Eighties-synth loving Swedes Shout Out Louds are touring the fun new album Optica with a stop at Metro Thursday night. I predict there will be dancing. Also check out this cool remix of the single from the album, Illusions .
Black Moth Super Rainbow showed it could make music with a lot more bite on the band's 2012 album, Cobra Juicy . You can see these guys at Metro Saturday night. Also, check out this fan video pairing Gangs in the Garden with Bruce Lee's Enter the Dragon.
The Canadian duo known as Majical Cloudz just shared this sparse, captivating song, Bugs Don't Buzz , ahead of the album Impersonator , which is out May 21. Majical Cloudz open for Youth Lagoon at Metro May 15. [...]

It's been a while since we've heard from Mike Golden & Friends on RubyHornet. Mike hit us with a new track " Keep Movin' " after a year long hiatus on new music. You might remember Mike from his collabs with Rockie Fresh, YP and ProbCause, a few RH regulars. Since MG&F first official release, "Groceries", I've been a fan of their music and especially their live performances. MG&F has kept busy playing college campuses and venues like the House of Blues and The Metro in Chicago. Since it's release, "Keep Movin' [...]
I spoke to Justice and Metro (check at end for respective bios) about the Oxymoron release on Mjazz and asked about the title... why oxymoronic? J&M: Dark and light, bitter sweet music,... [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my website for full links, other content, and more! ]]
Tomorrow night sparks an intense month of live music, as some of the artists who have released new albums in 2013 begin to embark on tours. There's a lot of them, but one of the most notable groups is Ra Ra Riot, who are on a nationwide tour supporting Beta Love which was released last month (check out FPT 's review of the album here). I've never seen RRR live before, and it is to my chagrin to admit that I've had plenty of opportunities to do so. I'm intrigued to see what the [...]
Hot Water Music , a band that initially formed in the early '90s, plays a Metro 30th anniversary show Thursday. The all-ages show is sold out.

Prior to Tuesday night's Yeah Yeah Yeahs show at the Metro, I had not seen the New York trio since 2004. Eight and a half years ago. 1. I am old. 2. That is a LONG time between shows. It's not like the band haven't been active in that time, just bad timing on my part (whenever they were in Australia I was in Canada on a holiday). Despite the years, I still had incredible memories of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs live experience from the two shows I saw when they were supporting [...]

No, Chicago music festivals don't cease when winter arrives. They simply move indoors as proved by last weekend's the fourth annual Psych Fest and Tomorrow Never Knows 2013, which kicks off on Wednesday night. If you're new to Chicago, Tomorrow Never Knows is a five-day, multi-club event that brings together top indie pop and rock talent from both the national and local scene. This year, TNK goes down at Lincoln Hall, Schubas, The Hideout, Metro, Smart Bar and the Vic. A few big names have joined the fold including Bear In Heaven, Born Ruffians [...]

I wasn’t a fan of of Montreal until a friend gave me a cassette tape of False Priest . I was driving an Oldsmobile without a CD player at the time and aside from a mix of polka songs I inherited with the car, it was the only cassette tape I had so I listened to it nonstop. When I heard they would be in Chicago on December 9 at the Metro , I jumped on the chance to see them without so much as checking who the opening bands would be. [...]

Seems like a great weekend to be distracted by some great local music. We're talking ON AN ON at Schubas, Outer Minds at the Empty Bottle and more. Buckle up... FRIDAY ON AN ON Rising from the ashes of the recently disbanded Scattered Trees is the group ON AN ON. Made up of three members (Nate Eiesland, Allisa Ricci, and Ryne Estwing) from the aforementioned [...]

Nostalgic Futurisms LP - Various Artists (MJAZZLP09) As we draw nearer to the holidays, contrary to my words last week, things are starting to wind down in the world of drum and bass music. After a flurry of releases last, this week is comparatively quiet. There are a few bits knocking around though. Lynx makes his return to Soul:r after some time doing his own thing (more on that in the next week or so) and the northern trio of Sato, Phobia and Tyrone under their Chroma guise, hit the big [...]

Australia's Tame Impala is playing a sold-out show Tuesday night at Metro . My guess is these guys will be playing a much larger venue when they return to Chicago for another gig. Check out the band's website and you'll see a number of sold-out shows. Tame Impala's latest album, Lonerism , was just released last month. Here's a just-released video of Feels Like We Only Go Backwards from the album.
