Originally posted, with slight modifications, in August 2009. Because it's one of my favorite sets...and because bloggers need vacations, too. We're in Truro for a short weekend, just like in 2009, in the same rented beachhouse high on the dunes above the Cape Cod sound. Wakeless trawlers and shore fishermen, beach wanderers and bathers are few and far between, mere specks on an otherwise natural landscape that fills the sense with color: green grasses, faded yellow sand, the variable [...]

Well, we're just about halfway with the reposts... Today, we feature volumes 9 and 10, which were originally posted in August 2009. Volume 10 holds a special place in this blog's history, because that's when Aaron from Tsururadio offered to post the mix on his blog. That started a bit of following and it has grown ever since. Aaron's moved onto Tsuruphoto, following his passion for photography. He now has a nudie-zine featuring some edgy but tasteful art, several videos to promote the zine and Tsuruphoto, and the occasional mixtape. We owe a big thanks for his early support, and [...]
You might know Van Pierszalowski from Port O' Brien , but he's beginning to make waves of his own under the name of WATERS . He's already tossed out one tune earlier this year, and now here comes another stunner from the songwriter, prepping for his debut, Out in the Light , which comes out via TBD Records on September 20th. His voice seems to waiver just the slightest bit, giving a hint of an edge to the gentle track that slowly begins [...]
Love was in the air December 8th at Glasslands in Brooklyn. A bunch of amazing bands came together to put on a tribute to the beautiful life of John Lennon, including Amazing Baby, Here We Go Magic, Nicole Atkins, Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson, Class Actress, Acrylics, Teen, The Royal Chains, Eytan & The Embassy, Bizi [...]

You've got to choose your battles. Some things (and people) just ain't worth the effort; sometimes it pays to play the long game; and at other times, shoot from the hip first, ask questions later (not recommended as a blanket approach though ...) It's been a tiring week, at the hands of the sprats plus one. The dog and I are still recovering. However, an interesting conversation this morning has given me great food for thought. Sometimes, just sometimes, great words come from unexpected quarters – and are all the more meaningful because of it. Don't [...]

We Are Trees Going into 2009's CMJ Festival , Surfer Blood, The xx and Warpaint were poised to be the breakout acts. In 2010, the field is wide open with over 1200 bands seeking approval from NYC audiences. Still, the bands that should generate the most attention are Lord Huron, We Are Trees, Cloud Nothings, Lower Dens, Wild Nothing, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr., Circle Pit, and Yuck. Out of that group, I expect Lord Huron, We Are Trees, and Lower Dens to come away with the most accolades of the festival. [...]

QRO Mag gave me the opportunity to go the Knitting Factory for a show in which the headliner was Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson. At first I was hesitant I had heard that during one of his sets at South by Southwest he had declared that his moniker of Miles Benjamin Anthony... Click the link to read more

It's been ninety-five days since the Haiti earthquake happened. And while some progress has been made there in the last few months, things are still really crappy. So if you care, and you can't afford to pull a Michelle Obama and fly down there to rebuild the country with your bare hands, we have a less drastic option for you. How about after you file your taxes at the last minute on Thursday, you come on out to Glasslands and rock out for a good cause! The suggested donation of $10 will go toward rebuilding the [...]
Last Friday night at Zebulon in Brooklyn, Robinson retired his name from the stage. Last night on Gossip Girl , young people broke up. "The Sound" was their separation's soundtrack. The universe knows what time it is, guys. Time

If the Saddle Creek Records gang knows one thing, it's how to spot a singer-songwriter who can successfully pull off folk rock. Oregonian Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson is in many ways the poster boy for the label's intimate rockers, but he's also a grand example of how an indie act can make accessible music that should be on your radio station. (Well, if anyone listened to the radio anymore, you'd hear him there.) On his sophomore release, Summer of Fear , Robinson doesn't flinch from the pressure of following up on his eponymous debut. From [...]

It's Tuesday, which kind of sucks because you can barely see Friday at this point. Yet tonight is a great night for live music in St. Louis. The problem is there are three great shows jammed into one Tuesday evening. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club will be playing The Pageant tonight, which will most assuredly kick your ass all over the place. At the same time The Cave Singers (pictured above) will be doing their thing over at [...]

Four long names, one man on stage. Preparing for SXSW, Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson took stage at the Black Cat in Washington DC. When I say Miles, however, I mean just Miles. He was on stage with just two guitars, a keyboard, and a music stand. The lone Oregon songwriter opened the show with a bare bones cover of Tom Petty's "Wild Flowers", which came off natural, given the similar vocal range of Robinson's to that of Petty's. Robinson's music, however, seemed highly synthesized, giving an atmosphere that was earlier flooded with fast paced bands a chance [...]

Frenchkiss Records have announced their latest signing, and it is the fantastic Brooklyn act, Suckers . The band will be releasing their first full-length record, Wild Smile , on the amazing indie label on June 8. In addition, Suckers are embarking on a monstrously long tour leading up to the album's release. They'll be hitting the road with the likes of Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson and Shilpa Ray and Her Happy Hookers (the three acts hit up Le Poisson Rouge tonight) as well as Local Natives , who they'll play two [...]

[mp3] Suckers: "Boys Who Rape (Should All Be Destroyed)" Raveonettes Cover Wow, how many times can you make three different publicists happy with one post? Maybe that says something about an album announcement. I had three different companies send me three different emails, all offering something unique having to do with the band Suckers . Even though I already liked them, and planned to announce this record, the tasteful onslaught of content made a post inevitable. Well done all parties involved; this is a thin line to walk, and usually more than [...]
