I always love talking about local bands. On today's agenda: Old And Gray, the solo project of Mike Hale. If you're one to check out talented Bay Area bands you'll probably know him as the drummer of Room For A Ghost or the singer of Phantom Float . Lately I've been listening to his latest album, Souls Worth Saving . The album delivers the kind of raw synth sounds and heavy drum machine beats that you would expect to hear from a Nine Inch Nails track. It's only three songs long, but reinforces the old saying of [...]

Wow. How is it possible that there was this much good music released in 2009? I've been frantically trying to play catch up throughout the Fall and have just been overwhelmed. Even so, this list was relatively easy to compile. It's made up of 30% what you might call punk albums, 32% what could loosely be classified as some type of Americana or alt-country, 10% are of the heavier variety, and the remaining 28% are all over the place. Additionally, the overwhelming majority of albums on my list were released by independent labels (41) but I [...]
There is an awful lot of free music out there for those that have the inclination to look. That's not to say it's all good, or even the good outweighs the bad, but here are a few that we've come across recently, and think you might want to check out too.Jeremy Steding has two free albums of retro-country that call to mind Merle Haggard or Marty Robbins with some rhythms that call to mind the late

Mike Hale's excellent solo release Lives Like Mine is the perfect example of an album that I passed on for way too long. Hale is the frontman for In The Red and was formerly in the great Gainesville punk band Gunmoll, this album was released by the wonderful folks at Suburban Home, and was (gasp!) made available as a free download. Tell me how I missed the boat on this for so long? I dunno. But now that I've found Lives Like Mine all I can say is [...]
(Joel's note: I'll be posting these in sections as I get them, which is just now, so we're starting at the first of the tour and we'll work our way up to the present...) JULY 31st - INDIANAPOLIS Two Cow has been touring for seven years and not once in that time have we ever traveled with a trailer. We've debated it to the point of exhaustion and I personally have railed against it. Up until this point I have won out, maybe because I do most of the driving, or maybe [...]

Next month a good chunk of the Suburban Home roster is gonna convene upon Denver for a weekend of music, BBQ, garage sales and plenty of drinking. Having mostly recovered from my revelry up in Minneapolis and still being pretty bitter about Two Cow Garage not coming to the Tampa Bay area, I'm doing what any other stupid fuck with no money and less sense does: I'm quoting Tim Barry, saying "fuck tomorrow and fuck all the yesterday's" and flying to Denver. Yup, good ol' Autopsy IV is gonna exchange flat Florida's heat for Denver's elevation [...]

You can even see a signature on the guitar if you look close enough. Mike has recently decided to devote his life [...]
