So in honor of my impending trip to the great city of Paris **insert an expletive of the "OMFG-IM-GOING-TO-EXPLODE-WITH -EXCITMENT" variety here** I've been listening to a lot of French music lately. And not just bands from France... but bands with songs in French. So if you find a language barrier a factor in your enjoyment [...]
This somewhat short list has a few groups more than worthy of a preview and possible buy, starting with Radiohead and weaving to Mayer Hawthorne? Yeah, this week has it in a hidden capacity. Radiohead 's TKOL RMX 1234567 (The King of Limbs Remix 1-7) adds to the fantastic reworked songs throughout the past decade and a half from the group. Expect some crazy beats that beat out the original album's tracks. The duo of MGMT return with Late Night Tales. While Congratulations from last year didn't really [...]
Click image to download full album Song: Justice - Cannon "Justice - Cannon" What's so good? The world is eagerly awaiting Justice's upcoming album Audio, Video, Disco , set to be released on October 25th of this month. Only thing is, virtually half of the songs have leaked by this point. Okay, maybe not fully half, but we've covered " Helix ," " Audio, Video, Disco ," and " Civilization ." That brings the total count to [...]

After MGMT's massive middle finger (aka Congratulations ) to frat boys and top 40 girls who made up the majority of their fan base, the band has been in a mode of hibernation. Whether the hiatus can be credited to musical reinvention or some sort of infinite drug trip is a bit up in the air. However, today we see the first signs of life in the form of curating the most recent edition of the LateNightTales compilation. In a lot ways, after listening to the album, you get a better understanding of Congratulations or at least [...]

Well how hip is the Guggenheim Museum in NYC these days? Seems they have booked none other than MGMT for two dates, one as the 2011 Guggenheim International Gala After-Party band on (11/10), and the other for the next night, 11/11 for the general public. Museum members will have a presale on 10/13 and 10/14, with member pre-sale codes announced via e-mail on 10/13. "More details to be announced soon," says the info page . They even include a contact email and phone number there as well. I hope they [...]
Last week, we reported that Late Night With Jimmy Fallon was running a week-long tribute to Pink Floyd (coinciding with the reissue of Pink Floyd's catalog). The tribute featured some top rock bands performing Floyd covers on the show. Missed the performances? Watch all of them below! The Shins - 'Breathe' The Shins brought their new lineup to Fallon for this fairly straightforward cover of Dark Side Of The Moon highlight 'Breathe'. No, they don't play 'On The Run' after. [...]

For some exciting reason, it's Pink Floyd week on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon , the indiest of late night shows. Brooklyn psychedelic popsters MGMT took advantage of the occasion to bring to Fallon's stage epic fog machine, a plethora of bubbles, a possibly Life Aquatic -inspired yellow jumpsuit and beanie hat dress code, Bradford Cox of Atlas Sound and Deerhunter (in full Joey Ramone regalia) on tapes, and Floyd's "Lucifer Sam." Pennsylvanian-born entrepreneur and philanthropist Solomon R. Guggenheim was no doubt an insightful, cultured human being in his days. But, it's highly unlikely he had the proper foresight to know his museum - New York City's Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum - would play host to quite an assortment of modern-day pop culture events: Isaac Davis' and Mary Wilkie's infamous meet up (1979), Detective James Edwards' legendary alien shake-down (1997), the enviable view from Paul Allen's Central Park apartment (2000), and MGMT's dazzling autumnal performance (2011). That last one hasn't happened yet, but you could be a part of it. On [...]

Jimmy Fallon hosted Pink Floyd week on his late night show, and invited a few musician guests to play tributes. If you're a fan of the psychedelic band, hopefully these covers are to your liking. The Shins did a loyal rendition of Dark Side of the Moon classic "Breathe" while MGMT played a Syd Barrett-era track "Lucifer Sam," going all out with fog and bubbles. Find both recordings below: P.S. MGMT also did a great cover of Bauhaus' "All We Ever Wanted Was Everything" for the LateNightTales comp. [...]
Don't click on this video, unless you want to fall the eff asleep. Staying true to their latest album 'Congratulations', their performance was a let-down, uninteresting, and uninspired. They must have received a paycheck or something, because these days 'non-album cycle late night performances' just mean that ur desperate for blog press. At least they put on kewl costumes. I guess that's what we expected from MGMT , right? We just want them to 'get their Of Montreal' on, and put on some zany yet boring festival show? What a letdown. I really hope they can [...]

Pink Floyd Week rolls on and MGMT stopped by Late Night with Jimmy Fallon last night to play "Lucifer Sam" off The Piper at the Gates of Dawn .

We saw The Shins take on Pink Floyd for Jimmy Fallon's weeklong celebration of the classic band. Now it's MGMT 's turn, and they get some help from Bradford Cox, the lead singer of Deerhunter. MGMT is no stranger to getting psychedelic, but a Pink Floyd cover? With Bradford Cox? And bubbles? Oh, and to top it all off, MGMT dressed up in fisherman gear, and Bradford decided to come as Joey Ramone. What percentage of people in the room do you think were on acid? Hit the jump to watch...

I fall more into Team Gilmour than Team Barrett when it comes to Pink Floyd leadmen so Piper At The Gates of Dawn isn't my favorite album but MGMT really nail it on this one. MGMT - "Lucifer Sam" (Pink Floyd Cover) Here is how the week has unfolded so far and who's next Monday - The Shins performing "Breathe" from Dark Side Of The Moon Tuesday - Foo Fighters w/ Roger Waters performing "In [...]
