Since MCA passed away on May 4th, Mike D. and Ad-rock have done very limited speaking on the death of their friend and bandmate in the Beastie Boys. Both Mike and Ad-rock released short statements a few days after MCA's death, but have not spoken in detail or given any interviews. Today, RollingStone posted a preview of their forthcoming issue, which features MCA on the cover and a feature story celebrating his life and contribution to music. RollingStone also posted interviews with both Mike D. and Ad-rock in which the two surviving Beastie Boys talk about [...]

The Go-Go band, Trouble Funk, filed a lawsuit against the Beastie Boys for copyright infringement the day before Yauch's passing. It takes a cold-hearted bastard to continue suing a dead man, his grieving band mates and former label over a few samples from albums made in 1985 and '89. TufAmerica, the firm representing Trouble Funk, alleges

Since Friday, musicians, celebrities, writers, fans, you name it, from all over the country have tweeted, written, and spoke about the passing of MCA and what he has meant to their lives. Two people that were quiet over the weekend were Ad-Rock and Mike D., MCA's fellow Beastie Boys and very dear friends. I can't begin to imagine what Ad-Rock and Mike D. are going through right now, and was not surprised that they chose to deal with MCA's passing in private. On Sunday night, Ad-Rock released a statement via BeastieBoys.com with his thoughts, and today Mike D. posted a [...]

Beastie Boys' Ad-Rock and Mike D have both issued statements regarding the tragic death of their longtime bandmate, Adam 'MCA' Yauch. On the band's website , Ad-Rock wrote, "As you can imagine, shit is just fkd up right now. Punk-angst with some of the best structured songs to come out of the 80's, Licensed To Ill is what happens when you take a visionary like Rick Rubin (hate him or love him, the man is still a genius) and put him in a room with three kids out of New York who were hungry, talented, and ready to make an artistic change.

Sloane Alabaster has sent us over a posthumous tribute in respect to Beastie Boys' MCA who passed away yesterday. It's a track he was working on for several years.. and is only until now, that unfortunately, he's decided to re-tweak it and resurface it. For all the decades of joy and work that the Beastie Boys as a bunch of three individuals have created.. Adam 'MCA' Yauch : R.I.P. SLOANE ALABASTER - Intergalacticus

In 2004, just a day after George W. Bush won re-election, the Beastie Boys hit Chicago alongside Talib Kweli in support of their '04 Hip Hop album, To The 5 Boroughs . At the time, I was 22 and teaching 2nd grade in Englewood on the southside of Chicago. I was also working at SoundSlam.com, where I would be able to ditch my teacher's uniform and interview artists like Common, Lupe Fiasco, Wyclef, Busta Rhymes, I even got to interview Tony Yayo (definitely a highlight). Since I started writing though, shit since I started listening to music, my goal [...]
I was greatly saddened to discover that legendary Beastie Boy and all round nice guy Adam Yauch, aka MCA, lost his fight to cancer yesterday. As a youngster I experienced a musical eureka moment when, on the back of that legendary 'Sabotage' video, I spent all my saved pocket money to buy not just on [...]

This one hurts to report. Adam Yauch , better known as MCA and a co-founder of groundbreaking New York hip-hop group The Beastie Boys, has died at the age of 48. In 2009, MCA announced he was being treated for a cancerous parotid gland and a lymph node. Since then he underwent surgery and radiation therapy. Yauch didn't appear when his group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April, and his health had reportedly delayed the trio's upcoming Hot Sauce Committee, Part 2 . Yauch was active in the movement to free Tibet [...]

The Stones Throw podcast series continues today with number 73, featuring Peanut Butter Wolf and Mike D of the Beastie Boys. After joining the rock-and-roll hall of fame, it was only right the prestigious label invited the hip-hop pioneer to spin some tracks, all of which are incredibly dope. The Light Sailer- London Philharmonic Orchestra & Wendy Carlos 2. [...]
