swoon

Shockingly perfect vocals, sweet banter and a clearly riveted crowd make these selections from Mew's 2005 Christmas performance in Nagoya, Japan a must-have for anyone interested in And The Glass Handed Kites era of this Denmark band's songwriting career. Mew: Comforting Sounds (Live in Japan) Mew: Fear Me December (Live in Japan) Mew: She Spider (Live in Japan) [...]
Oh prog, how you've been wronged. Much like "emo" or "tour de force," "prog" is the currently over used term for any sound that isn't in perfect 4/4 order. FYI - prog is short for Progressive, and usually written as Prog-Rock. The term makes little sense. Who doesn't want to be progressive? Unless you're a 80's metal band (I'm talking to you Metal Skool), every songwriter is looking to add

I'm out of town in San Antonio for work all week. Therefore, things might be a bit different around EAR FARM this week. Who knows...remains to be seen. If things falls behind, keep checking back as I plan to continue with everything in a normal manner. If, for some reason, that's not possible, regular EF will resume Saturday September 2nd. Anyway, let's get on with today's ( Elbo.ws ) countdown conundrum. Elbo.ws top 10 'hot' artists - 28 August 2006 @ 9am EST [...]

Every day Elbo.ws keeps track of which bands are being discussed the most and displays the results as the elbo.ws Top 10 Artists. If an artist is being blogged about enough to be in the Top 10 then they must be worthy of merit, so every Sunday I'll try to pick one song from each of the Top 10 artists and post them here for you to check out. *If an artist remains in the Top 10 for consecutive weeks I will insert an alternate artist or song that deserves a listen, to insure that [...]
So, i'm sure you're all wondering about Lowlands.... No? ah, well that's tough cos i'm giving you a run down anyway.... Who Was Good: Mew were the first band I caught, and were far far better than the slightly disappointing show last time I saw them. Jonas' voice is quite extraordinary, and their style of Prog rock is ideally suited to listening outdoors with a bag of Super Silver Haze. They
Just a quick post today. Work is as hectic as a smoke bomb, and I’m leaving early to catch the Format in Seattle tonight with Tyler and Pete . I would imagine some tear a label, tell a fable type activities will follow after the show. The Format â€" remember those guys? We do . Time bomb is one addictive song, and the rest of the Dog Problems album is just as enjoyable. Finally, the Bloc (Party) is coming back to Vancouver. [...]

The Roots Next to Fridays and the weekend, of course. There's just something about Wednesday that just...gets to me. The Wednesday air...the Wednesday breakfast...I'm weird, I know. I'll just stop talking now. I do have some good stuff for you today, so maybe that's why I'm so ecstatic: The Rich Girls Are Weeping has a bunch of rare Final Fantasy . Discobelle has a couple versions of "Young Folks", the summer favorite by Peter Bjorn & John . [...]

By reading this blog, and this post in particular, you'd probably get the feeling that I have some kind of deep love for Sunny Day Real Estate, but the reality is, I totally don't. I obsessed about Diary for the length of exactly one summer - one which happened to be like 8 years after the album's release. I could never get intrigued by the whole "the singer's christian and he's breaking up the band but now he's not anymore and the band is back together but only kind of and this time they're calling it The Fire [...]
Once again, in no particular order. . . There's just something about female singers called Sarah, don't you think? In addition to the lovely Sarah Blasko and Sarah McLachlan, here's Sarah Slean, a singer-songwriter hailing from Canada with a voice as sweet as - you guessed it - maple syrup. Besides music, Sarah Slean also dabbles in poetry, which you can read on her blog , as well as painting and photography. Random trivia: Her middle name is 'Hope'. Sarah Slean - Universe Sarah Slean - Angel [...]
Just some new I thought people in Vancouver might like:: Thur Nov 9- BONNIE PRINCE BILLY - ST. JAMES HALL Fri Nov 10 - BONNIE PRINCE BILLY - ST. JAMES HALL Read our review of the album here . Mew visited the AOL Interface. Gorilla vs. Bear has the lovely acoustical version of the Zookeeper's Boy . We talked to Jonas. He talked about that specific song. Read it here . [...]
So I had planned to do a post on Mew today, but it seems like the rest of the blogosphere beat me to it. So go read up ion them atthe following places: - Mew on AOL's The Interface podcast. The group performs live in the studio and there is also an interview. - Culture Bully has the Interface broken down as MP3's . - Chromewaves on Mew , with some downloads for you. - GVB on Mew . Honestly I can't decide if [...]

When I went on my Scandanavian theme week back in mid- May , I was a little confounded about how I came up empty for decent or interesting Danish bands. I mean, I didn't look THAT hard, but certainly couldn't think of any I wanted to write about off the top of my head. First off, I have to confess that their famously awful album art kept me from listening to Mew's And the Glass Handed Kites for... I [...]

I've been really digging the new Mew album. I'm not sure if I had posted this track before, I guess I can look but where is the fun in that. Anyway I became aware via Stereogum that Mew did an AOL session performance of some of their songs. Among them, one of my favorite songs of the year, Zookeepers Boy. I was going to chop the whole performance into single tracks and the behold Culture Bully did this already. Saves me some work. Mews [...]

Mew Mew was the latest guest in AOL's excellent The Interface series. The band performed 4 songs, including a beautiful acoustic rendition of "The Zookeeper's Boy." If you're unfamiliar with Mew, AOL says they " sound sort of like Sigur Ros covering Sunny Day Real Estate ," which isn't the worst description I've ever heard. Download the entire performance: Mew Live on AOL's The Interface mp3 Culture [...]
Despite learning that through The Interface that the band's relationship with J Masic started when they bumped into him at a Danish record store, the performance comes off as almost a little flat. Something's got to give when a band that is hooked on electric loses its watts, but still...so-so. Hard to say [...]
The Interface on AOL Music features the Danish quartet Mew this week. They're out promoting their new album And The Glass Handed Kites . Say what you want about AOL, but this Interface thing they have been doing is simply fab. Download the podcast Bonus: Mew - Why Are You Looking Grave (ft. J. Mascis of Dinosaur Jr.)
When comparing Mew to its contemporaries, the Danish quartet findx little similarity within the given realm of modern rock music. And the Glass Handed Kites serves as somewhat of a rock opera in which its characters appear then vanish quickly, only to reappear in its later stages in an entirely different form. It’s main roles [...]
