Mew: "Why Are You Looking Grave" Melodo-indie-prog-rock-xylopho nes-distortion-pianos-shoegaze r- vocals-sometimes-metal-usually -in-less-than-four-minute-song s...or whatever it's called this month. Mew . Wow. Mew's Mew And The Glass Handed Kites is one of the freshest, most unexpected blasts of rock I've heard this year. Gotta listen from start to finish. Don't dare put it on shuffle or throw a song in a playlist. First to last, that's the only way to enjoy this. (Sorry, I won't post the [...]
I haven't seen Superman , but I'm sure this song is in it. It's in that scene where Lois is in trouble. Early on, where the mischief (or worse) is either only peripherally, or entirely un-, related to the central villain. 0:00 - 0:24, Dirty, stabby, rock guitars. Lois is threatened by roughnecks. 0:24 - 0:49, Dreamy keys. Clark senses danger, enters phone booth, and exits as Superman. He takes off. 0:49 - 1:05, Soaring falsetto chorus. Superman arrives and battles the roughnecks. The outcome is certain. Probably throwing one of [...]
Turns out Under Byen isn’t the only Band to Watch from Denmark. Meet Mew, the latest Nordic-export-cum-blogger-fave . Driving tom-tom crescendos and dramatic, soaring vocal-and-piano lines recall Sigur Rós, but it's the prog-influenced drum-bass hookups and quick-turning passages that make Mew...
I've heard a little bit of buzz around the band Mew recently, and I have to say that it is very much deserved. A few months ago on a whim I decided to check out Mew's "The Zookeeper's Boy EP," mostly because it caught my eye and I thought it might be interesting. It turned out to be incredibly interesting, to the point where I eagerly waited in anticipation for the band's full length. That day came this past Tuesday, when "And the Glass Handed Kites" came out here in the US. It turns out that the band's EP was [...]

Listage: Ten things about last night's Mew show at Hiro Ballroom: Mew are apparently huge in Denmark, though I guess that's like being huge in West Virginia. Still, it is surprising that their fourth album, And the Glass-Handed Kites , is their first to get US distribution. It's predecessor, Frengers , really should have… it's the real winner in their discography. It was also their first-ever US show. The guitarist looked exactly like Sean Patrick Flannery . I am [...]

Although apparently released overseas in the later part of last year, I didn’t even know about Mew or their album And the Glass Handed Kites up until about a week ago. Thankfully though my newfound interest in the band came at the right time, as the album will see a release in the US on July 26th. And just by listening to it a couple times through, I will tell you right now that I am thoroughly impressed by this. Ignore the less than appealing [...]

Well, it's finally here. Italy vs. France. The big game. I have my money on France, but I really don't know because Italy's goalkeeper hasn't let a goal slip by in a looong time. Man, this is a tough one. I say France wins 2-1 on a penalty kick. Well, here's some songs to play during the game: Intimate Secretary - The Raconteurs Ambulance (Live Acapella) - TV On The Radio Jason - Sufjan Stevens [...]
:: MP3 :: Brasil perdeu de novo, o que já era esperado por muitos. Só que ninguém queria acreditar! Enfim, isso que dá pagar milhões pros caras... Sem muitas voltas, vamos ao ponto. Meu novo emprego me consome demais!

I don't want a day to go by without throwing some new music in your direction, as I've been pretty lazy today. Denmark's Mew bring the rock in epic proportions, but they are keen enough to add a bit of style and nuance for a blend that isn't far off from The Mars Volta , Muse or My Bloody Valentine . Look for their first Stateside release, And The Glass Handed Kites , on July 25th through Columbia which features J. Mascis singing on "Why Are You Looking So Grave?" [...]
Mew is a band that I don't know why I havn't posted yet. How can I explain them to you... well it's rock that seems precise to me. Their Myspace says Experimental / Indie / Rock which is better than what I just told you. I only have their 2003 release Frengers album which I enjoy thoroughly. It's hard to find info on these guys yet I'm pretty sure they are from Denmark. They recently released a new album And the Glass Handed Kites which I hope to get a hold of soon. They [...]
