I am so terribly late to the Miner party – hell, I probably wasn't even invited. But, considering just how good this song is, I couldn't care less. They make songs that are awash with the sun soaked Pacific attitude that all too often calls from California. The group is out of LA and has been playing these songs for a while, but I don't see any reason why that can't be recycled for this summer season. The track has it's feet in roots music with blankets of banjos, pedal steel, and tambourine that begs for a sing-a-long. [...]

Building up the anticipation for their forthcoming record To Suzie , local country outfit Morning River Band have made lead single "Lefty's Last Blues" available for streaming. With sauntering, strummy acoustic guitars and twangy pedal steel guitars backing up some down-home, porch-swinging vocals, the initial summery sound of the track hides the seriousness of its message, namely the consequences of alcoholism. Morning River Band will release To Suzie on May 21st and will celebrate with a show at MilkBoy Philly on May 17th with John Train and The [...]

Words by Sammy Maine Over the past few months, it seems like we've been swimming in a sea of nostalgia. There's been an explosion of bands desperate to regain the 'guitar-glory days,' with overzealous nods to Brit-pop, shoegaze and the like. It's all very well but the influx of these bands has caused the genre to feel a little thin. Thankfully, Mazes are a band that have been able to keep afloat since their early singles and brilliant debut LP, ' A Thousand Heys ' (2011); an album full of lo-fi poppy offerings, their [...]

Alt-country from Philly band The Miners, their debut release is a six-song EP, recorded on 8-track ½” reel-to-reel tape at Match-up Zone Studio then digitally mixed and mastered at Philly’s Milkboy The Studio. The Miners - Miners' Rebellion Homepage Facebook Twitter Miners' Rebellion by The Miners
Filed under: 47 Second Review Amazon We all made mazes as kids -- we even enjoyed a few of them, walking through rows of corn on the first grade trip to the pumpkin patch. By the time you got back on the bus, the apples started falling in the orchard next door. Fall turned to summer in a blink. Did we leave the maze at the wrong spot? You got older without realizing it. Your sweaters [...]

Melbourne based producer eyeofzion has just put out his newest release, Minerals EP. The four tracks on the tape bubble with aqueous synths that are nestled alongside short snatches of clipped and warped vocal samples. While the drums, woozy and equable, provide the insular elements of the tracks a sense of propulsion. The whole EP is reminiscent of Baths instrumentals and you could easily imagine an Anticon artist rapping over something like this. The only negative I can find in the artist is his moniker "eyeofzion". It almost put me off listening to him altogether, which would have been [...]

When we introduced Miner back in August , we remarked on the band's joie de folk , as conveyed, especially, in the single "Hey Love." The new video captures that, with a few hallmark moments, as the band — the husband/wife team of Justin and Kate Miner, Justin's brother Jeremy Miner, cousin Amanda and friends Justin Krook and Dave Schechtman — frolic in sunny, sandy climes. Almost makes you wanna grab a banjo. ||| Live: Miner plays Thursday at the Echo along with the Dead Ships, Future Ghost and Blonde Summer.
Click here to view the embedded video. C heck out the video for Miner's track “Hey Love.” The single comes from the bedroom project of Justin Miner, formed with friends and family. Miner’s debut EP ‘Hey Love’ was recorded in a small bedroom in Silver Lake, CA. ”Hey Love,” is instantly catchy, joyful folksy track that jangles with banjos and warm harmonies. It’s bright and sunny, the choruses are energetic and so much fun to hear. They've got a show coming up at the Echo in LA where the EP [...]
