I know what you’re thinking and I do agree that this Brooklyn 5-piece sound a little like Coldplay. Not that that is a bad thing, there are a million other bands that Milagres could’ve sounded like and they may never have come across as accomplished as they do on ‘Here To Stay’. And much like the knack their British influences have this song packs a memorable chorus and a build that is pretty catchy in its own right. It’s taken from Milagres last album ‘Glowing Mouth’ which is instructive given the undeniable strength of Kyle Wilson’s vocals. KD [...]

photos by Amanda Hatfield San Francisco's gothy shoegaze queen Tamaryn just got back from a European tour and was nice enough to stop in NYC before heading home to play a show last night (2/21) at Music Hall of Williamsburg. Joining her were friends Azar Swan (who played a Tamaryn afterparty last year) and Milagres . Did you make it to this show? Both Tamaryn and Milagres say this was their last NYC show [...]
Watch Milagres new video for Glowing Mouth (and grab a free download of unreleased track Quiet Street ). We also have 80 seconds of tight, aggressive, garage punk from Canadian veterans The Steve Adamyk Band and in stark contrast, some heartfelt Americana from singer-songwriter Sarah Syms and her video for new single Dance On My Grave . Finally we have the video for Magician's Assistant and a free download of Pleasure Center - two tastes of Airstrip's hypnotic and dark "nightmare pop". Both come [...]

Iowa isn't a declaration of independence, no statement of rebellion, full of blighted triumphs. Like the rest of the American middle west, it is a profoundly liminal place, neither here nor there, a once proud frontier now tied to heavily subsidized monoculture farming or four decades of disappearing manufacture. Unless an avid reader of Kinsella's Field of Dreams , no American child fantasizes of growing up and moving to Iowa. Western Affairs , a dream pop band not from Iowa, address this sort of grinding sacrifice on their debut single that carries the name of [...]

Opening for New York's Milagres was a gracious Danish artist who plays under the moniker Indians . Without necessarily delving into the bizarre irony of a northern European playing in New York under the name Indians - he could have been Dutch and named his band Lenape Stuyvesant - suffice it to say Indians possesses great affection for New York City. His last song is explicitly about New York, he says, and he waxes philosophical about the city's charms two other times in between his pretty, looping keyboard creations. [...]

The latest from Berlin via DC Zulu Pearls , aka singer-songwriter Zach Van Hoozer, "No Heroes No Honeymoon" is a slow thumper that builds its sparse arrangement to some kind of crescendo. The track depends on Van Hoozer's gulping vocals to underpin the nearly dirge-like tempo. "No Heroes No Honeymoon" is the title track on Zulu Pearls' debut EP, out September 18 via Cantora Records . Zulu Pearls - No Heroes No Honeymoons by Sound it Out Zulu Pearls is opening [...]

Monday Music’s the one weekly post wherein Some Of It Was True! drops its London-only rule. Waskerley Way - Sista An electro shanty with one motherlicker of a build-up, Sista opens with some Underworld -esque revolving swishy noises before breaking into some 6/8 - a bit Leftfield (in both senses), and from there, it just intensifies to some brilliant electro noise. This geordie producer gets extra points for pioneering the feline-influenced genres 'meowgaze' and 'catwave'. Cracking. [...]

In a small series preluding the music session that goes from March 13-18, we'll be focusing in on some of the collective efforts of labels and PR companies collecting in Austin. We wish we could cover every group that is playing down there, but as Bandcamp states, there are over 400 artists going to be there.
