down. Hopefully [...]
A friend recently aske me if I knew who was singing the song in the new Kia commercial, which reminded me that I had a few other commercials with music that I had wondered about. So, I looked them up, tracked down mp3's and I'm sharing them with you here today. I present the Thursday Commercial Music Mix (not to be a regular feature, and not a copy of Duke's Commercial Thursdays - I meant to put these up Wednesday but I was feeling a bit, er, sick). Joe Purdy - [...]
It would be utterly impossible for me to fully explain why I love music. Not enough words in the dictionary nor paper in the world. On top of that, I think my reasons are endless. Music can make us cry, give us chills, console us, enrage us, make us dance, and give us soundtracks by which to bone. But whatever way you slice it, music moves us. And I never feel this more than when I see a small child dance. It may sound corny, but watch the video and try not to smile. The following performance is from the [...]

I just found out from this looong list that the mucky old compost heap is in contention for a blog award. It's cool to see my blog on it, and big thanks if ya nominated me. So many of the other blogs on that list are great. There really is a bit of quality out there huh? I'm gonna go to that awards thingy and see what everybody look like in real life, see if its true that all bloggers have heads like dribbly, decomposing spuds. Random picture of brain-damaged pet... Okay, now that I've FINALLY wrapped up my list of favorite songs of 2007, it's time to talk about my favorite shows. I thought for a little bit about not doing this, but then I looked over the list of things I saw in 2007, and I realized that going to shows was pretty much my life last year. So I might as well write about it. In 2006, I saw a lot of shows too - without doing a good job keeping track, I think I ended up seeing 120 different bands and artists [...]

Sorry to all the regulars who stop by here. I've been slacking off with fewer and fewer posts and then last Wednesday was stricken with two, count 'em, TWO , kidney stones. And... I'VE STILL GOT 'EM! viarosa blood from a stone harlem shakes felt wings disco 5000 (old demo) christine fellows phantom pains [...]

We're well on our way into this new year, and as most resolutions go, I've already broken one of mine. For someone that made a resolution to post more, I'm certainly sucking up this year a bit early. Oh well, I've got sometime to fix that, and I can start right here with my favorite albums from 2007. Seeing as 5 seems to be the number being thrown around, I went ahead and jumbled through for five albums I really enjoyed last year. Not a ranking mind you, and to prove that even more, I went ahead and just stuck [...]
Now that the holidays are over, the regular Friday mixes are back. This is also the start of a new semester back at school for many of us, so let's have one last party before we head back to the grind. Enjoy! MGMT - Time to Pretend Menomena - Rotten Hell Skatebård - Data Italia Tokyo Police Club - Be Good (RAC Remix) Neutral Milk Hotel - Hotel, 1945 Rogue Wave - Like I Needed [...]
2007 was a great year for music. New albums from Radiohead, Interpol, The National, Andrew Bird, Okkervil River, and Spoon all rocked hard. My discovery of The Acorn, Kings of Leon, The Everybodyfields, and Menomena, coupled with an impressive debut from Deer Tick, made the year that much ...

Hey, what's up. When end-of-the-year lists come to mind, I can only remember last year--the year when I slaved my ass over seventy-something albums months before Christmastime even came around. I didn't do that this year, thank god. Actually, I never really thought about these lists until about a week or two ago, and it wasn't until yesterday when I really sat down and wrote some stuff down. So here it is--I'm confident in my choices, I'm indebted to this music forever, and I thank you all for still reading even when I'm not here [...]
Part two in the "20 in 07" series. Here are the songs that I most enjoyed this year. 20 MP3: Loney Dear - I Am John I almost forgot that this tune came out in America in 2007. Something about the song's fast tempo makes me think of that kid's movie ...

MP3: The Walkmen - "New Year's Eve" MP3: Starlight Mints - "Sugar Blaster" MP3: Sophie Ellis-Bextor - "Catch You" MP3: Menomena - "My My" MP3: Jay-Z - "Roc Boys (And the Winner Is...)" MP3: Eat Sugar - "I'm a Carrier" 2007 MusicWarship . All Rights Reserved. .

Every list is subjective, and while these are probably not the "best" 5 songs of the year, they continuously found their way into my playlist in 2007. Some of them made our Top 50 Albums of 2007 and some didn't, but all are awesome. In no particular order, here are my Top 5 Songs of 2007. Bon Iver - "Skinny Love" While this disc made the "Top XX" of several blog lists, I just really can't get past this one song to listen to the rest of [...]
#1 - Boxer The National | myspace | Beggars Banquet | takeaway shows | buy In 2007, The National's 'Boxer' stands as a monumental piece of work - a masterpiece if you will. It is an understated yet fierce look into the lives of many that dwell in the big cities, where the sense of alienation and disconnection runs deep. Berninger's lyrics and the way he delivers them sets a sombre tone, and draws you into a world of lost loves and past [...]
Photo by David Greenwald Like the albums list, this is divided into the ranked, remarkably great stuff and the unranked, still really great stuff. Enjoy the last post of '07, folks - The Rawking will continue refusing to stop bright and early on Monday, January 7. The full list and MP3s galore after the jump! [Continue reading...] 1. UGK ft. Outkast - "Int'l Players Anthem (I Choose You)" : mp3 2. LCD Soundsystem - "All My Friends" : [...]
We'll keep this brief because you've probably tired of the ever growing year end list. We're getting fatigued as well just trying to keep up and trying to sort stuff out as well. Seems every time we come across another list there is always something there to remind us of what we loved in 2007. We narrowed our fav songs down to 20! Yes 20! From an initial list of about 100 and still we're not quite happy with it. Wish we had more time, but time is something we just don't have. [...]
From the desk of Jordan Sowards , Semiregular guest blogger Best of 2007—walk in the dang ol' park, right? That's what I thought, anyway. Especially after seeing the leviathan list of Jackson, the ursine overachiever. I was all, "Whoa, 20? What a freak! Mine's only gonna be ten for sure!" My apologies, Gentle Jackson. For those of you who have peeked ahead, you'll know I was kidding myself to think I could ever be prevailed upon to pare my list down to an "Alabama graduate's dozen." No way, Jose. So what you're getting [...]
