Lektroluv busting out the candy apples this Halloween with some confectionary goodies in the form of a remix package for the studded Belgium duo Sound of Stereo . With a canded enlistment of honeyed heavy hitters such as John Roman , Wax Motif & Neoteric , and TWR72 don't be afraid to admit you're spoiled at the end of the month. If you're still on that banger tip and crunchy sawtooths is what you crave, London's Loops of Fury has been banging on metal to treat you with some electro house leftovers. But the chewy caramel [...]

Over the years, music evolves and changes in a lot of ways. Unless you're solely looking at mainstream music, its evolved pretty dramatically... particularly in the last 3 years. But every time I hear someone refer to a band as 'emo' it still pisses me off. Mostly because it never bears any resemblance to bands who were initially labeled 'emo' during a time when there was no description for it. You see, back in the mid-to-late 90s when all rock was 'alternative', distinctions had to be made when a particular group of bands had a general sound that stood apart [...]
The year is 1984, the place, Orgreave, South Yorkshire, England. Truncheon wielding police on horseback clash with striking miners, as Margaret Thatcher's Conservative Party cracks down on the mighty National Union of Mineworkers. Ultimately the strike fails, the coal industry is dismantled, and ten people are killed. This is only part of the story behind The Miners' Hymns, Icelandic modern composer Johann Johannsson's soundtrack to Bill Morrison's film of the same name. The rest of the story? Start with Emile Zola's 1884 novel, "Germinal." Imagine the sweat soaked bodies of dust blackened girls and boys sliding through crumbling [...]

The Miners' Hymns , Jóhann Jóhannsson 's latest effort, is really one-third of a project which is international in its scope: the Icelandic composer and producer collaborated with US filmmaker Bill Morrison on the documentary of the same name which traces the social history of miners in the city of Durham, England. Before you can even begin to make assessments about the quality of the music, you have to make an assessment about what it is you're assessing: Is this a set of tracks to accompany the film, or does it stand alone? And should it? [...]

After their huge EP's like Hurricane/Helium/Zipper EP and their last remix for ZZT's hell of a track called Zzafrica, which was hmm ok, they deliver us an amazing quality release! It's the "Mineral" EP with three originals and one Dub mix. Proper techno! Massive bassline's pared with deep synth's and the feeling of a 902s rave! I really love the new EP! Check the preview and grab it! Releasedate is the 27th June on Lektroluv Records ! Enjoy! Tracklist: 1. Diamond 2. Quartz 3. Opal 4. Opal (Dub) [...]

Jóhann Jóhannsson's eight offering, The Miners' Hymns , is also his second consecutive soundtrack release, following up last year's success with his score for And In The Endless Pause There Came The Sound Of Bees . Jóhannsson's latest release was written and composed for Bill Morrisson's documentary of the same name about the old British mining industry, compiled from archival footage supplied by the British Film Institute and was recorded live in Durham Cathedral. Fan's of Jóhannsson's previous work will be familiar with his contemporary classical, yet, experimental style. His work, regardless [...]

"I'm still down there where the seams are deep Digging a hole, away in the coal, go down...go down" Ewan MacColl, The Big Hewer The opening of Jóhann Jóhannsson's latest album features the sound of a church organ playing huge, slow, mournful chords, rising in volume as if asking a question in increasing desperation. The call goes out into a huge and seemingly empty chamber, echoing and gradually falling away into a dark silence. After a few minutes, it finds an answer, a two note response from a [...]

JÓHANN JÓHANNSON TO RELEASE THE MINERS' HYMNS JUNE 7TH ON FATCAT RECORDS Icelandic composer/arranger/electronics- manipulator Jóhann Jóhannson's first release for FatCat, The Miners' Hymns, is the score to an exciting collaboration with filmmaker Bill Morrison (best known for his masterpiece Decasia, heralded by the Village Voice as "the most widely-acclaimed American avant-garde film of the fin-de-siecle"). Their film/music project treats the history of Northeast England's mining community using gorgeous found footage and a brass-based score, which moves from dark and brooding minimalism to moments of rousing transcendence. The Miners' Hymns album will be released in the U.S. on June [...]
One disc of chunky techno grooves, and one of ambient interpretations – out on May 16th…
You may know veteran Dutch tech-house DJ/producer Jeroen Verheij as Meng Syndicate, Grooveyard, Secret Cinema, or any of the other aliases he's employed in the course of delivering such tracks as "Timeless Altitude" and "Mary Go Wild," but in the latter guise, he's about to unveil an album of real rock music. Now, don't get your [...]

Definitely sensing some Fleet Foxes influence on this record. Those who are a fan of them should enjoy this song. Be sure to pick up the whole album, "Eleonore" if you do in fact like it.
