The "jitty-pop" of New York's own Milly Beau blessed us with two new tracks last month, and "Taylor" is being given to you for free. Get it via their bandcamp page . Milly Beau - "Taylor" " Tribute " along with "Taylor" from the band's upcoming self-titled, full-length LP, recorded over the past year. They've "matured in sound" from their debut release "Party Glitter," and have been receiving critical acclaim from the likes of Glamour, Blackbook Magazine, and Changeup Magazine, and are now showcasing [...]

My Milly Beau friends are fast gaining momentum and ready for the big time. Since I last updated you, the group has had a major makeover. While shoring up the band members, they added a pianist with a smoothy smooth voice who could probably go solo himself. Count that as a plus. They also just released their newest song, "Taylor" (which has been part of their live repertoire for quite some time), which shows a sharp departure from earlier material . The group has embraced their poppy jazz side, which will certainly benefit them in the long run. [...]

The online music publication QRO Magazine recently asked me to curate a mix of indie pop songs in the "Knox Road" mold for their "Thank You For Being A Friend Giveaway" . Essentially, we teamed up with 3 other super blogs - Cream Team , No Modest Bear , and Anti-Gravity Bunny - to make four respective mixes as one of the prize packs for participants. Originally, the giveaway was going to be exclusive to QRO, but they've given us the go ahead to provide you with our mix. Regular readers [...]

Visit Milly Beau on MySpace. Watch an acoustic performance of 'Mississippi' here. MP3: Milly Beau - Mississippi
One of my favorite new artists (as you well know ) Milly Beau, recently took to the Gibson Guitar Showcase in NYC to perform stripped down versions of several old and new songs, along with a cover of The Flaming Lips's "Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots". Below you'll find a video of the cover, as Doran's soulful, resonant vocals and Leeder's (recognize the name ?) soft acoustic strumming make for a chilling rendition. If you enjoy this video, I encourage you to check out the other live, acoustic Milly Beau videos - they're equally [...]

The time of physical release for Milly Beau's debut album, Party Glitter (a previous "new obsession" of mine), has finally arrived. Several physical copies will be available at The Mercury Lounge in NYC, where Milly Beau are holding their album release show, or you can purchase Party Glitter through Greenhouse Records . The album comes with quite the reputation recording-wise, as it was engineered and mixed by John Thayer (Exit Clov/Drunken Sufis) and Scott Norton (CoCo Rosie, Built to Spill) at both Stitch Studios and Headgear Studios (TV on the Radio, Yeah [...]

Sometimes it's hard to believe, but Exit Clov's been a band for 6.5 years. We've survived quite a lot together—relationships come and gone; broken down vans in Marshall, TX; 22-hour drives from Austin to DC; shady motels; and even the passing of loved ones. At the end of all of it, we're still making music together. As we've grown together, each of us has also started up other projects with friends involving art in many forms. We've all branched out beyond Exit Clov as musicians & songwriters, crafters, [...]

Hey guys, remember Milly Beau? No?? Well let me remind you from a previous post ... Milly Beau is fronted by the incredibly talented MaryBeth Doran, just a year removed from George Washington University in D.C. (loving this D.C. NYC connection.) Her voice is stunningly gorgeous; I can't describe it any other way (I'm telling you, I was blown away.) And while she could easily sit back and let her vocals do all the work with some simple songs, she mixes it up big time with Milly Beau, throwing listeners for a loop with an [...]

You may remember a few weeks back I interviewed KR friends Exit Clov in anticipation of their East Coast tour and some of their rockin' new music. They performed at Brooklyn's Public Assembly with a relatively unknown group called Milly Beau (recently signed to Greenhouse Records ). (I came in to the concert thinking Milly Beau was a person - really did not know much, nor did I expect much.) But boy, was I in for a huge surprise. Milly Beau, fronted by the incredibly talented MaryBeth Doran, just a year removed from George Washington University in [...]
