When the Weeknd and Frank Ocean were getting famous and reaping tons of critical love last year, a small but vocal cabal of R&B-friendly critics carped that the indie rock writers of the world, people who historically haven't cared much about R&B, were getting sucked in by showy art-school affectations, and that there were plenty of people already working within the major-label system who were doing great work to far less acclaim. Pretty much all these writers mentioned Miguel, an L.A.-born singer and songwriter who scored a few minor hits in 2010, as an example of the sort of artist [...]

Perhaps it's because we don't have the luxury to live in New York on a steady diet of Hot 97, but when it comes to Fat Joe , we always seem to forget that he's a rapper who rap things until he drops a new record or pops up on some remix, then we're re-reminded of his existence, and kinda-sorta taken aback that, "yes, he's still around doing this" all over again. Anyways, dude's on the verge of releasing his eleventh (!!!) solo effort, a project which has already scored an urban radio winner with the 253rd [...]
The picture above surfaced a few weeks ago on Twitter, and we finally get to hear the product of that studio session. Titled "Pride N Joy," the Fat Joe single is a nice midtempo that is perfect for the upcoming summer months. Get into "Pride N Joy" below: Fat Joe - Pride N Joy MP3: Fat Joe - Pride N Joy ft. Kanye West, Miguel, Jadakiss, Mos Def, DJ Khaled, Roscoe Dash & Busta Rhymes |

Fat Joe hits Funk Flex to debut his newest Kanye produced track, Pride N Joy . The track enlist every artist know to man, Jada, Mos Def, Khaled, Roscoe Dash, Miguel and Busta. Surprisingly the song is not 10 minutes long even with this amount of artists. Check it out below.
So we heard about Fat Joe being in the studio Kanye West, and now that hang out session has materialized into an actual track. Featuring Miguel on auto-tuned vocals, Kanye and Fat Joe trade bars on this piano-driven smooth jam. No word on where this sucker will eventually land, but it is nice to hear Fat Joe making tolerable music. Flex bombs! [ via ]

The third volume in Miguel's free Art Dealer Chic series is the weakest so far. The third volume in Miguel's free Art Dealer Chic series is the weakest of the bunch. Volume 2, the high point of the set, was alternately sexy and self-critical, punishing and seductive, but the third entry doesn't have the same sense of flair or variation. "Ooh Ah" works the heavy guitars and lusty angle that were effective in earlier songs from the series like "Arch N Point". But here, it's all thuds and no pay...

Last week Miguel put out a blank collab track on his Art Dealer Chic Series Vol 2 EP . Mazon got ahold of it and decided to put his finishing touch on it. Dopeness to say the least. Check it out.

Miguel completes the last installment of his Art Dealer Chic series with Vol. 3, if you're counting like we are, that's nine tracks we've heard in total of a very solid project and some of the best experimental R&B this year. While the rising singer-songwriter still has plans on releasing an official full length album later this year, we still applaud the time and effort of giving us free tuneage to hold us over until that moment arrives. Grab in its entirety below. Miguel - Art Dealer Chic Vol. 3 [...]

The saying sadly goes that "All good things must come to an end", and as much as we yearned for Migue l's experimental Y3K-soul-themed freebie series Art Dealer Chic to be the exception to the rule, the set has alas come to a close with yesterday's arrival of the third and final volume , another three-track thrill to further strengthen the notion of the singer/ songwriter/ producer being the R&B artist to beat in 2012. Opening cut "Party Life" helps conclude Chic on a celebratory note, with Miguel once again [...]

Miguel wraps up his fantastic Art Dealer Chic EP trilogy with a particularly rich installment — is it over already? The series, which has already given us some of the most fascinating experimental R&B of the year so far, concludes with a trio of songs that showcase Miguel's talent for blending the past and the future — and just maybe a signal that he knows that he's been slept on while emerging stars like The Weeknd and Frank Ocean [...]

By now, if you've neglected to check out the first two installments of Miguel 's Art Dealer Chic EP series you have surely missed out on some good free music. Fret not, for that is why the late pass was invented (links for the previous volumes are posted below). As expected, for the third consecutive month Miguel delivers yet another gem in the form of another three track EP. [...]
