The SOTD is "Coffee and Cigarettes" by Michelle Feathersone. Released in May of 2006 on the Fallen Down album. This singer/songwriter has had her songs featured on every major U.S. network. I recently heard this song on an episode of One Tree Hill. Featherstone's beautiful somewhat melancholy voice sings to just a piano about giving bad habits and realizing the habit she has to quit is her boyfriend. At first, Ho-Ho-Tel seems like any other singer-songwriter showcase. There are lots of girls wearing flannel and guys in women's jeans, but what's surprising, and wonderful, about this night is the level of talent exhibited onstage.

As season 5 ends, Lucas Scott (Chad Michael Murray) is sitting in the airport, he picks up his phone, and says "I have two tickets to Vegas, do you want to get married?" Three girls; Lindsey (Michaela McManus), Brooke (Sophia Bush), and Peyton (Hilarie Burton) all say hello and then the screen fades to black. I figure I'll find out what happens the next day. However, instead of going to season 6, SoapNet goes back to season 1, leaving me hanging. I know you're probably shaking your head, or thinking I'm a big fan of candleabras, but we all [...]

Today is the 10th anniversary of the Columbine shootings. I was curious to see if there were any tribute-style YouTube clips about the event, since it did take place before the advent of widespread online video. Surprisingly, there are quite a few; more surprisingly, most are not altogether different from the graduation montages I looked at a little while back. Both are sort of sad, wistful, and nostalgic, and accompanied by very similar tunes-but instead of fun in the sun, you get pictures of horror and loss and death. But then they take an odd turn. Let's take [...]
The term singer-songwriter has acquired a bad reputation, unjustly so. As I've said before, the genre is in its best state since the days of Joni Mitchell and her contemporaries. The critics, it seems, seem to conflate the rich diversity of artists thus categorised with a glut of performers who have found mainstream success, but who are not actually representatives of the genre. They are not

Today is Duke Jr.'s 2nd birthday . I have a few songs that kind of sum up two years with him, plus a mini-mix of sleepy tunes. Blind Boys of Alabama ~ Born In Bethlehem Bethlehem, PA and in a hospital, not a stable. Detroit ~ Crash Landing While on the go, he has been known to fall down a from time to time. Soundgarden ~ Spoonman There was a time when wooden spoons were his favorite toys. [...]

Sometimes the music finds me and other times, I find the music. Michelle Featherstone happens to be a case of the latter. I came across one of Featherstone's tracks and immediately knew she was someone I needed to share. Apparently I'm not the only one impressed by her work. Ms. Featherstone's music has been featured on several television shows including, One Tree Hill , Alias , Smallville and Summerlands, [...]
