JANUS - singer David Scotney, guitarist Mike Tyranski, bassist Alan Quitman and drummer Johnny Salazar - experienced great success with their 2009 debut album, Red Right Return, but the band's new album, NOX AERIS, reveals how far they've come. That musical revelation is the self-produced NOX AERIS, which drops March 27 on REALID Records (through Warner Music Group's Independent Label Group). The first single, "Stains," is already getting spins at WIIL (Chicago), KPNT (St. Louis), WBUZ (Nashville), WJJO (Madison), WWBN ...

By Michel R Dussack AWOLNATION played to a nearly sold out crowd at Webster Hall in New York City, and proved to everyone there that they're constantly improving as a live band, even in the short amount of time from their sold out show at Bowery Ballroom this past July. It's a true testament to the bands incredible amount of talent when I say that I actually enjoyed them more in the nearly three times as large venue,...

While Middle Class Rut 's "Busy Bein' Born" is not what you'd normally expect from a band featured on Given and Taken in Ink , I was actually quite taken with this genre several years ago. I've heard the band mentioned as part of a "90s comback," and although it's true that 2011 seems to mark the reintroduction of sounds we last heard in the 90s (and thank God we're moving away from that silly 80s fascination!), Middle Class Rut does not sound like a 90s band. Rather, "Busy Bein' Born" strikes me as the continuation of a [...]

Reader John Schwarz alerted us to the existence of the Epicenter Festival, and if you told me that the show's bookers designed it specifically to make sure that no one from MetalSucks attended, well, I'd believe it. Look at this shitfest: There are a handful of insanely popular, maddeningly terrible modern rock acts not on [...]

That quote was tweeted by Jamie Walton this afternoon and it's basically the reason why I didn't skip last week's chart. I believe in this podcast and I'm going to persist, even if it means publishing a countdown super late. By the by, Jamie Walton is the founder of The Wayne Foundation , whose aim is to "provide women who have fallen victim to commercial sexual exploitation and domestic trafficking with a means of leaving the sex industry for good....by providing individuals with a safe home environment that will empower them with the tools they will need [...]
Kind of like how on the Contrast Podcast, I feel like I should change the name of my blog to "Without Any Further Ado" because I say it so much! My wife even gives me grief when she hears me recoding an intro and then I start thinking about it and then i can't HELP but say it. Am I making ANY sense?! :) Countdown #49 ***Featuring*** The Black Keys Cage the Elephant The Cure Foo Fighters Foster the People Linkin Park Middle Class Rut Mumford & Sons Rise Against [...]
I swear I'm getting caught up and will start doing these during the week again. Maybe. I don't know. It kind of works to do it on a day when I'm not falling over tired. It's a work in progress, you know? Countdown #48 ***Featuring*** The Black Keys Cage the Elephant Foo Fighters Foster the People Middle Class Rut Mumford & Sons Rise Against Young the Giant

Ah, the Warped Tour. One of the last remaining bastions of a punk-rock tour in the U.S. Even though I've never heard of most of the bands that are playing the festival this year and the tour tends to cater to a much younger crowd (i.e. 12-16 years old, it seems), Warped is still an American institution that should be attended at least once. That being said, the main acts for this, the 17th annual Warped Tour, include the following bands: 3OH!3, A Day To Remember, The Devil Wears Prada, Against Me!, August Burns Red, [...]
