Micachu and The Shapes sind am 30. Mai an der Bad Bonn Kilbi zu sehen. Das Album "Jewellery" [...]

British musician Mica Levi, known by her nom de guerre "Micachu," recently released her debut album, Jewellery , in the UK and though the young artist has yet to make a splash across seas the record just might be the force that propels her and her backing band, the Shapes, onto U.S. airwaves. Jewellery was produced by avant garde electronic musician Matthew Herbert, and while it has enough hooks to be mainstream, it also packs in enough weirdness to get some play at your art school friend's next studio party. The balance is a rare find: complicated [...]
Micachu & The Shapes is a three-piece band from across the Atlantic, led by 21-year old Mica Levi. Their debut album ' Jewellery ' is an unusual, fearlessly experimental record that blends an array of influences to end up sounding like nothing anything else I have heard. Beggars says "Micachu uses a modified guitar played with a hammer action called a 'chu' and a bowed instrument fashioned from a CD rack. She also uses improvised instruments, such as glass bottles or a vacuum cleaner." The Micachu & The Shapes album just came [...]
Micachu--just sound that out like the Pokémon of a similar name--is the moniker of UK noisenik Mica Levi. With enough prepared instruments to man an avant-garde orchestra, she's like a modern-day Luigi Russolo , but with a much stronger pop sensibility. Rather than using her knack for different sounds to create an unbearable onslaught of unidentifiable noises, Mica crafts a really unique brand of sound-driven new wave pop. It's a bit Devo; it's a bit Tom Waits; there's some Beck in there; and Björk fans will probably be going insane, too. Micachu & the Shapes' [...]
The All England Club Monthly Missive is contributor Miguel Banuelos ' monthly column. Yes, it is time for another AEC Monthly Missive. There are some very exciting things coming up in the next few weeks - March 2009 is bringing some great things from across the pond, so let's get down to business. Who : Micachu & the Shapes Location : London, UK elbo.ws Ranking : N/A (as of yesterday) Thoughts : Followers of the super blog known as MBV may have noticed a bit of a trend running through most of yesterday's posts as the individual bloggers behind the site each did their best to hype up Micachu, her band the Shapes, and their new album Jewellery . After seeing that out pouring of love from some well respected peers I had to check [...]

Micachu & The Shapes "Calculator" Micachu's music tends to be rough and jumpy, but her voice is cool and calm, providing a smooth center for arrangements that tend to emphasize odd textural contrasts and jagged edges. This isn't to say that she seems aloof or distant. More often than not, her vocals come across as polite but informal, and rather intimate in the context of production values that can err on the side of sounding like inspired demos sprung fully formed from her unconscious mind. "Calculator," one of the most immediately ingratiating and pop-oriented tracks on her [...]

I first heard "Lips," by the British act Micachu and the Shapes , on the fine blog MBV last month, and in the weeks since its 80-second length has kicked around my head over and over. It's a jagged little slice of Brit-punk, with Micachu chanting over some instruments that sound like they're barely plugged in so the strumming and banging on them achieves the maximum percussive effect, and the way it ends so abruptly only makes me want to listen to the whole thing one more time. S I N S/ / LIVE: Late of The Pier//Micachu and the Shapes --@Brighton Concorde--18/02/09 words: Jamie Milton When you approach a packed-to-the-brim, intimate venue that consists of a couple of hundred people, average age about 16, with an energetic, obnoxious, fire-starting band as the headline act, there's little more to expect than a broken toe. Naturally, that's how I exited the concorde. Maybe extra padding would have helped, or maybe one should have just avoided getting in [...]

It's been seven hours and fifteen days since we last mentioned Micachu or We Have Band or both together. We go out every night, sleep all day, do whatever we want, see whomever we chose, eat in fancy restaurants. Yep, our life is pretty sweet. But let's talk about them again, because they rule. Mica's Jewelry is one of the best new albums of the young year and here WHB have taken time out from taking over Kitsune to take apart her new single.

You might've seen them ( we definitely did ) at CMJ this year, even though they don't look old enough to get in to a club. The front woman and namesake is Mica Levi, better known (along with her newly formed band) as Micachu and The Shapes , and the band's debut album is set for release in February on Matthew Herbert's Accidental Records . The music is a mix of grime mixtape, hip-hop, house, drum and bass, pop, synth and a lot of little pitstops in [...]
