Many writers more erudite than me have explored the ways that technology and the internet have altered the consumption of music. But I think we can all agree there is simply no way of keeping up with the tsunami of tunes. If a song doesn't hook a little after one play then it's lost at sea. That's if it gets played all the way through. I heard the guy who made the Wonderbra advert talking on the radio a few weeks ago. Trevor Beattie was announcing the death of the 30 second TV advert , [...]

Out of all the artists associated with Odd Future, Mike G is the most underrated. He doesn't spit much but when he does you take notice. When he isn't rhyming he's producing some quality Chop N Screwed mixtapes. His flow at times can almost rival Earl, switching between rhyming patterns on the same track is impressive. While the only disappointing thing about this release is that this is merely a collection of tracks. Yes, some are new but he majority were recorded between 2010-2012. If you're looking for the best of Mike G, then look no further. The Standout tracks are: Los Angeles, You're [...]

Somewhat-overlooked Odd Future member Mike G has remained relatively quiet since last fall, when he dropped a few tracks as part of a weekly series. But he's likely been working on something new-at least, I hope so, as I've been a fan of his since the jump. And until we hear that, the Houston rap-loving MC has shared a new mixtape, Verses Vol. 1 , that compiles all the guest verses he's spit over the past year or so. For those unaware, he hopped on tracks and delivered smoked-out bars alongside Speak! , Charli XCX , [...]

The west coast is in this b*tch. Producer Caleb Stone is here today with some newness in the form of 20132s first monster Cali posse-cut "SAVION GLOVER". The track features a number of up and comers in Cali's vibrant scene including Alexander Spit, Cashius Green, Speak! & OFWGKTA's Mike G.

As a huge fan of posse cuts—yeah, I know, I've said it before—I was excited at the prospect of premiering this new one hosted by producer Caleb Stone . On "Savion Glover", Stone provides the snappy, booming backdrop for the rhymes of West Coast rappers Alexander Spit , Cashius Green , Speak! , and Mike G . You really can't go wrong with that lineup or the beat, which samples the tap dancer of its namesake. I wanna ball like a young Paul Wall, indeed. You can download/stream the track below. It was [...]

Click here to view the video on YouTube . I got the opportunity to redeem myself when I reviewed The Figgs Anthology a few weeks ago, in this interview Mike Gent rightfully calls me out for not covering the Figgs previous releases. He opens up about working with Mike Viola (The Candy Butchers) and Jed Parish (The Gravel Pit).
Like everything else in the Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All realm 'The OF Tape Vol. 2' is misleading from the get go. Despite its sequel suggesting title and budget album cover this the Los Angeles shock-rap crew's first proper full release since they got signed. It's true that 'Channel: ORANGE' deservedly got a lot of attention [...] The post Cougar Microbes Top Albums of 2012: Odd Future - The OF Tape Vol. 2 appeared first on Cougar Microbes .
The holidays are upon us and as a gift to NYC, EARMILK , Cool Records , Mad Decent , and The Interstellar Pig have teamed up to give you this carefully constructed dance party lineup. We figured that since the world is on its way out, you might as well log one or two last noteworthy experiences before we all meet our catastrophic demise. Interstellar Pig is a relatively-new-yet-renowned artist management/event production brain child based [...]
I typically hate when rappers do the whole weekly release thing, but Mike G 's series is an exception for me. Why? Because I feel like dude's one of the more interesting members of Odd Future, if only because he's never really relied on anything but his music to make a mark. To be fair, said mark hasn't really been made yet, but it's my opinion that he's on his way. Proving exactly that point is the new self-produced track, "Playboy (Jack Frost)", which boasts an icy beat and his trademark laid-back rhymes. Give it a listen below.

Odd Future's Mike G is a divisive internet figure, not without his haters. "Seasons Change," produced by Syd Tha Kyd and featuring Speak! is his latest release, as he gears up for Award Tour . King Mike G has promised to drop new music every Monday as part of #MikeGMondays (remember Screwed Up Saturdays ?). Look for new Mike G next Monday and stay tuned for Award Tour coming to your speakerboxxx soon. MP3: Mike G - "Seasons Change" ft. Speak! (prod. Syd Tha Kyd) [...]
Mike G might rep the West Coast as part of Odd Future , but his style is indebted to Houston hip-hop, namely that made by UGK and the late DJ Screw. As such, it's not surprising to hear the drank-influenced artwork and sound on his latest single, "Seasons". The track features guest vocals from Speak! and a smooth, synth-laden beat from Frisco (aka Syd the Kyd). Check it out below.

The homie Mike G has his new EP out on Sydney Label Inna Riddim. Ballroom/Footwork is the order of the day! Pretty fresh stuff. I like it a lot yeah! Mike G - The Shore EP Check out the mix Mike did for the blog if you haven't already. Big BIG TINGS! ...

I'm going on the self indulgent tip this Mixtape Mondays and blogging one of my own tapes. I put this mix up a few days ago and it's basically me going on a club tangent. It touches on House, Techno, Uk Bass and a bunch of other easter eggs you will have to listen to find. In a way you could consider this my coming home mix. After living in Chile for close to a year, i'm around 2 weeks i'm heading back home to Sydney and i'm hyped to catch up with fam and friends, eat some good food, [...]
