L.A.'s MIGHTY SIX NINETY first came to my attention in February of 2006 with the song "Have You Ever Asked Yourself." I loved the damn thing -- played it over and over and over -- never really tired of it. The fact that it sounded exactly like THE SMITHS didn't faze me in the least. It took a couple of years, but Mighty Six Ninety finally released a full-length album -- CHEERS TO THE BITTER END [...]
I have a busy day ahead of me and my hurting back is killing me. Perhaps it's just my body sending me a friendly reminder that I'm only a few days away from turning 39? Despite being busy I'm not going to leave you completely empty handed, so here are two cool dancefloor filling remixes done by Californian DJ Jeff Barringer (actually I've posted both of them before, but don't tell anyone - ok?). + Cause and Effect - Into the Light (DJ Jeff Barringer & J-Star [...]

American band Mighty Six Ninety took a swing at world domination through an UK label and missed. They moved back to California, with a few hard lessons learned and plenty of inspiration for new material. Cheers to the Bitter End is a mix of modern day Britpop and new wave (Echo & The Bunnymen, The Smiths). It is a "It's my party and I'll cry if want too" kinda record. It sounds cheerful enough, but the lyrics are full of Weltschmertz . Dance music for people who like to think about things. [...]

The Echo - The Happy Hollows [MP3] The Happy Hollows - Monster Room I DJed at The Happy Hollows show last night with The Henry Clay People , The Soft Hands , and The Billionaires . The lineup was simply stellar. The Soft Hands and [...]

"There's no reason for all of this..." I was worried for awhile that we lost Mighty Six Ninety to the UK. The band, who signed with London's Kids Records, is now back in action in the States. Their debut full length, Cheers to the Bitter End , has just been released via Invisible DJ Records. I've been championing M690 for awhile. In fact, they were one of my first features. The jangly acoustics and new-wave proclivities call to mind favorites [...]

Mighty Six Ninety is a familiar phrase to many people in Southern California. It is the name of a border-blasting AM radio station in the Tijuana area of Baja California, Mexico that was one of the most popular top 40 stations in the San Diego area in the 1980s. The Mightly 690 was an inspiration to many aspiring musicians at the time, including Rich Michalowski who grew up in a rural area outside of San Diego. The radio station was Michalowski's first taste of commercial pop music. He used to listen to the radio station and started [...]

The new single from Swedish band Irene called Little Things (That Tear Us Apart) is available from the Labrador webpage . Described as " Bob Dylan on a Surpremes diet "! 2 minutes long (or short) and very catchy! + Little Things (That Tear Us Apart) Last weekend Danish band The New Brand [...]

It is now official - at least according to British radio station Planet Rock - that Pink Floyd 's epic Comfortably Numb has the best guitar solo ever! The listeners of the station were asked to name the best guitar solos, and the Floydians came out as a worthy winner... not that I didn't know that before. No use to discuss the meanings of such lists however. Here's the top 10: 01. Pink [...]

Tras este extraño nombre se esconde un grupo bastante interesante formado en Los Ãngeles en el año 2003 por Richard Gardner y Jeremy Castillo.
