According to Mice Parade this is "the best album (they've) made in years". A pretty bold statement to make but after six previous albums Adam Pierce and co. must know what sounds good. A week ago we got asked if we wanted to do a review for Mice Parade's new album Candela (out on FatCat). I wasn't at first sure how to do this. I don't usually write reviews, and at my best I find it hard to describe the [...]

After a slight release-date stutter, April 1st finally signals the day that Candela, the new, and seventh, album from Mice Parade is released here in the UK. We premiered the video for This River Has A Tide way back in December, and as you can tell from its glorious noise, Candela is another wondrous journey through highly infectious rhythms constantly shifting musical landscapes. To tie in with the albums release, a digital live [...]
The words Mice Parade are an anagram for Adam Pierce, the name of the long-running project's mingled conductor. Much like rearranging the letters in his name to create a new one, Pierce has been shuffling around multi-cultural instrumentation for 15 years under the Mice Parade banner, with a revolving cast of cohorts. On Candela , a name taken from a bar in Madrid known to be a flamenco guitar players' Mecca, Pierce's ability to parse elements from across the globe and seamlessly meld them in with his own experimental instincts shines bright. At first glance, [...]
Mice Parade , generally regarded as the solo project of New York’s Adam Pierce , is set to release his seventh studio album, Candela , March 11th on Fatcat Records. Recorded with carefully selected guest musicians in Pierce’s home studio, that has housed the likes of Animal Collective and Frightened Rabbit among others, Candela is a cultured, pop-driven journey through various global palettes and modern rock influences Pierce has studied over the years. The first single from the album is the trudging This [...]
Enjoy music videos from Mice Parade and their beautiful film for This River Has A Tide and London based folksinger Lucy Cait's strange and hypnotic Gabriel's Wharf , the title track from her debut EP. After taking a couple of years off to focus on other projects, Krist Krueger returns to the Southerly moniker and celebrates with a new single and video for Desolation Low . And last, but not least, we have Autumn Owls video for Great Atlantic Drift features Irish actress Elga [...]

The 10th studio album from Mice Parade, an indie/shoegaze group out of New York City, Candela puts together an impressive survey of pop and vocal genres. The project of frontman Adam Pierce, Mice Parade is known for the wide array of musical styles from which their influences are drawn. Their songs are often downbeat, cerebral explorations, but their music is also not without a sense of fun. The words "mice parade," for example, are an anagram of Adam Pierce's name. From the first track on the album, "Listen Hear Glide Dear," Pierce's vocal prowess [...]
The seventh one's a charm. At least this is the case for veteran New York rockers Mice Parade. The band released its seventh album, Candela, via FatCat on January 29. Adam Pierce and the crew have aged like a fine wine. In the giving spirit (alcohol reference number two), Mice Parade has offered up "Contessa" [...]

Before I took over, per the norm, host Chef Stuarto brought me on air to discuss the coming show. He asked if there was a highlight track I wanted to talk about. The discussion centered around the first track I would play that evening - Jacco Gardner's "The Ballad of Little Jane", which I likened to a modern rendition of The Beattles' later-era. You can read more about my thoughts by clicking the link below. But really, one of the most notable, poignant tracks of the playlist is the [...]
New York post-rock band delivers songs full of sonic experimentation and pop craft. There's a palpable energy simmering under Candela, the new album by adventurous New York band Mice Parade. Listening to these songs, I could almost see multi-instrumentalist and band mastermind Adam Pierce smiling as he jumped from influence to influence, genre to genre, sometimes within the confines of a single song. In this sense, the album works a bit like Quentin Tarantino's films do. It's the creation of someone who's clearly in love with the act...

Beat Radio - Hurricanes XO [mp3] (from HARD TIMES, GO! , out Feb 19 th - pre-order on bandcamp ) Brian Sendrowitz (collaborating with drummer, Brian Ver Straten, and his wife, Liz) focuses on the travails of adult life and takes inspiration from Swedish pop star Robyn in rendering electro-pop songs as lushfully-layered, organic testimonies with honesty, yearning, and resolve . [...]
Adam Pierce and the rotating cast of characters that form Mice Parade have once again drawn from the well of their own disparate influences to color the latest batch of songs under that long standing moniker. Pulling in snatches of samba, folk, and traditional indie rock, the band plows through a far ranging set of sounds in an only moderately successful bid to join them together into some sort of interconnected musical union. But unlike on previous Mice Parade records, such as 2010’s What It Means To Be Left-Handed and 2004’s Obrigado Saudade , the band seems [...]

Though a coincidence - a tour date in Columbus a day after their 7th album is released - you can pretend like Mice Parade's show at The Tree Bar on Wednesday night is a CD release party. Candela 's a great late-night listen - layers of sounds filling each song leading some to label Mice Parade as a shoegazer band. The hypnotic sway of the first single, "This River Has a Tide", doesn't prove contrary to this idea. [...]

Sin Fang – Young Boys [mp3] (from Flowers , out Feb 19 th on Morr Music ) The third album from Icelander Sindri Már Sigfússon offers transfixing psych-pop that is elegantly constructed from layers of chaotic noise and tantric melodies. Sindri explains the records genesis: "I was thinking a lot about pre-teenage and teenage feelings. The exaggerated feelings and dramatic thoughts that most teenagers go through: Love and rejection, the constant ups and downs...I thought Flowers was a good name for that theme as they are used [...]
