As founding member of the '80s LA punk group The Gun Club, Jeffrey Lee Pierce helped inspired the likes of Jack White, Henry Rollins, No Age, and countless others. In 1996, Pierce died from a brain hemorrhage at the age of 37, and has since been honored with an all-star covers compilation, entitled The Jeffrey Lee Pierce Sessions Project . Volume one in the series, We Are Only Riders , was released in 2009. As TwentyFourBit points out, volume two, The Journey Is Long , will arrive March 30th via Glitterhouse Records. Spanning some 18 tracks, this latest compilation [...]

It finally happened. Winter arrived. Snow fell and we woke up this past Sunday with about three inches of the stuff. I'm glad it didn't arrive earlier, as Friday saw me at KSVR for a four hour stint of music. The first two hours flirted with folk music and the latter half was full-on garage rock, garage pop and psychedelic pop. Much of the 10 to midnight show came courtesy Finest Kiss , who posted some great 2011 lists. Taking [...]

Critically acclaimed AMC's Breaking Bad is a gripping drama following the life of Walter White (Bryan Cranston), an overqualified high school chemistry teacher turned meth cook. When stricken with terminal lung cancer and in search of a way to make sure his family will be financially secure without him, he turns to his former student Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) to enter a new business of cooking the highest quality meth around. Not only is Breaking Bad brimming with what could be considered as some of TV's best acting, it is accompanied by a top-notch soundtrack that wraps [...]

As if Let England Shake weren't a record momentous and spellbinding enough already, by the time the impatiently aroused bugle fanfare of The Glorious Land harnesses Jean-Marc Butty's gallivanting, expressive rhythms every last scarcely visible hair on the back of the neck stands to attention, wavering in startled chill. It's palpably warm within the Royal Albert Hall, yet the songsmithery of great British heroine PJ Harvey is intensely bone-shuddering, her latest compositions as comfortable in its vast, annular expanse as antique tat on a dusty, burnt-out fireplace. There may be no "stinking alleys" in [...]
Feeling slightly better this morning (my fever broke in the middle of the night, which is always a weird feeling - waking up in a pool of your own sweat but cooler and somewhat relieved) I donned my Sunday Best and drove out to Topanga State Park for my dear friends Fawn and Brian's wedding. [...]
It would have been nice (considering the seriousness with which I took this morning's half-marathon) if I had the opportunity to run 13.1 miles on good rest. Alas, this was not the case. I received only 3 hours of sleep last night, and when my alarm sounded at 6am I was finally starting to drift [...]
Sometimes I like to pamper myself. Well, not really. Last night I cross-trained with Adam doing 5 circuits of 150 steps and a bunch of ballistic exercises mixed with pushups. It totally destroyed my lower body, so much so that I was barely able to complete this morning's scheduled 6-mile run. So once I made [...]

Mick Harvey broke from the Bad Seeds back in 2009. Bad Seeds being the group famed for backing Nick Cave. With exception to a light project here and there, this is really the first we've heard from Harvey. Sketches From The Book Of The Dead is his first stab at strolling down his own path, and it's one that should not be ignored. Mick Harvey's new album follows an interesting path. The openers are stark folk-tinged pieces that echo of modern underground greats like [...]
Here's a look at the things I couldn't deal with during this crazy-busy week: Mick Harvey, Sketches from the Book Of The Dead This is the new solo album from the multi-instrumentalist and original Bad Seed. Harvey may not have the vocal presence of his pal Nick Cave, but the morbid songs, expert arrangements, and overall moodiness demonstrate why Harvey was the go-to guy in that group. Those

News Bits: Tom Waits, Mick Harvey, More Tom Waits gave us a glimpse into his forthcoming studio album today via the above photo of some new (awesome) lyrics drawn on a chalkboard next to his vocal microphone. Mick Harvey spoke to Drowned in Sound for a revealing interview, in which he offers a few clues regarding his split with Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds , working with PJ Harvey on Let England Shake [...]
Mick Harvey 's name might not be immediately recognizable, but it does carry plenty of pedigree. Dating back to their childhood, Harvey and Nick Cave (yes, that Nick Cave) have been in bands together, from The Birthday Party to The Bad Seeds. Harvey may have split from the Seeds in 2009 after a rumored strain in his relationship with Cave, but that doesn't mean his creativity was relegated to that collaboration. In fact, Harvey has released two albums of Serge Gainsbourg covers, written soundtracks, and worked with PJ Harvey (no relation). Sketches From the Book of the Dead , [...]

By all rights, Mick Harvey 's first album since leaving the Bad Seeds deserves to be a big deal. This is, after all, the man responsible for the juddering mechanics that cushions 'The Mercy Seat' and the clanging midnight movie nightmare of 'Red Right Hand': the beds on which Nick Cave's most twisted rhymes restlessly writhe. Yet, Mick Harvey remains a relatively minor name, content to stay in the background, be it filling in for the briefly-reformed Triffids, or his higher profile work on PJ Harvey's indescribably great Let England Shake - that's [...]
Filed under: News , Exclusive , New Releases Frazer Harrison, Getty Images After drawing the curtains on 20 years in Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds , you'd think Mick Harvey would be ready to seize the spotlight. But even with a brilliant new solo album, 'Sketches From the Book of the Dead,' out this week and racking up positive reviews, Harvey's not making any promises of floods of material -- he's not even [...]

A short, yet powerful list this week with many artists you've most likely seen on our site before. Let's skip right to it... Fleet Foxes are out this week with their album Helplessness Blues . Despite the album's leak over a month ago, all press for the album has been well-received and even Fleet Foxes admit on their Twitter page that they are glad everyone has been enjoying it. I don't think these guys will have any trouble selling out their upcoming tour. MUF has already given Helplessness [...]
