Denver's 25-year-old bedroom electronic artist James Cooley, better known as Mesita , follows up last year's excellent The Coyote LP with another promising four-track EP called XYXY , self-released and available at a price of your choosing . Here's a standout track, "Kingston", overflowing with percolating instrumental loops and head-spinning vocal entwinements » Follow Mesita on Facebook and Tumblr for the latest.

"This is a weight that needed to be lifted. I was just spinning the tires" is the beginning of an emotional sentiment from James ( Mesita ) for his latest EP offering. His artistry is louder, telling his listeners that these songs are needing to be released first in order for him to feel free of the ‘baggage’ and forge ahead to make the album he so vividly envisions. XYXY is yet another superb addition to his impressive discography. A carriage of light and airy-piano carries his beautiful falsetto in ‘Alone Is OK’ leading into [...]

Words by Tom Johnson Mesita's firm under-the-radar stance is a continued frustration. It's not that he's under-appreciated at all - his fan-base is a dedicated and expanding one - but the annoyance exists because he's an artist that could, and should, reach a far wider audience. His short, but bountiful career has produced a seemingly endless collection of smart, varied and wonderfully diverse pop music. He's one of those artists who you genuinely feel is only one tiny slice-of-luck away from from cross-over success. These frustrations are, of course, all [...]

This track dropped in the inbox while I was away and I flagged it immediately. I had checked it out while I was out and about and wanted to make sure I didn't miss it in the deluge of mail I had to sort through after 6 days away. Mesita is the project of 25 year old Colorado native James Cooley. He says that "Kingston" is to be featured on a yet to be released future album called Future Proof . The track is pretty killer, with blissful sounds and interesting electronic noises meeting slightly more reserved lyricism. [...]
Whether organic electronica or electronic organica, there's much fruitful hybridity bubbling about at the minute and whether Brad Weber's Pick a Piper or James Cooley's Mesita , it's by and large bloody invigorating stuff. Kingston, the first I've personally heard of Colorado native Cooley and his first in a few months makes for an almost unfeasibly accomplished introduction and as he initially chimes of feeling bitter; distant; vacant in an impeccable croon not dissimilar to that of a given Justin Vernon, he pretty incontrovertibly gets off on the right foot. Though it's once his musical proficiency is [...]

Mesita will return this year with a new album called Future Proof , and naturally we're all really very excited about that. It's been a while since we heard something from him (three months to be exact, when he dropped " Hostages ") but he's back now with a new track called "Kingston." Like his previous songs from his upcoming album, there's a notable presence of pianos and texture, and the whole thing plays out like the artwork which is above: glassy and shimmering in the light, but through it can can see through to [...]

As an unrequired apology for not having delivered his new album, Future Proof , Mesita (aka James Cooley) has offered his fans and listeners an acoustic take of one of his tracks. "Living/Breathing" is stripped down of all it's endlessly magical fanfare, having it resemble the original version her released years back ( which reached number 29 in our favourite tracks from 2010 ), not long before it became the title track to his brilliant EP . Long-time fans might also recall that this isn't the first time Cooley has stripped the song down, as back in 2009 [...]

Before I took over, per the norm, host Chef Stuarto brought me on air to discuss the coming show. He asked if there was a highlight track I wanted to talk about. The discussion centered around the first track I would play that evening - Jacco Gardner's "The Ballad of Little Jane", which I likened to a modern rendition of The Beattles' later-era. You can read more about my thoughts by clicking the link below. But really, one of the most notable, poignant tracks of the playlist is the [...]

The ethereal and evocative sounds of Mesita , aka James Cooley, have been captivating my eardrums since he first introduced me to his music almost a year ago. "Hostages" is a great example of how Mesita refuses to restrain, to withhold emotions and sounds. He describes the song as one "about feeling frozen, paranoid, absolutely scared of yourself. You can't tell a single person or else you think the truth will spread in minutes and the life you had is ruined." This translates beautifully to the captviating tension heard throughout "Hostages", with Cooley's voice producing a believable [...]

Having been a fan of Mesita since I first heard "For The Best" in early 2011, I was pleasantly shocked to hear the electro-soul of "XYXY", the first single off his upcoming album Future Proof . Né James Cooley, Mesita continues to pursue this new style on his latest track, "Hostages." According to the Colorado artist, the song is "about feeling frozen, paranoid, and absolutely scared of yourself." The lyrical content translates beautifully into the music as the lead piano line is interrupted by static and sporadic percussion. It all swells up into [...]
Colorado based musician Mesita (aka James Cooley) premiered a new track off his upcoming LP Future Proof last night, and it definitely feels inspired by How To Dress Well. However, the overall feel of the track is slightly more optimistic than anything you'll find on Total Loss , with the orchestration similar to that of Efterklang. "don't say a word and nobody gets hurt" It's a great track and you can hear it below.

After releasing the soul-bearing " XYXY ," Mesita returns with another equally splendid single from his upcoming album Future Proof . "Hostages" is an intriguing composition, a mix of gorgeous, distant keys and kinetic, sporadic drums. The sum ebbs and flows with haunting energy, breaking for a big chorus and ultimately boiling up to a percussive, wordless climax before fading away. It's an entrancing three and a half minutes that bodes well for Future Proof . ( Beats Per Minute )

Busy as ever to make music for his listeners (who are always happy to receive it), James Cooley - aka Mesita - has released a second single from his upcoming new album, Future Proof . "Hostages" follows on from " XYXY " with plenty of gentle piano lines over his erratic drum bursts, all tied together with another dose of heartbreak with lyrics that'll pass you by at first, but hit you hard next time round. Have a listen to "Hostages" below.
