Upon hearing the first note of "Easy Way Out", the lead track to Austin's Midnight Ghost, the guitar playing somewhat reminded me a little of Real Estate and on the next few tracks "Time" and "Shone" a little bit Akron/Family with the vocal harmonies. The six track record can be streamed [...]

Thomas Ellington, otherwise known as Midnight Ghost is releasing his debut album on bandcamp for just $2 (which is a steal). From the opening jam Easy Way Out all the way to closing jump-around Pineapple Sunglasses this six track CD is solid. I was surprised at how versatile the album is, taking you through some dreamier beach rock tunes, to some more introspective pop stuff. In any regard it's well worth your time. Pick up these two songs below, then go buy Monument . • • • • • • • [...]

words: Jamie Milton Black Lips, Harlem and other Deep South American acts (to generalise a little) like their whiskey dry and their music raw; Midnight Ghost are no exception. There's a calculated, woozy raucousness defining the bulk of their debut album ' Monument '. Out of what's below, we'd seriously recommend you at least catch glimpses of the smooth and abstract piece ' Shone ' and the uniquely anthemic 'We Have To See '. This is staggering, drunken and for those very reasons, absolutely brilliant. [...]
