M.I.A. has never been one to go by the rules, which maybe explains her decision to premiere the video for "Bad Girls" simultaneously with Madonna's new video, which features appearances by both Maya and Nicki Minaj. M.I.A. is having a big day. Firstly, she released this absolutely bad ass video for her new single "Bad Girls". The clip was directed by Romain Gavras, who also helmed the controversial "Born Free" video in 2010. The single, which finds her back in pre- Maya form, is out now on Interscope. M.I.A. also had another video premiere today; her appearance on the new Madonna single "Give Me All Your Luvin'", which also features Nicki Minaj. You can see that video and hear the track after the break.

These days, many pop songs feature rap cameos from 'brown people.' It is a common strategy to try to piggyback into the headphones of tweens and Middle Americans who otherwise wouldn't have known you. Anyways, M.I.A. always tries to act like she is some authentic, anti-American activist, but now she's playing the sambo in this new Madonna video. She dresses up like a cheerleader, and like a Marilyn Monroe/Madonna figure. So uncomfortable to see a formerly 'independent spirit' accepte a role 'inside the box.' MIA has nothing to do with the Middle East so using a font that's meant to look like Arabic for her single and filling her video with galabeya clad Arabs is weird. Arab appropriation aside her latest video was filmed in Morrocco and directed by Romain Gavras , who you may recognize from the even cooler video for MIA's Born Free . I tweeted earlier that the best parody of MIA is MIA herself, and that makes it hard to take her seriously, but not hard to be entertained. Bad Girls is a banger in spite of itself.
