Friends are always surprised when I tell them that hip-hop actually began in Minnesota. And even more surprised when I tell that that's not true and I just made it up. One man very familiar with hip-hop's alleged birthplace is Land O' Lakes resident, Mike the 2600 King . Coming off the success of the first two Do It To It records, Mike just released his first solo EP "Ready to Rock" this month and its packed with banging funk jams. You can buy the digi-EP here . [...]
Spaced-Out Bass Odyssey promises to be a good time, if you can find it.
Hot damn hoe here we go again. It's getting really serious over at BRLSQOTHEQUE . The first Do It To It released had a bunch of turf shakers produced by the likes of Bird Peterson , Dave Nada and Cosmo Baker to name a few. If you haven't already, get it at the Burlesque store . The second volume, judging by the promo video, looks to [...]

I never got into the first Castlevania. Sorry. It just seemed fucking impossible. One skeleton hits you, you bounce into another and bam bam, you're dead. But Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest? That was my game. It was a new take, incorporating role playing elements and the option to explore the world as you liked as opposed to linear level based combat while retaining the dark and spooky atmosphere. Woah totally geeking out. Anyway, I always loved the soundtrack and obviously some other people did too. Castlevania [...]

After doing one of the tightest Mixin' It Ups in Discobelle history, Minneapolis own Mike The 2600 King brings us a sweet and smooth disco mix that pretty much saved us at work this week. Here's the lodown: "I recorded this mix of disco and related music in commemoration of the premier of Street Sounds Swirlin Through My Mind - a new dance night in Minneapolis focusing on classic dance music from the 1970s through early 1990s, focusing heavily on real disco and early Chicago house." [...]
