25a. Sondre Lerche and the Faces Down Quartet - Duper Sessions I was somewhat surprised when I first learned about this album. Sondre doing jazz wasn't too surprising, since his style fits it nicely, but I had no idea he'd been working with a quartet for his next album. The results were even better than I imagined and, while it's more downtempo than his usual songs, the temporary switch in style was an enjoyable change for us long time Sondre fans mp3: [...]

Michael Zapruder 's album came to me quite a while back, and I did give it a listen, finding some of the songs to be stunning right off the bat. But somehow my plans to post about it got lost along the way. Now, I've got to thank my new mp3 player for rekindling interest in Zapruder's music. The album (Zapruder's second solo effort) is titled, New Ways Of Letting Go [August 15, 2006] , on Howell's Transmitter . The Rain Of Frogs are described as a collective on his homepage and the [...]
Some bits and bobs, a meat and kidney pie and bob's your uncle. It's like the British speak a different language, in'nt? I will most likely spare you my blinding wit and instead point you to some cool as shit: A very cool video of South San Gabriel playing in an elevator. Be patient the download is a bit slow but it's coming from like Bangladesh or at least New Zealand and that's so very far away. They play 2 songs in an elevator while confused folk come and go. It's neat. [...]

I think one of the things that gets lost in the shuffle sometimes on indie-centric blogs like this one is pure delicate songwriting. I tend to appreciate the sound and energy of a young indie band more than how a song was put together and structured. Thats why, when I first heard Michael Zapruders Rain of Frogs I thought it too laid back for my tastes. However, Im here today to admit defeat. The laid back, ethereal and well constructed sounds of the upcoming album, "New Ways of Letting Go" is just what the [...]
I told my internet people here in Seattle to turn it off August 1st. While I'm still prepared to wake up tomorrow without internet, I'm keeping in mind I told them to turn my cable off July 1st and they didn't get around to it until July 10th or so. For now I'll post this as my farewell post until I get back home, with a post from an internet cafe every now and then. Death From Above 1979 - [...]

"Having a substance should not be considered a crime, because so far it's victimless. If you want to talk about distributing substances that are lethal, yeah, that oughta be brought up, but then, let's be serious. Tobacco is far ahead of anything else. Alcohol is second. Hard drugs are way down the bottom, and furthermore most drug use, though it's very harmful for the person, has very little social effect. The crime associated with hard drugs is mostly a consequence of criminalization. [Q: so should we go after the people who make cigarettes?] If the principle is, let's not get [...]

Top two things that catch my attention most when listening to new bands: intelligent lyrics and unique instrumentation. While watching a two hour marathon of Seinfeld last night, I also sifted through the blogs seeing what's new. I eventually found myself at Scatterbrain, a fine blog indeed, and saw Matt raving about a new promo he'd just gotten in the mail. That promo was New Ways of Letting Go, the upcoming album from Michael Zepruder's Rain of Frogs. Well now, I thought, that name sounds a whole lot like Andrew Bird's Bowl of [...]

Download: Michael Zapruder's Rain of Frogs -- "Haymaker Market" MP3 Download: Michael Zapruder's Rain of Frogs -- "Shepherd's Purse" MP3 Michael Zapruder 's complex and emotionally-resonant songs are already causing a stir. The hype is really starting to build on this stuff, both online and in the print media, and it's all completely appropriate. Known as the Rain of Frogs (as in Michael Zapruder's), this unlikely collection of the Bay Area's finest includes Nate Query from the Decemberists, Jonathan Segal [...]
Michael Zapruder's Rain of Frogs - "Butterfield's and Baker's" Abraham Zapruder shot JFK with his video camera, and Michael Zapruder - probably Abraham's grandson - shot me with a gun until I died. Not literally, of course. No, I'm still alive physically, but I'm dead emotionally. And I've been that way ever since the younger Zapruder shot me with his gun. Though, it's not so much that he shot me with his gun, but that he shocked me with his gun, and that by "gun" I mean the quality of his songs. I should probably also mention at this point [...]
