Let's do the 2009 "Cool People Who've Died" list real quick: Bea Arthur. DJ AM. Michael Jackson. John Hughes. Walter Cronkite. Dash Snow. Jim Carroll. Karl Malden. Fred Travalena. Billy Mays. Farrah Fawcett. Ed McMahon. David Carradine. Jay Bennett. Dom DeLuise. Marilyn Chambers. And it goes on. Mary from Peter, Paul, and Mary died yesterday. And of course, Patrick Swayze. While everybody jokes about how bad it sucks to be a celebrity this year, I'm choosing to celebrate. Because if nothing else, 2009 has completely legitimized my otherwise irrational fear of success. I feel I should fess up: for all my YO HEREZ THE NU CLUBB HOTNESS shit I talk up here, I can't stand clubbing. I love dance music, concerts, breasts, and casual drug use, but for some unfortunate reason the sum total of these interests is a night of privileged LES night children putting shit up their noses and strutting their plumes. Or I don't know the cool places to go or whatever. Clubs are overpriced and full of sex offenders. And I can get into some house music, but that new Calvin Harris album is ludicrously cheesy. [...]

I'm calling for a ceasefire from all "Paper Planes" haters. MIA's dark horse smash was played out for a time, no doubt- but like low key indie dance singles that unexpectedly blew up before (I'm looking at you, Bloc Party) it's worth remembering that these tracks got big for a reason and GODAMMIT IT'S IN THE NEW MICHAEL MOORE TRAILER , NEVERMIND. I sat and had a little talk with myself today in the form of "Hey Chicky, just because you're swamped with jewelry stuff and trying to get a job so you can get alcohol down your throat doesn't mean that the music world stops revolving." Then I checked my dramatic annie email and have just spent the better part of an hour wading through press releases. So this bunch o' stuff is your lead-in to the fabulous weekend of St. Patty's Day drinking. I don't care that it's "officially" next Tuesday, I'll be drinking all weekend like the good Irish [...]

It's been one of those nights, in which, I re-fall in love with songs I haven't listened to in, at the very elast, a couple of months or so. Earlier it was Portishead's Glory Box . One of THE sexiest tracks you could prob break a bone or two off too! Yeah, I went there. And then, like the little nerd girl I am, anxiously sat down to watch the finale of America's Best Dance Crew. Don't judge. The final two crews danced together to a megamix [...]
The same day that The Four Tops' "I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch)" hit number one in 1965, Columbia Records, the Tops' former label, re-released "Ain't That Love" in an effort to ride Motown's coattails to the top of the charts. Naturally, Berry Gordy was furious. Reaching out to the songwriting crew Holland-Dozier-Holland, Berry decreed that a new Four Tops single was to be released in one day's time. Their solution: reversing "I Can't Help Myself" with the same chord progressions in tact. By the time evening fell, the Tops had recorded the track. By 3pm [...]
OK... so it's been a while since our last post. We haven't given up on the blog or the great music out there; we just wanted to pay respect to our close friend, Robbie (whose favorite time of year was October/November). To ease back into things, I'm going to post a simple mix of mashups. But don't worry, I have a lot of built up inventory in the queue. Enjoy! ABX - If I Could Rock (It Would Feel Like This).mp3 Basement Jaxx vs. Sly & the Family [...]
Whoa, Mighty Mike 's re-up of the best "okay with breaking up" ballad ever is almost as rock and roll as Faith No More's earnest cover with the video where they're all up in unconvincing drag. Almost. Mighty Mike "Not Easy Yet" (Commodores vs. Klaxons)
I like mashups as much as the next guy, but I thought I had heard "Young Folks" enough times to think there wasn't much more that could be done with the track. I am glad to be able...
