10. Dan Deacon Bromst ; Prior to my first listen I was a bit apprehensive about Dan Deacon's sophomore album. Would the man be able to capture magic in a bottle again? Or was he just a one trick pony that would burn out after one great album? Personally I would have been fine if we were left with Spiderman of the Rings as his great living testament, but Dan Deacon went out and recorded an album with a 15-piece band and blew away all of our expectations. Bromst is much more [...]
Have you heard of Micachu ? I'm pretty sure it's not a Pokemon (is it?), but it's on my Favorite music list. Here she is with her band Micachu and the Shapes with the music video "Golden Phone". This is indeed pretty cute. Listen: Micachu & The Shapes - Golden Phone [YSI] Download

What Exactly? Techno flavour of the moment, Joe And Will Ask? is right now on the top of my playlist and it should be on yours as well. If you like Popof 's style, then you'll love them. Mostly, they do edgy techno with heavy basslines and euphoric synths designed to get you in the right state of mind on your next Friday night. These guys have been around for a while now, a coupla parties and [...]

If you haven't picked up Micachu and The Shapes' Jewellery album yet I highly recommend it. They've just released a video for perhaps my favorite track off the album "Golden Phone". It features the best choreography you'll ever see...and of course...some shapes. mp3: Micachu and The Shapes - Golden Phone mp3: Micachu and The Shapes - Lips (We Have Band Remix) ____________________ Listen to more Micachu and the Shapes on: The Hype Machine | Elbows [...]

Micachu , the 21-year-old songwriter/producer, Mica Levi and her fellow band members Raisa Khan (keyboards) and Marc Pell (drums), got some rave reviews out of SXSW this year. Their debut album 'Jewellery' was released a couple months ago via Rough Trade records and has been leaving muddy little footprints all over the inter-webs lately. So the past couple of years, I've done a mid-year checkup on what my favorite albums of the year thus far are. This year, I'm instead of an outright list, I've decided to highlight some albums I've really dug this year that seemed to have flown somewhat under the radar. Bands like Animal Collective, Grizzly Bear, and Wavves are considered underground to the general public…I think those of us who scour blogs tend to forget this reality from time to time…but have all the aforementioned bands have garnered a mass of opinions from the (ugh…here it is…) blogosphere, [...]

Allo ? Oui ?! Vous êtes ouvert ? Toute la nuit mademoiselle ! Micachu & The Shapes Golden Phone (2009) L'étonnant album de l'anglaise Mica Levi accompagnée par ses amis The Shapes est produit par Matthew Herbert et porte le brillant nom de Jewellery . Bijou !
by charles poladian All quiet as June makes its debut. The summer promises numerous highlights including festivals, free movies, free music, and great shows. Maybe you are going to see Phish this week, maybe you are catching one of five Art Brut shows at Mercury Lounge , maybe you are catching Nine Inch Nails and Jane's Addiction. This week promises a lot, so let's get the Reel started. [...]

I love it when music surprises me. In an era where most bands are just retreads of other bands, Micachu delivers honest-to-goodness original music. The best point of reference I can give for their debut album Jewellery is The Unicorns, solely on the facet that made both groups so enjoyable: quirkiness. These are what I've decided are the stages of enjoying Jewellery . 1. Pique Of Interest On first listen, it's hard to fully take in what you're hearing. There's a lot of random noise, but [...]

We've been quite absent these past few months, but I'm feeling some greatness coming along just in time for summer. What inspired this first post in months? What's my new obsession? MICACHU AND THE SHAPES. This brand new trio from East London is all about glitchy beats and quirky colliding melodic lines that seem like they are pasted together messily with a hot glue gun. I know you remember arts and crafts in 2nd grade. The band's head, Micachu (Mika Levi), composes these [...]
Mica Levi's project has released a video for the track 'Golden Phone'. The band members seem unsure on how to act in the video and try to do the best they can. They try to mime the song and choreograph a dance number but it doesn't seem to come together. You can watch the... Click the link to read more
Micachu and The Shapes release music video for their song Golden Phone. Watch it now.

MIcachu is 21-year-old Mica Levy and her band is the Shapes. So named because they have geometric figures on their shirts maybe, but maybe more for the fractured blocks of pop-tics turned inside out and flush against each other in their music's skewed minimalism. The British trio turned in our favorite set by a newcomer at this year's SXSW ; they've also turned in one of 2009's best debut albums in Jewellery . It's all good enough that I went to see them again at the tiny Williamsburg listening room Death By Audio the night after we returned [...]
Mica Levi's musical alter ego Micachu has produced one of my favorite albums of the year, Jewellery , and "Golden Phone" exemplifies why: On the surface, it's a slightly off-kilter pop song, but dive a little deeper and you'll pick out small details-warped synthesizers, hand claps, rudimentary attempts at beatboxing. The video's a pretty lo-fi affair as well, with Micachu and her two bandmates in the Shapes playing with the notion of "professionalism" and having an even more fast-and-loose attitude toward the notion of coordinated dance moves. aktualne.cz I only came to the Manic Street Preachers with their 1994 breakout album Everything Must Go and thus missed the Richey Edwards years, only discovering the music and the legend retrospectively. And while I could submit the Manics v2.0 as having superior pop songs and Nicky Wire as a worthy lyricist with moments of brilliance, if a devout Edwards acolyte were to claim that with their original songwriter's disappearance, the band had lost a crucial, ineffable creative fire that all the chart-toppers in the world couldn't compensate for, [...]
