When 2013 does eventually expire, under the musical banner of its bulging annals will surely be inscribed the words: ' australia ' ' dream pop ' ' shoegaze '. As is on Bandcamp, there will be no punctuation; little further relevant information, even. But rest assured, those three facets will remain key factors in our appraising of the year that was and will then rest in peace – safeguarded by demise from the vehement squalls of pedalboard manipulation, and so forth. And so it this afternoon comes to pass that we inform of Glaciers , a Melbourne four-piece [...]

There isn't a bigger music event in California than the Coachella Music and Arts Festival. This year's Coachella event draws big interest from music lovers as it packs some of the biggest names in music headlining the show: Kings of Leon, Arcade Fire, The Strokes, and Kanye West. Other bands and artists set to perform include Interpol, Mumford & Sons, The National, and Eliza Doolittle (I just had to) among others. You might not know every band or artist playing, so everyday until Coachella (April 15-17), we will be bringing music from one band/artist who will be performing [...]

I have considered dedicating this post to NOT blogging about Cut Copy's long awaited comback single Where I'm Going. Regardless of the hype surrounding its release, when Cut Copy came into the spotlight four or five years ago, it was because they had successfully developed a sound which incorporated electro/dance music with real instruments. They were pioneers. So I guess the bar was set impossibly high from the start, and their latest efforts really fail to sound like anything different to every other indie electro band [...]
Contrary to popular belief, Australia does have more to it than beautiful beaches, gorgeous women, and succulent shrimp. Some of todays most popular electronic music artists, including the very well known Empire of the Sun, come from the worlds smallest continent. Formerly a land populated by thieves, Australia has stolen the spotlight with artists such as PNAU, Moonchild, Aston Shuffle, and my personal favorite, Cut Copy. Empire of the Sun: Okay we've all heard of these guys. They're tight as hell and their album "Walking on a Dream" has spawned some of the best single in the last [...]

Sam Baker has a backstory as riveting, tragic, and inspiring as anyone out there in the music industry. While most critical writing could focus solely on his near death experience when a bomb exploded on his bus in Peru, it doesn't need to, because Sam Baker's music is so excellent. After nearly losing his hearing in the explosion, and learning to write songs while bedridden, Baker has just appeared fully formed on the songwriting circuit like some apparition. He has three albums to his name, the first, Mercy , was released in 2004 and his most recent, [...]

CANVAS KITES - Wayside With Sydney's Mercy Arms currently on 'hiatus', here's something v. short and v. pretty from singer Thom Moore's new band, Canvas Kites. To these ears it sounds quite Shins-ish - and I don't want to freak anyone out, but The Shins began as a side project too. myspace.com/canvaskites

Sydney's Canvas Kites have emerged from the ruins of Hyperbole favourites Mercy Arms, who called it quits earlier this year despite just releasing a positively fantastic debut album. Thankfully, Canvas Kites manage to keep the departed-Mercies spirit alive with their jangly indie schtick in tact and Thom Moore's floaty vocals still residing front and centre. But this isn't just a rehash of the old formula, Canvas Kites steer towards a sunnier, more relaxed style and it definitely works. Hopefully this is just the start of things to come. [...]

I love music. I. Love. Music. So. Much. How perfect is Kept Low's bridge? It's so beautiful that nobody dares to step on it; forget the opposite side. What possible good can come from decimating a bridge so beautiful? All right, crappy jokes aside. Pure bliss is this track, I promise. Mercy Arms - Kept Low (Cut Copy remix) [ ZS ]

Fashion Launches Rocket Launches is more an artistic statement than a band. It combines theatre, tribal riddims and improvisation in one of the most exciting musical projects to crop up in Sydney for some time. Originally a side project between the Midnight Juggernauts , Lost Valentinos and Mercy Arms , over two years it has developed into an indie establishment away from the glamour of commercial acceptance. But with these trend-setting bands already drenched by heavy radio play, international followings and multi-continent tours [...]

After only a few short years (3 pretty much), Australia's Mercy Arms have broken up due to artistic differences or some shit. i guess they just didn't 'get' each other. They played in the Gong last year at the oxford but i didn't go... So lets look back fondly on what was a stellar career kept low (cut copy remix) - Mercy Arms . .. ... .... ..... [...]

Another hit from the vault. This one still gives me chills. Mercy Arms - Kept Low (Cut Copy Remix) MYSPACE

Alright. Since I saw you last, we've been blessed with a beautiful baby girl and two major surgeries that seem to have my son pointed in the right direction healthwise. It's been an insanely busy and emotionally rollercoastery time. There hasn't been much time for much music, but here are the tunes that have kept my brain sane and ears entertained (sans commentary this time around). 01 - The Answering Machine - " Another City, Another Sorry ". 02 [...]

O primeiro disco saiu no meio do ano passado, chamado "Kept Low". A banda é excelente, criativa e busca inovar. Tenham um pouco de paciência com [...]
Was writhing yesterday but couldn't resist it today. O'boy do we have some music today. Hate Mondays just as much as most of us so this will be a good start. After the Yo Majesty collaboration way back in Hit The Bit Lorenz Rhode is back with something that instantly attracted me. Lorenz Rhode - Tronic Matic Lorenz Rhode - A Little Something To me it [...]

I've been putting this off every day, because although I love doing lists, I also hate doing them. It's always final. Once it's made you can't really change it without devaluing it. So I tried to wait until the end when there was nothing left of the year and no last minute surprises to sneak in. And now the dust has well and truly settled on 2008, I think I'm ready. I'm doing three this year, albums, songs and remixes (plus some other '08 wraps), so I hope you like 'em all. I guess, it's my list, you've probably got [...]

We love Australia, and Mercy Arms is a shoegaze indie band from Sydney, Australia who just recently dropped their album a few months back and started touring with Cut Copy. Their stuff is very melodic and mixes a bunch of different styles all-together. Apparently their live show is kick-ass and ...

2008 has been a pretty mediocre year for music, there have been a few stand-out albums and remixes, but nothing to the magnitude of 2007. In my opinion, Cut Copy has easily taken the cake for best album as well as best remix of the year. I won't get into all that right now, as that is the primary contents of my "best of" post. However, I will say that I'm pumped as shit to be seeing them in Chicago this coming March. Also, I'd like to apologize for being a milli blog years behind on [...]
