Not strictly speaking a remix; a cover version. This is a cover of the lauded Mazzy Star track Fade Into You . Everyone seems to lose reason over Hope Sandoval but the original leaves me cold. This version is therefore a welcome change of direction. Barcelona's Buffetlibre replaces the slide guitar with some lovely piano and Hope gets done over by the deepness of Micah P Hinson's vocal. A welcome change of direction for the track - as welcome as that male cover of Madge's Beautiful Stranger from a few years back. [...]
Fade into You is an unabashedly grandiose song. Laden with soulful organ, thudding kicks and a simple but stirring piano chord progression one would not be surprised to hear Moby write a similar song. In other hands it could sound clumsy but Buffetlibre manages to exercise an appropriate level of restraint where others might cheapen a good song with gospel choirs, key changes and soaring crescendos. Micah P Hinson's gravelly voice grounds the song and gives it a human warmth and though his voice may crackle or fade wearily into the mix it serves to remind us [...]

Tracklist: [...]
Micah P. Hinson - Can’t help falling in love (Elvis Presley cover)

Cruelty, like every other vice, requires no motive outside of itself; it only requires opportunity. - George Eliot Fingerbanger 1 : Micah P Hinson - Watchman, Tell Us Of The Night (don lowed) -- Fingerbanger 2 : Telepathe - The Alps (don lowed) -- Fingerbanger 3 : Ian Brown - Dolphins Were Monkeys (Unkle Mix) (don lowed) -- Fingerbanger 4 : Tame Impala - Solitude Is Bliss (don [...]
The Revival Hour are John-Mark Lapham (from the Texan branch of the Earlies - god we miss the Earlies!) and DM Stith, who has recorded with Micah P Hinson and put out his own album (which is well worth tracking, by all accounts). The Revival Hour released a very fine single last year, the richly dramatic 'Hold Back', and they're going to be releasing an EP called 'Clusterchord' on Antiphon on the 5th November. 'Pyre' is taken from this EP and suggests it will be a beautiful, unsettling piece of work. Stith's voice is unearthly and the music [...]

words & photos by Dominick Mastrangelo The Twilight Sad @ Music Hall of Williamsburg The Twilight Sad shrugged off a crazy week to deliver a blistering performance to open their US tour at the Music Hall of Williamsburg on 2/25. The band saw the first two shows of their tour in D.C. and Philadelphia cancelled due to visa issues that had the Scottish rockers venturing all the way to Paris to secure passage to [...]

Last Thursday night (3/8/12) I saw a trio of enjoyable acts at The Independent . It's always nice to go in looking forward to the headliner and being pleasantly surprised by the opening acts. This was the case last Thursday. Micah P. Hinson kicked off the night. I missed most of his set, but I enjoyed the three songs I did catch. I would never have expected an Americana singer-songwriter to be opening for The Twilight Sad, but I appreciated the melancholy and irony of his work. Up [...]

With VISA issues out of the way, Scottish band The Twilight Sad finally made it to The Echo. Opener Micah P. Hinson was a pleasant surprise. He thought no one was there to hear his Americana sound. He was indeed wrong. The Texan artist tried to hurry off the stage when his time was up, but members of The Twilight Sad urged him to continue much to the delight of the crowd. It was now a little late but perfect timing for The Twilight Sad. Although its heavy, dark and very loud sound could fill a larger venue, [...]

Well, it's a vulgar headline, but you know I will. No-one wants to be that stupid prick at the world's busiest music festival with not a fucking soul at his fucking picnic. So honestly, please come! In all honesty, I think you'll struggle to find a finer lineup for an afternoon's entertainment. Blitzen Trapper are headlining. Mute's Big Deal are playing too, who I discovered courtesy of the brilliant PAWS covering one of their songs for our June split 123. Jonathan Meiburg from Shearwater will be playing a stripped back set with an electric guitar and a backing [...]

Happy weekend, guys and dolls! I know it's cold and gloomy outside, but you can't celebrate the fourth annual Windy City Winter Ball without a little snow/sleet/freezing rain. And you definitely couldn't ask for better weather for when Scotland's the Twilight Sad ride a wave of depression into town. Hike up those snow boots and let's get going. FRIDAY THE TWILIGHT SAD You'll be hard-pressed to find a [...]

PHEW! Thank fuck that's (more or less) over. This year has been a bit full-on, I have to confess, but the bulk of the hard work now seems more or less over. Our last release (Lil Daggers) came out last week, and our label Christmas Party is now done and dusted which leaves me a relatively comfortable run into the Christmas period from now on, which is some for which I am quite grateful. Nevertheless, The Leg album, the Jesus H. Foxx album and the second album by Yusuf Azak are all on the menu for early next [...]

Man, last night was nice. Really, really nice. Even though we had to do a big shop at the supermarket so we can feed my bloody mother when she visits this weekend, and even though we spent ages emptying our overflowing recycling bins. Even though Mrs. Toad spent a long time on the phone counselling one of her best friends. It was nice, because after all this, we opened a bottle of wine and sat in the living room, played records and just chattered about fuck all for about three hours. Mrs. Toad is away a [...]

Last week, the UK's Larmer Tree Gardens hosted a hilariously deep bill for the End Of The Road Festival, a lineup that featured Joanna Newsom, Kurt Vile, Tinawiren, Lykke Li, Best Coast, the Walkmen and dozens of other notables. Elena Morelli was there to magnificently document the epic lineup. There's a peacock in one of her shots. You should find it.
Today Barry-Sean and I head off, pop up tents in tow, to the marvellous End of the Road festival in lovely Dorset. Once again sold out, last year's inaugural trip turned into the best festival visit we've ever had, and we're looking forward to more of the same over the next few days. Even the weather forecast is good! Once again we have a huge number of superb bands scheduled to play and to follow our free Truck Festival Mix (RiP) and our Wilderness Festival Mix , here's the third and final instalment - [...]

The thing I hate the most about Satnavs is that although they do find wherever it is you're going, but you tend to have absolutely no idea how you got there. So you are no less lost, in a sense, you just happen to be in the right place. Well, I am getting a bit like that with my calendar. I write so much in my calendar that I tend to assume I put everything in it, which I don't. The only problem with this is that I make no effort to memorise appointments or events anymore, assuming [...]
Video: Vimeo - YouTube . Photos: Flickr . Free mp3 downloads: zip file (right click - save as). We actually recorded this Toad Session in the Queen Charlotte Rooms in Leith before the Song, by Toad Christmas Party back in December. Partly this was because it seemed like a fun thing to do, and partly because swapping our traditional and rather overpowering turquoise backdrop for their Christmas lights and tinsel. Also, we had six different [...]
